Double U-Turn Ahead
Last week was a tough one for Mike & Liz with them fighting as they came in last to the mat in Norway, but they were still racing and no one was eliminated... so we find out that they are heading to Milan, Italy.
Tara & Joey were the first team to the mat and she was so excited to be heading to Italy, she used to be posted there, she met her husband there and she even speaks a little Italian. Phil gives them a mobile phone to make their flight reservations on the Travelocity App and once they land in Milan they will have to make their way to the Piazza Fontana to get their next clue.
-Mike & Liz end up hugging it out, he realizes he's been a jackass and she apologized for telling it like it was (ha). They're back on track.
-Everyone is going to be on the same flight... and we find out that this Double U-Turn has been unanimously determined to be Operation: Take Out Vanck & Ashton, not only are they the most mismatched team, they are also the most disliked team. Scott tells us no only are they going to U-Turn Vanck & Ashton, they are going to blank out the second U-Turn so that they can't U-Turn anyone else.
Milan, Italy - they hit the ground running, literally. Tara & Joey are the first team to the Roadblock: Who's hungry for their next clue? Tara is going to do this one.
In this Roadblock, one team member had to ride Tram Ristorante ATMosfera, a dining tram which tours Downtown Milan, to find three marked words along the ride: Cernobbio, Concordia, and Lago. However, only four team members could ride the tram at one time. During the ride, they received a plate of gnocchi and parmigiana melanzane, which they had to finish, in order to complete the ride. At the end of the ride, they recited the three correct words to the tram conductor to receive their next clue. If they failed to say all three words, they had to perform the task again.
-Tara & Mike were the only two on the first tram out and they agreed to help each other find the words (the eating was up to them.)
-Next tram out had all the boys: Scott, Vanck, Floyd and Redmond... the eating, no problem, but the boys didn't get all the words... and poor Logan was left out in the cold, only 4 per tram, he was left waiting all alone.
-Tara & Mike got all the words correct and they got the clue to head for the dock at Lago and board the steam ship Concordia that will take them across Lake Como to Cernobbio.
-Logan was able then to get on the tram they got off and start his tour of the city.
-None of the guys got all the words correct from the second tram and they all had to go again (this is where eating two more plates of food would have been an issue for me anyway) Scott & Floyd were comparing their words when Vanck asked if they wanted to share and Scott made it very obvious that he was not included (aw, that was pretty mean.) Logan got four words, three were right but he ended up giving the judge the wrong third word and he also has to go again. (Oof, London was whining about why they were always last - and that is why - get it right the first time, sheesh.)
Concordia - Tara & Joey get on the boat and they get to choose a departure time for the next morning - staggered every 5 min. between 7am and 7:30am. Joey gets his chance to eat here as there is a gorgeous banquet spread out for them (Tara just had wine.)
-The rest of the teams all get to the steamship and are hanging out like there is not a scheme afoot... Vanck & Ashton have no idea they are having their last supper.
Next morning the boat docks and Tara & Joey are the first off - they have to go find the cluebox and U-Turn board first thing - they choose not to U-Turn anybody, I think because they still felt bad being the team that U-Turned Seth & Olive and sent them home, they are leaving the dirty work to someone else this time. They get the clue to the DETOUR: Make a Mold or Grab a Hold.
In Make a Mold, teams had to travel to Castello di Vezio and assemble a ghost figure by using a teammate as a wire mesh mold for plaster mold casting. After the plaster solidified to create the figure, they would be given the next clue.
In Grab a Hold, teams had to travel by taxi boat to the village of Menaggio and find L'Angolo Benedetto Castelli, where one team member would climb 90 feet (27 m) up the face of a rock to retrieve their next clue, while their partner belayed the line from the bottom. (Oh, we know what Becca & Floyd will be doing.)
-Tara & Joey decide to Make a Mold and head out in a taxi after pointing Mike & Liz to the U-turn and Cluebox and telling them they didn't U-Turn anybody. Well Mike is definitely using that U-Turn and he & Liz put up the U-Turn for Vanck & Ashton. They also choose to Grab a Hold with Liz climbing and Mike belaying for her... at least he doesn't start calling her a sewer rat again.
-Mike & Liz pay it forward by telling Becca & Floyd where the cluebox & U-Turn board are, and they also tell them to U-Turn them (Mike & Liz) to burn the second spot... which they totally do.
-Matt & Redmond are right behind them and both Becca & Floyd and Matt & Redmond are heading for the climbing (of course).
-Vanck & Ashton start their worst day by not being able to even find the cluebox & U-Turn board. Once they do find it though, they basically know it's game over... but they're going to push on through the day, it's not over until Phil tells you it's over.
Make a Mold - the ghost figure molds are kind of creepy actually (I do have a ghost thing though so maybe it's just me) - Tara is going to sit in the chicken wire mold while Joey puts the strips of gauze on to make the ghost figure... I think this could take a while, it's got to dry before they can move on.
Grab a Hold - Every team chose this task except for Tara & Joey, London & Logan (she'll do any artsy task) and of course Vanck & Ashton had to do both. And no one had a problem climbing the (let's be honest), relatively tame rock face,except for Brooke who is just ridiculous, she's constantly shrieking at Scott for him to tell her where her handholds are (just use your eyes!) and crying that she doesn't think he has her (how is this woman a lawyer, she seems to have no confidence in her abilities... but she does definitely like to hear herself talk.)
Matt & Redmond are the first team to get the clue to the PIT STOP - take a taxi boat to the village of Tremezzo to find their next Pit Stop along the shoreline at Teresio Olivelli Park. Becca & Floyd were right behind them.
Here's How They Finished:
1) Becca & Floyd - their boat docked better and they were able to pass the boys - they won a trip to Argentina.
2) Matt & Redmond - very close second place, they were disappointed not to get first - they are going to definitely get serious going forward.
3) Tara & Joey
4) Liz & Michael
5) Brooke & Scott - Phil asked about the collaboration between them to U-Turn one team only - Brooke said they have their favourites, people you like to sit and have dinner with - and Michael piped up that 'Vanck isn't one of them' - Brooke didn't say that, but she basically said, 'we don't like them so we got rid of them.'
6) London & Logan
7) Vanck & Ashton - **ELIMINATED** - They were proud that they were able to work together despite their differences and I think they were able to part amicably. So with Vanck & Ashton leaving that takes Hardeep G., Alexis G., Lynne B., and Trish J. out of the pool.
Next episode they are heading to Venice, Italy where there will be singing and Mike is grumpy pants when London & Logan don't help him.
