Survivor Second Chance - Sept 30/15 Episode Recap

Survivor MacGyver

Last week Survivor Second Chance started and it quickly proved to be Old School vs New School among the returning players - and it was the end of my game when Vytas was the first person voted out (boo for me, but I couldn't blame them, he was so sketchy.)

Ta Keo - Day 4
-This is the tribe that lost one of their members the night before and they know that Jeff Varner sided with the New School players, leaving Kelly Wiglesworth, Terry Deitz, and Woo kind of on the bottom.  Kelly's not very happy to be in that position already (at least buy her dinner first.)  Her alliance needs to get their butts in gear - Spencer & Shirin set the pace and if they don't start defending themselves, they'll be out of there.

-Meanwhile, New Kelley got herself a hidden idol at the challenge yesterday and she hasn't had a minute to herself to even unwrap the thing - she says she's going for wood and she/we get the first glimpse of her hidden idol, it's actually quite pretty, carved flowered cross with a blue tassel.  Kelley is just so excited to have this little bit of insurance, she wants to do everything she didn't get a chance to do the first time she played. She buries it, nowhere remarkable (I hope she'll remember where it is.)

-Once back at camp, Varner is talking to Spencer, Shirin and new Kelley - he wants to talk about who they are voting for next and they agree it should be one of the three (Terry, Kelly or Woo)... Varner says he hopes his voting with them proved he had some loyalty... but then he tells the camera his strategy in voting out Vytas was to wake up the Old Schoolers, get them playing this game, and hopefully set up getting rid of Shirin and Spencer because they are playing this game way too hard and they are already too cocky.

-Varner goes from that meeting to talking to Terry Dietz, he tells him that he didn't think it was time for Abi to go last night because Abi is easy, it can't just be a casual name in passing, that's too old school - this game is moving like lightening and all these threats have got to go.  Varner says if he is going to the end he wants it to be with y'all [the old schoolers] but you've got to wake up.  Terry hears him and says he wants to take out Spencer, and Jeff adds, or Shirin, they are
the engine running things at this point... then Jeff spins around, "I'm looking for a spy shack." (Ha, I'm loving me some Varner so far.)

Bayon - Day 4
-Joe decides to make some hammocks out of the fishing nets (I guess that's what he used) he had enough for four hammocks and they did not suck for those people using them.  Joe said last time he played he was the biggest threat no questions asked (uh... I wouldn't go that far) but this time he wants to be someone who provides a service, someone they want to have around.
-Steven is amazed by Joe, "he's Survivor MacGyver" always building things, going fishing... he's too much of a golden boy, beautiful threat.  Stephen says [Joes]'s great to have at the beginning, he'll provide food, build the shelter, win challenges... and then you slit his neck (as they show Stephen trying to open a coconut... he's not slitting anything - hahaha.)

Ta Keo - Day 4
Oh... Look at the monkey!  They have cute little golden monkeys that squeak in Cambodia... ugh, and deer that scream... not so cute.

-Spencer tries to reach out to Abi after she got four votes the night before, she says she's doing fine... but she tells the camera she's trying not to freak out like she would have when she played before, she's trying to be the Abi she wants to be...(yeah, she's a psychopath - she doesn't have real emotions, she's trying to project what people expect - I'd be afraid.)  And Spencer's no dummy, he knows Abi is a total drama queen, totally unpredictable.  The fact that he has to trust his game to someone like that is the scariest thing he's had to do out there.
-Spencer and Abi go over to talk to PG and he asks her how they made a fire chimney in China... while she starts to explain it, Abi, out of nowhere, asks her, "What's going on PG?" and PG was taken aback, "Uh, we're going to build a fire chimney... what are you talking about?"  Abi says she's just trying to further this friendship they have going... (what friendship? Yeah, she's going to kill you all in your sleep.)

-Varner, Woo and Terry are sharing a piece of fruit by the water and Abi says to Spencer, "Should I go down there and make them change their conversation?"  He urges her to do it... probably just to make her go away - but Spencer tells the camera that Abi is just there to start fights which is a cancer to a tribe (Oh, the cancer, I've always liked that trope) and definitely a cancer for an alliance.
-Varner sees her coming and they offered her some fruit but no, she just wants to be part of the talk - Varner tells the camera that Abi is their own little Brazilian Soap Opera and there are buttons they can push for varying levels of entertainment.  She says she wants to know what they were talking about and Terry just tells her there is stuff that she doesn't need to hear (he's having none of her shenanigans.)  Varner sees her as someone that everyone hates and therefore, someone he can beat - a tool he can use to win a million dollars. "This is delicious.  Who needs food when you have Abi."

Bayon - Day 5
-Andrew Savage is humble bragging about his perfect life and perfect wife and he gets choked up... (ugh, I'm sure he's genuine but it's day 5 and you're already crying about missing your wife... his beautiful, South African, model wife... give me a break.)  But he has all the women eating out of his hand - Even Kass is touched by his lovely story, saying last time the people she played with were horrible, some of these people are great and they make her a better person and player.
-Jeremy was also touched by Savage's story and true emotion about his wife but he had to take off on his own, he's trying to be all business out there, he doesn't want emotion about his wife to intrude.  He reveals to us that his wife is currently pregnant and he just wants to be there to see her stomach grow... but he's not telling anyone there about it, he knows he's a physical threat, and to add expectant father, no one will want to take him to the end. (Wow, he's going to try to control every last thing he can, that will make him burn out in this game.)

-Back at camp everyone starts to notice that Jeremy is gone and Stephen wonders if he's looking for an idol - Andrew notices that reaction, instead of thinking maybe Jeremy, who has a wife and kids, was affected by Andrew's amazing story, he's playing the game 24/7 with no emotion.  Andrew goes and tells Jeremy, to solidify that Fishbach is lacking all the things that mean anything to him; morals, values, loyalty, courage (because he didn't cry about your profound love for the most beautiful woman in the world? Give me a break.) But if Andrew has his way, Stephen's time out there is limited.

Ta Keo - Night 5
Shirin is talking to PG about Abi - how dealing with that level of crazy is so draining and PG jumps right on board loudly talking smack about Abi who, of course, over hears everything and comes over to confront them... well mostly PG because Shirin slunk away when the fireworks started.  Abi & PG finally have it out with PG saying Abi can't blame her for talking behind her back when Abi was the one bad mouthing her to everyone about the bracelet - Abi denies that she was bad mouthing her (I honestly think she doesn't realize that was what she was doing, in her mind she was giving her the benefit of the doubt by not screaming directly at her)... how can you really reason with someone who doesn't understand normal human interaction?
-They agree they got off on the wrong foot - but they are not going to be friends and PG goes back to the shelter to laugh with everyone about Abi.  Abi goes down to the beach to cry by herself, "I feel so alone." The scary thing she said was that she wanted to work with Shirin because she was so alone in her season, but she didn't have her back at all... Oh boy, sleep with one eye open.

-Terry couldn't stomach what he was seeing, yes, Abi is annoying, but for her people to be laughing at her while she's left floundering - that's just wrong. He goes to talk to her on the beach and they make a strategic connection. Almost despite himself, Terry's got his social game going.  Abi feels like Shirin especially doesn't have her back, he says Shirin and Spencer are out for themselves and if they go forward the old school way, he'll have her back. (Varner would be so proud.)

Ta Keo - Day 6
-Very early in the morning, Abi goes and talks to Varner on the beach and he asks if she had a good talk with Terry the night before - yes.  Jeff says Terry is such a nice man, he's thinking of aligning with him - she is too.  Jeff tells her he doesn't want her to go anywhere, he thinks she's fabulous - her little moments turn him on.  This is music to her ears!  She feels so good that someone actually wants to work with her and finds her... a joy. (Varner is just reeling her in, he's playing hard, but still being likable, that's a hard balance to strike.) And Abi is all in with Varner, Terry, Wiglesworth and Woo to vote out Spencer or Shirin at the next vote.  They'll be sorry.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
Bayan is pretty surprised to see it was Vytas voted out at the first tribal council.

The challenge - they will race across a series of A-frames while carrying coils or rope, they must use that rope to drag a heavy crate over a peaked track to the finish.  Two tribe members will then use the pieces inside the crate to solve a puzzle by putting the slats in a frame to complete a picture.  First tribe to finish wins immunity and reward of: a Survivor tool kit - hammer, axe, chisel, saw, bamboo nails and they'll have materials back at camp to improve their shelter.

Bayon chooses to sit Ciera for this challenge.

-Off they go - and they didn't mention that each A-frame gets higher as they go - most people could do the first one on their own but the next they needed some help - and they can't move on until everyone is over ... so the tribes are pretty much neck and neck through this section.  Though there were some pretty good falls, and some skin left on the course.
-They start pulling their crate along the course and here is where Bayon takes the lead.  Kimmy & Kass are working the puzzle pretty quickly but this is a hard one and pieces have to be shifted.  PG & New Kelley start on the puzzle for Ta Keo but Spencer taps in... then Shirin (she's horrible at puzzles, and she quickly starts freaking out when a piece gets stuck).  Joe and Jeremy tap in for Bayon, having studied the picture, they have an idea what needs to be done.  Spencer seems to have it figured out... and pieces are flying for both tribes... Ta Keo thinks they have it... but both figures are pointing the same way, they need to be opposite - Bayon thinks they have it... and they are right!  BAYON wins immunity again!
(Oh, there is Spencer's pissy face...)
-Varner says Spencer and Shirin had their fate in their own hands and they lost it... how poetic.

Ta Keo - Day 6
-They return to camp and Spencer is telling the camera he's so thankful to be in control of this game with Shirin.  His old Survivor experience of being on the bottom and suffering is gone, he is so glad to have someone he can actually play with. (Wow, way too early to be that cocky, especially when you're losing.)
-Varner is all about getting rid of the threats and he sees Spencer as a huge strategic threat, he's one of the smartest young men he's met, and then Shirin is all of that and she's emotional, she can talk to you like you're best friends, she's a salesperson.  He says they are two heads on one snake (ooh, another Survivor staple, the snake) it doesn't matter which one they chop off.
-Varner proposes voting Shirin or Spencer to Wiglesworth and PG - they're in - PG, would like to vote out Abi-Maria, but she'll go where the majority of the votes are, which seems to be everyone against Shirin & Spencer.

-Varner then goes and talks to New Kelley and she knows that the tribe is a mess and he tells her that Abi is totally loyal to Terry after Shirin didn't stand up for her last night and they are talking voting out Shirin so she better not go running and telling them.  Kelley says she won't - and tells the camera she's not really happy that things have shifted overnight and she has to go with the flow against her initial alliance.

-And... it's going to be Abi who screws everything up - we see Abi and Shirin walking (Oh no.)  Shirin is telling the camera she feels really good going forward, she's got everyone with her but she wants to check on Abi because she's been so all over the place... (why did Varner let this happen?  You have to watch Abi 24/7)  And here we go, Shirin tells Abi she's very sorry she didn't stand up for her last night and Abi says she's sorry too - who came to her when she needed it - Terry - Terry did.  Shirin says she's still loyal, what more does she want.  Kelley's on board, Varner's on board... and Abi says, "They want to vote you and Spencer out." (Oh Sweet JEBUS!)  Shirin asks, kind of shocked, "Are we still in this together?" And Abi laughs at her, "Not my style."  (Oh my Godipus! She's a menace.)

-So now Shirin is running to Spencer to tell him they're screwed - Abi and Varner are voting with Old School.  Spencer is now in self preservation mode, just tying to make it three more days.
-First stop for Shirin and Spencer is Woo, and she, with tears in her eyes, is trying to lay out how his alliance will vote him out when they get to the merge because he's too much of a threat.  Woo is no dummy - he tells her point blank, this is the first time they've even deigned to talk to him and they are asking for a vote? "Absolutely not." (Exactly.)
-Spencer can't believe his second chance is turning out exactly like his first one did - (it appears Spencer and Shirin are too smart for their own good - maybe actually getting to know people before trying to manipulate the game on day one would serve you better.) But he's all choked up too - he and Shirin were enjoying playing together and it looks like they may have to vote for each other in order to try and save their own skins.

TRIBAL COUNCIL
-Varner says the vibe of the tribe is exhausted - today really sucked a lot out of them, it was a rough challenge.
-Spencer says they start playing with some kind of amnesia about how hard it is until they are out there again and realize it's going to kick your @ss. (Whatever, get to the good stuff.)
-Shirin doesn't remember the first time being awesome, she had a really rough time the first time around and she's starting to have a rough time again the second time around.
Jeff, already? Tell me about that (he's trying to Barbara Walters her.)
-Shirin - yeah, already - there was some fighting and some people lost  some trust in me and I think I'm on the bottom so I hope I can fight my way back into the game. (Ugh, so vague, I guess it's too soon for her to want to mix it up.)
-Jeff asks New Kelley what she's talking about and she tells him there was a disagreement between Abi and PG - that's what she's talking about.
-Jeff asks Abi what happened - she says she overheard Shirin and PG talking about her and she felt betrayed because they were in an alliance.  She feels very gracious towards Terry, he was the only one who rescued her when she was feeling very lonely and thought she would be voted out unanimously.
-Jeff points out to Shirin that what Abi just said about Terry was almost verbatim what Shirin said about Mike in her season.
-She says she realizes that, she should have been there for her and gone to her right away to fix it.  She didn't... and the game changes very quickly. (You were basking in the glow of being with the in crowd and it bit you in the butt.)
-Terry agrees, he and Abi just made a connection, it wasn't hardcore strategy, it was just about building a relationship and a lot of good things came of it - to the point where he doesn't think he's on the bottom anymore.
-Spencer -agrees that Shirin, and himself, are on the bottom - mostly because of talking too much strategy and not getting to know all these people.
-Varner confirms that they have narrowed it down to Shirin or Spencer going tonight.  Spencer knows, and he makes his little speech, naming off each person by name, he says if he is there tomorrow, he's going to focus on building relationships and getting to know them instead of trying to strategize and make alliances.
-Jeff points out that Spencer and Shirin seem to be having the same problems they had in their first time around, and he asks Shirin what she thinks about that?
-Shirin says change is hard and it doesn't happen overnight.  She knows if she goes home tonight, that's on her, she did that.  But if she gets to stay, that'll be her third chance and that's once in a lifetime. (Really? I say b'bye.)

Time to Vote:
Shirin voted for Spencer
Spencer voted for Shirin - he knows she wrote his name down too and doesn't have a bad thing to say about her.

Tallying the Votes:
No one plays a hidden immunity idol.
Votes:
Spencer - 1
Shirin - 1
Shirin - 2, 3
Spencer - 2, 3... 4
Shirin - 4... one vote left...
And it's SHIRIN voted out - she tells Spencer to "give 'em hell."
Spencer says he meant everything he said, "thank you guys" (we'll see.)

Next week:  Jeff tells them to drop their buffs, they are switching from two tribes to three tribes (WHAT? Come on! That seemed to be the consensus.)

Shirin - didn't feel like she got to seize her second chance.  She struggled to change this time around - she had an awesome opening act but then blew up her own game.

And... with Shirin leaving, that takes Cara & Alex L., Krista H., and Kevin T. out of the pool. (Sorry Kevin, your first time playing and you're out of both pools already, ouch.)

Have a great rest of the week everyone,

Coleen

The Amazing Race 27 Premiere Episode Recap - Sep 25/15

A Little too Much Beefcake

The 27th Season of the Amazing Race began at Venice Beach, CA... and we started to meet some of the couples as they ran up the beach to meet Phil (so we also got to see their fitness level - have you ever tried to run in sand? Not fun or easy.)

Justin & Diana - he created a fake Amazing Race as an elaborate proposal and when it was posted on the internet, it went viral (I never saw it, just sayin'.)
Tanner & Josh - I think they are the titular beefcake - friends from Texas - planning to use flirtation as their biggest strategy on the Race (Great, I dislike them already.)
Alex & Adam - cousins with dwarfism - one was a wrestler through school, the other the theatre kid - they expect to be the sleeper team to slip on through everything (no one will expect the little people to beat them.)
Cindy & Rick - newlywed dentist and doctor who think they are smarter and better than everyone - we'll see how that goes... and they've named themselves Team Chacattack (or maybe the show has named them all this season, not sure.)
Denise & James Earl - Mother and son - single mother, they were very close throughout his childhood but she didn't take his coming out very well and they were estranged for awhile, hoping to heal their relationship on the race.
Jazmine & Danielle - record breaking college track stars in the Heptathlon, they think they're the dream team (I hope so, cause they are my team in the pool - go Team Purple Track Stars!)
Logan & Chris - a girl named Logan, that's unusual... anyway, these two are dating paparazzi... they started off as photographers but then the money from shooting celebrities drew them to the dark side... they should be good at sneaking around quickly on the Race though.
Tiffany & Krista - former NFL cheerleaders - they are all done up but don't let the hair and make up fool you, they are hoping to prove how smart they are... I guess.

And they make it to Phil who welcomes them and tells them they are going to be heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil... but first they have to jump in a cab to another beach where they will go head to head in a bike race - the team that wins that bike race will receive the one and only ticket on the first flight to Rio - the second flight leaves 30 minutes later.
They are all going to be wearing fitbits again this season and the team that wins the first leg will also win the Express Pass.  Off they go!

In the cab we meet the remaining teams:
Joey & Kelsey are dating news anchors who introduce themselves like reporters in the cab (ugh). She's using the race to see if they should make this relationship permanent (cause you need that extra pressure on the race.)
Kelly & Shevonne - co-workers from TMZ, a celebrity gossip website and TV show - they are used to sitting in chairs and talking smack on people... now they'll have to be running, and talking smack on people. (Ha, I love these two, I used to watch the TMZ show everyday - and you may have noticed, I sometimes talk smack on the people on these reality shows :).)
Ernest & Jin - brothers - they have no home to go back to if they get eliminated, right now they're sleeping out of their car.  They started dancing/street performing to make money and they're on the Race for the same reason - go hard or go home, well they don't have a home. (Let's hope they're resourceful then.)

All the teams arrive at the other beach for the bike race and realize they are water bikes - a single bicycle with two outrigger pontoons - with one person riding at a time - off they go.  Team Beefcake is leading the pack when their powerful muscles break their bike - allowing Justin & Diana to take over the lead.  He says they would tow them but they're just too much beefcake (ha!)
-Everyone passes them by with only the dwarf cousins even asking if they were okay... but even that was coached with, "What happened, where you pedaling too well?"

-Justin & Diana (Green Team, because they are wearing green) are the only team on the first flight.  Everyone else will be together on the second flight to Rio.
-Team TMZ breaks it down for us - the Pink team (Denise & James Earl) just a little too Norman Bates. Tanner & Josh, (Team Beefcake) did a lot of fist bumping, I mean A LOT of fist bumping. The Cheerleading squad (Tiffany & Krista) very prissy, they have a lot of questions about their primping process - Kelly wonders if some teams are there to look good, versus do good in the competition. (Is she a writer for TMZ? Do well.)

Once the teams land in Rio, they must make their way to the Lagoa Helipad and sign up for a helicopter ride over Rio. (Whee!)
-The first flight was delayed 20 minutes and the second flight came in 5 minutes early so essentially, they all got there at the same time.
-Justin & Diana were still able to make it to the Helipad first and, surprise, there is a possible Fast Forward on this leg.  Justin wants that Express Pass so bad, they are definitely going for the Fast Forward - which is having to hang-glide over Rio, with the warning that the task is weather dependent.

Chacattack (Rick & Cindy) decides that going for the FF would be too risky so they read the Route Info which tells them they will be taking a helicopter tour over Rio past Christ the Redeemer - and they must answer the heliport manager's question about what they've seen when they land to get their next clue.
-Everyone is doing the helicopter tour assuming someone already took the FF.  The views of Rio are breathtaking, the mountains with the city sprawling around in the mist, very cool.

-Justin & Diana get to the hang-gliding club and their pilot tells them the wind is too strong, it is too dangerous to fly - and you can see Justin's dreams being dashed, he even starts crying in the cab back to the helipad, sure that their Race is over already. Diana tells him to pick his head up, it's not over! (He's too much of a keener, this could be awkward.)  Oh, and the other thing is they spent all of their money on cabs getting them too and from the FF... oof, that's not good.

-The first team to finish the heli-tour was Chacattack, the question the guy asked was, what monument did they see - Christ the Redeemer - Dr. Rick even gave the answer in Portugese and they got the next clue (Dr. Rick went for a high five but the clue guy left him hanging - ha, oops.)  They get the clue to the DETOUR - Sand or Sidewalk
Sand - Teams will have to play foot volley (beach volleyball using your feet like soccer) against pros - however the racers will be allowed to use their hands.  If they can score 6 points before the pros reach 18, they will get the next clue.
Sidewalk - a wavy designed stone mosaic sidewalk stretches for 2 miles along the Copacabana beach - teams will have to complete a slide puzzle that mimics the pattern in the sidewalk to get the next clue (I hate those slide puzzles...)

-Chacattack chooses sidewalk and takes off just as Denise & James Earl (team Alabama) get the question right  - and they are also heading out for Sidewalk.

-Other teams are still waiting their turn for the helicopter tour and The Dancers, Ernest & Jin, are looking at a tourist info board that lists the places they will be flying over, to make sure they know the answer to the question that might be asked (that's smart.)

Copacabana Beach - Cindy & Rick (Chacattack) have to use personal changing covers to change into the white bikini and white short shorts they have to wear on this Detour.  Rick loves his shorts, Cindy does not.  They get going on the puzzle... or should I say Rick starts on the puzzle because he shoots down any suggestions she makes, which also doesn't sit well with Cindy (this race is already testing the Newlyweds.)
-Team Alabama-Mother/son get there and also start working the puzzle.

-In the helicopter, paparazzi Chris wishes he had a camera to capture the beautiful scenery without having to look for celebrity houses - Logan says she's kind of glad not to have her camera so she could just enjoy what she's seeing (Huh, I think I like paparazzi Logan, guess I shouldn't judge a person by their profession.)
-One of the little person cousins is not enjoying the helicopter ride, holding on for dear life while his cousin laughs at him (oh boy.)

-Beach volleyball - Team Beefcake and the Track and Field girls are the first teams taking on the soccer pros... who are amazing by the way.  Tanner & Josh thought it would be easy because they could use their hands but they soon find out it's going to be harder than they thought to get six points before the pros annihilate them.

-Back at the puzzle - Rick is being a dismissive jerk and taking over the puzzle, she's not impressed with his tone - they need to work on their communication.

-Track Stars and Beefcake do start getting some points - and it's Tanner & Josh who are the first team to get the clue to the Pit Stop: Arpoador Lookout - and they take off running for the mat.
-Jazmine & Danielle are the next team to get the clue to the Pit Stop and they jump in a cab to get to the lookout.

-Denise & James Earl finish the puzzle before the doctors and Cindy wants to switch to the volleyball but Dr. Rick isn't giving up.

Meanwhile - the failed FF team has finally arrived at the helipad where they confirm they are in last place, and he's crying again - kudos to Diana for remaining positive as he's falling apart.

-Team TMZ is attempting the beach volleyball and failing miserably (that looks familiar, totally would be me.) They quickly decide to change to the puzzle... which they quickly realize also is not that easy.
-Chacattack finally gets the puzzle done and they head for the Pit Stop.

-The Cousins get the clue to the Detour and the wrestler wants to do the volleyball, theatre guy isn't so sure but goes with it anyway.
-The Dancing brothers get the question right (because they wrote all the answers down) - and they head out for the volleyball.

-Back at the puzzle - The Reporters, Joey & Kelsey, are working on the puzzle.  Team TMZ is moving pieces in circles (get it together ladies.)

- The Cousins and The Dancers are not too thrilled about the little shorts - but the dancers are not looking too shabby, just go with it.
-The Dancers start playing volleyball and quickly realize the pros are not really human, being able to play so well with only their feet - come on!
-The Cousins are working the net and also the Paparazzi are doing a good job on the volleyball.

-The Green Team are trying to get a cab to take them to Copacabana beach but they have no money left and have to beg a ride - they get a sympathetic cab driver who agrees to take them.
-The Cheerleaders on the other hand, got a cab driver that kicked them out first chance he got as soon as they were close to the beach, not even making sure they found the area they needed... I guess the looks don't always get you whatever you want.  The girls take off running and find out they are actually pretty far away from where they need to be.

-Justin & Diana (Failed FF) finally get to the beach and see there are still teams working the puzzle and he is so excited!  WE'RE STILL IN THIS BABY!  The Reporters can't believe their eyes, everyone thought the Green Team was way ahead of them.
-Then the Cheerleaders show up and Justin is crowing that there is even a team behind them - it's like he has a new lease on life.
-The Reporters finally decide to switch to volleyball and leave The Green Team and Team TMZ doing the puzzle.

-The Little People Cousins get their six points and shock the Dancers - Ernest & Jin say, "Don't underestimate the little people." Like Alex/Adam said (I don't know who is who yet), they may not be able to spike the ball but they can still get it over the net.
-And the cheerleaders are also trying to play some volleyball but site their height in why they are doing so badly... they obviously didn't see the little people kick butt... and there are tears, so they decide to switch to the puzzle.

-The Reporters get their six points and Justin & Diana notice, "Ken & Barbie just finished," which prompts them to switch detours and head for the Volleyball.
-Ernest & Jin finally get the sixth point and complete the volleyball.

-And we have two all girl teams working the puzzle.  The Cheerleaders and Team TMZ who appear to be equally frustrated with the stupid slide puzzle.

-Justin & Diana get the six points and head for the Pit Stop. In the cab they are vowing to never make a stupid mistake (like going for the FF) again, and he vows, "No More Crying" (uh huh.)

-The Cheerleaders finish the puzzle which totally demoralizes Team TMZ - they thought they were smarter than the Cheerleaders... they know they are never going to live this down in the TMZ newsroom.

 Here's How They Finished:
1) Tanner & Josh - Team Texas (Beefcake) - they win the Express Pass which they can use to skip any task before the end of the fifth leg - once they use it, they have to pass it on to another team who will have to use it in the next leg (oh, that's different.)
2) Jazmine & Danielle - Team Track Stars - scream like little girls to be team #2... (really ladies, I know you're excited but this is not America's Next Top Model, keep the screeching down.)
3) Rick & Cindy (Chacattack) - he's still sporting the short shorts, he's gone native.
4) Denise & James Earl (Team Alabama) - she put on pink lipstick before hitting the mat because they are the pink team and she wasn't wearing any pink.  Phil appreciated the effort (he might have a little thing for mom?)
5) Logan & Chris - (the Paparazzi) so excited to be #5.
6) Alex & Adam - (the Cousins) - that million dollars is waiting for them.
7) Ernest & Jin - (the Dancers)
8) Kelsey & Joey - (the Reporters)
9) Justin & Diana - (the Green Team) and he's crying again at the mat - he just wants it so bad... (broke his own no more crying pledge already.)
10) Tiffany & Krista (The Cheerleaders) - squealing and crying at the mat.

And finally, after 3 hours and 45 minutes, Kelly & Shevonne (Team TMZ) finally complete the slide puzzle, but it's much too late - Phil shows up to meet them and tell them they have been Eliminated from the Race.
Phil also laughingly asks what's going to happen when they go back to work and Kelly knows it's going to be never ending getting ripped on by their co-workers.  She muses if maybe it's a karma thing, Shevonne says maybe they should be nicer - ha, that's not going to happen, so they're just going to hit the bar. (Aww, I'm going to miss team TMZ, they would have been entertaining if nothing else.)

And with Kelly & Shevonne's elimination, that takes Katie L, Shelley A, Lynne B, Patty F. and Kevin T. out of the pool... but you get your money back, if that's any consolation.

This season's going to be a good one judging by the clip montage. Go Team Track Stars! :)

Have a great week everyone,

Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance - Premiere Episode Recap - Sept 23/15

Second Chance

Last night was the premiere of Survivor Second Chance, where 20 former Survivors who have played only once before, get a second chance to finish what they started.  We opened with the contestants in the back of a truck and start re-meeting a few:
-Kelly Wiglesworth was on Season One in Borneo, where she heartbreakingly came in second to Richard Hatch... and I just gotta say, girl has had some work done - that was not the same nose she had 15 years ago - anyway - she said losing by one vote has been poking at her for 15 years (really, that's a little sad) but she's stronger and smarter and she's a mom now, so she thinks she can do anything.
-Andrew Savage - living the dream, perfect wife, kids, job - he has no bad things in his life except Pearl Islands (really?  I don't even remember this guy but apparently Jonny Fairplay had something to do with his ousting - uh, I hated that guy). Andrew says his losing Survivor has haunted him for 12 years, he hasn't gotten over it - so to cure his Survivor pain he's putting 1000% in this game, it will be epic (does he have Mike disease with the ridiculous percentages? Ugh.)
-Spencer - admits he was frankly cocky last time he played (was it all of two years ago?) but he says he's done a lot of growing and maturing in that time (he's a ripe ol' 22 now) - he's more emotionally aware of the people around him and thinks he's in a better place to win this game.
-Kimmi - her time in Australia was cut short and she wants to fulfill her dream of getting to the end... 14 years is a long time to  finish that last chapter in the book.
-Kelley Wentworth - playing with her dad the last time was her downfall, she probably should have written his name down (wow) - but this time she can make the moves she wanted to make and have a better game. (Man, two Kell(e)y W's, great.)
-Ciera - she messed up the first time being scared early on, but once she realized she could socially make her way through the game, she started making some moves (like voting off her own mother) - this time she wants to be fearless from the beginning and just leave it all out on the island.
-Tasha - First time she played she was nice Tasha, she didn't want her church members to think badly of her - but when she got home her church members were the ones telling her she needed to be more aggressive and back-stab people (Ha! What Church is that?) so this time she's there for a million dollars and when it's all done she'll pray for forgiveness. (Yikes)

Oh, and did I mention they have been driving through jungle and villages, then they were walking through a temple - there were monks and monkeys...

-Jeff Varner - This second chance means everything to him - he jumped off a pole in Australia for peanut butter and he ended up going home - having to go over that mistake for 14 years does a number on ya... This is his opportunity to re-write his story, he's not jumping off anything for peanut butter.

Now they've reached some boats and are heading out on the water.

-Joe - Man-bun - He grew up watching Survivor and he really wanted to make it far enough to get his Dad out there for the loved ones visit - but he fell short and wants to make up for it right now (don't forget, he just played last season, so at least he hasn't been eaten up with regret for years like the oldies.)
-Kass - She is still Chaos Kass - they showed her flip off someone as they were voted out - she likes her legacy thus far - she wants to change people's perception of her but not really change so when the merge happens all hell will break loose. (I didn't find her as bad @ss as she thinks she is, but she was a good player.)
-Abi-Maria - She says she knows she made a lot of mistakes in her first season - and they showed her threatening to kill RJ, hitting Skupin in the head with a coconut, arguing with Lisa Welchil (not Blair!)... She said she's getting a second chance to patch those little mistakes (little?) But villains have more fun (oh yeah, she's not changing anything.)
-Jeremy - played with his wife before - it was very emotional and split his focus worrying about her - he took it hard getting blindsided by his alliance - this time he wants to win the money for Val, and he's back for some redemption for himself.

The boats are finally coming up to a bigger boat... and there is Jeff Probst welcoming them to Survivor Cambodia - Second Chance.  He points out that they all played before and didn't win -  meaning, they failed - and now are being given a second chance.  More importantly they were chosen by the audience to get this chance.
Jeff asks some of them how it feels knowing they were voted in - Ciera said it adds pressure not to let down America (Merica!), Jeff Varner is emotional, he's thought about this a lot in the last 14 years, Joe (Man-bun) playing back to back, made them all feel old saying he gets to play beside these great players he grew up watching... (I don't quite get the Joe love honestly - he's a poor man's Malcolm.)
Kelly Wiglesworth - Joe made her feel old - Jeff asked her how often she replays losing by one vote?  She says, "Uhhh, Everyday."  (They even added a sound effect to highlight how sad that is... oh Kelly.)

Finally time to get started:
Tribe Ta Keo is: Kelly Wiglesworth, Woo, Peih-Gee, Shirin, Spencer, Abi, Vytas, (Terry) Dietz, Jeff Varner and Kelley Wentworth
Tribe Bayon (pronounced Bi-on): Ciera, Tasha, (Stephen) Fishbach, (Andrew) Savage, Jeremy, Monica, Joe, Keith, Kass and Kimmi.

Both tribes names after famous temples in Angkor Wat which they had travelled through to get there.
On Jeff's boat is a bunch of supplies they will want to collect to make their lives easier, the catch is that 100ft beyond that boat is another boat with a big bag of rice on it - first person to touch the bag of rice wins - so they have to decide how much time to spend gathering supplies before they get on their raft and head for the second boat. (It's not clear what they win other than the bag of rice...) Anyway, off they go, jumping in the water with their nice clothes on - then it's a free for all grabbing stuff and loading up the rafts.

Ta Keo is the first team out on their raft and Kelly Wiglesworth decided to swim out in front of the raft instead of paddling with the tribe.  Bayon is right on their tail but their raft is a bit overloaded and slow - Stephen wonders if someone can swim it and Man-bun is on it... as Kelly is slowing down he's swimming strong but as he gets along side the Ta Keo raft, Woo jumps in and he makes it to the rice first.
Jeff declares him the winner for Ta Keo and tells them to head for their beaches - 39 days - One Survivor. (So was it just a team building exercise? They just win, now soggy, rice?)

Ta Keo - Day 1
They are all huggy and happy when they reach the beach - Jeff V. says they should name the chicken Kimmi but they can't kill it (she famously had a finger waving fight over a chicken in Australia)- Vytas gives Kelley Wentworth a lingering hug, she says no brother, no dad, we're all good (they did play together before but on separate teams I believe.)
-Quickly the tribe starts working on a shelter, and it becomes clear who the workers are in Kelly Wiglesworth's eyes - Terry, herself, Woo, Spencer and Vytas.  She hopes that when it gets cold and they have somewhere to sleep, they'll remember who was working to build them shelter - you don't get any more Old School Survivor than Kelly.
-Terry tells Vytas that he will be honorary Old School because his brother Aras beat Terry the first time he played (I have very little memory of that season, I'm so bad, once it's over it's gone.) But we're starting to hear a common theme of Old School vs New School brand players of this game.
-Terry knows the game starts immediately when you hit the beach now - his wife told him not to let people just go off on their own - that he's got to be better at the social game of Survivor to win.
-Terry talks to Spencer and tells him that his son told him to align with Spencer - Spencer tells the camera thank you to Terry's kids for getting their dad to trust him - because he doesn't trust anyone and he's going to do what's best for him. (Don't be douchey already.)
-Spencer says he's a New School player but he's an Every School fan - he wants to talk to everyone more quickly than he did before.

And then the DRAMA begins.  Abi, "Has anyone seen my bag?" (Oh no, here it comes, she's going to lose her mind...) She's asking everyone, she has to find her bag because it has her leather bracelet in it.  Woo offers her another bag - no, she wants her bag and her bracelet.  Shirin asks if she's checked the bags hanging on the tree and Abi is having a hard time controlling her emotions, she knows it was her downfall when she played before but it is hard for her not to pull out the fangs. (Yup, I'm waiting for her to blow.)

Bayon - Day 1
They appear to all be working around camp - either building the shelter (the men) or weaving palm fronds (the women... Do we have to fall into the sexist stereotypes, really?)
And we hear from Keith - he says he didn't think he'd make the cut but he's grateful and isn't going to coast along this time, 4th place was a bitter pill to swallow... (I see the spitting hasn't changed though - great.)
-Jeremy talks to Keith and they agree that they're good - then Jeremy talks to Tasha, the strongest female out there in his opinion - then he talks to Savage, another physical threat (oh yeah, Jeremy is working it HARD.)  They don't have a good feeling about Fish (what? Why not? Poor geeky Stephen) and then Jeremy focuses on the best shield out there Joe (Man-bun), so he's assembling his dream alliance already.
- Andrew tells Joe a sweet and somewhat creepy story about how his 17 and 15 year old daughters think Joe is perfect (oy, don't let it go to your bun-head.)  Joe says he and the other alpha males seem to be on the same page and ready to work together instead of against each other (yeah, for now.)
-And then we spend some time with the Fishbach out of water - poor Stephen feels out of place on the tribe with all these physical men that are totally in their element - this is what happened last time he played, until he connected with one of those guys and he went all the way to the end - but he doesn't want to do that again because he lost.  The way he sees it, he's either going to have to start running things, or he's going to dramatically over-play and flame out quickly (sadly, unless he starts doing something different, he's already being left behind.)

Ta Keo - Day 1
Vytas is my guy in the pool - we spend some time with him in his underwear (tight multi colour patterned boxer briefs - you didn't bring shorts?) He tells us last time he was put on a tribe with all women who wanted him out but he was able to manipulate their perspective and get in their good graces... he thinks he's good at that - but really he's just creepy.  Telling Peih-Gee she looks like a friend of his who's beautiful, touching Kelly as they talk, trying to massage Abi's shoulders (she's having none of it.)
-Shirin is watching his behaviour and tells the camera that Vytas is just smarmy (you've got that right).  She wants to lock down the people she wants to play with right away so she talks to Jeff Varner and Spencer pointing out that Vytas is super well-connected - Terry played with Aras and they're close, so Vytas and Terry are close and he has ties with the other tribe as well having played with Ciera before... Jeff's head is spinning, he's not seeing any of this stuff, he can't believe how fast she's talking and he tells the camera this train just starting going and he got on it, he doesn't care who's pulling him along, yes is your answer. (I love Jeff Varner, he's funny but he better start catching up or that train's going to run him over.)
-Shirin is going on and Spencer agrees that they love Kelley Wentworth.... Jeff is trying to play along and suggests Pieh-Gee but Shirin isn't sure, she's got to feel her out... (she might as well have patted him on the head, you just do as your told for now.)
-Jeff Varner tells us he will be 50 next year and many men his age have a mid-life crisis, for him he went on Survivor, he's having a mid-life quest and the second half of his life begins with Survivor Second Chance.  But right now, even though he's the OG here, he's feeling like a baby - and then they showed us a 'so ugly it's cute' baby monkey - Awww.

Drama! "So where's my bracelet?" Abi is still looking for her bag/bracelet and she sticks her hand in Peih-Gee's bag and finds her bracelet.  Very interesting, instead of asking PG (I'm short-handing her name from now on) about it though, she goes around behind her back to everyone else and tells them she found her bracelet in PG's bag, pretending like she's giving her the benefit of the doubt but really sowing the seed with everyone that PG is not to be trusted. (Ugh - She is the devil.)
-PG is a grown up and confronts Abi to clear the air about this bracelet ... but her explanation also made no sense.  She says there was a bag hanging up with no name on it so she just took it, not knowing there was anything in it... Did you not look in it?  Did you not realize when Abi was looking everywhere and asking everyone about her bag, that you had taken it??? (Makes no sense, and I'm wondering if this was set up, because really - she would have realized right? Is it just me?)  PG said she didn't make the relationships as she should have the last time so she wants to do better this time - (News flash, you're not doing better, but then neither is Abi.)

Bayon - Day 1
Man-bun/Joe is trying to make fire as everyone else stands around offering suggestions... when they realize that Stephen isn't there... Kimmi says he's off trying to find a hidden idol.  And she's right, Stephen is shirtless but wearing long pants and awkwardly trying to go down a ravine into stagnant water to look for an idol - and for a guy who's supposed to be smart, he's picked the worst, most obvious time to do this... I don't feel good about Fishbach's chances this time people.

Joe-bun makes fire!  Then sings about Teamwork (with a capital ME!)
-Savage gets all philosophical about this being a sign of great things to come.

Ta Keo - Day 2
Yoga starts the day for Kelly Wigelsworth and Vytas - everyone else is just waking up.
-Jeff V. doesn't want to look it, but he's playing hard - he and PG are talking in the water and he gets her take on things - she sees the tribe to be divided into the Shelter people and the Beach people.  Which is the Old School/Shelter where hard work is your worth and New School/Beach who go running down the beach and try to get everyone in an alliance right away.  Jeff has been approached by the Beach people but he doesn't want to turn his back on his old school/Shelter people.  PG feels like she's kind of in the same boat (except no one's approached her.)  They discuss who they'd choose for first boot - Jeff says Shirin wants to get rid of Vytas and PG thinks they should do something about Abi (of course you would, she hates you for stealing her really ugly bracelet.) Jeff V. is feeling torn.

Ta  Keo - Day 3
Kelley Wentworth takes on the task of gathering coconuts and palm fronds so she can spend some time looking for the hidden immunity idol - she's smart and actually puts coconuts on the path in case someone comes looking for her - and she searches until she finds... is it, did she really find ... a clue to the hidden idol. Oh.  It tells her that the hidden idol is tucked up under the front right tripod that they have to place their raft on during the immunity challenge.  If she's bold enough to retrieve the idol during the challenge, immunity is hers.  (That's cool, I like that twist.)

Bayon - Day 3
Tree mail - 15 years waiting to return, the first challenge ever done... So they have to replay the first challenge ever, fun.
-Andrew gives them a little speech about being a family (ugh, I'm over this guy already, was he always this preachy?)
-Monica goes on about how she's the smallest one there (humble brag)... But does anyone remember Monica?  Me neither.

More Yoga, with Joe/man-bun and he's got a good class going with Kimmi, Tasha, Stephen and Andrew.  Keith can't be bothered with that hooey - He "gets up in the morning, has a cup of coffee and goes to work like 99% of Americans do, no one wants to see me bend over and get contorted out there" (ha, Keith, good ol' boy for sure.) "Joe, pretty boy with the hair - yoga, that's Joe."

-Tasha was loving her some Joe-ga - she kept getting distracted by his body (really?) but she feels like they are in a good mental place to win this challenge.

Ta Keo - Day 3
Vytas is also giving some yoga lessons to Shirin, teaching her a modified downward dog that she can do all over and then he proceeds to demonstrate... showing us his butt and just being smarmy guy still.  Spencer and New Kelley are laughing at him - she says his attempts to flirt with all the women are really getting annoying.  She wants him out, you're dead to me.  Vytas tries to offer Abi some lessons but she still wants nothing to do with him and that makes him nervous that she'll want him out. (Is this guy so out of touch that he doesn't realize all the women are skeeved out by him?) He tells the camera his mistake the first time was his lack of awareness and over confidence - (I think you still have those problems, dude.)
-Terry talks to Vytas and Old Kelly saying they want to win the challenge of course but if they don't, he's thinking it will be Abi right off the bat.  Vytas agrees it would be smart to go for Abi because no one likes her, but the day is still young.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
-New Kelley is just thinking about the hidden immunity idol, that's all she has on her mind (as you should!)

The challenge - they start on a platform out in the water, on Jeff's go they will swim to a raft with a fire pot on it, they will light a torch and then swim the raft along a series of torches which they have to light along the way to the beach where they will place their raft on a stand (where the hidden immunity idol is, but only New Kelley knows that.)
Then one person from each tribe will use sticks and rope to fashion a long pole to retrieve a key that is on the other side of a locked gate - first tribe to unlock the gate and light their final fire on the other side, wins Immunity and also reward of a fire-making kit.
Quest for Fire was the very first Challenge ever run on Survivor, Old Kelly was there and she lost... "thanks for reminding me Jeff."

-Off they go and Ta Keo is out first as Tasha held up Bayon - but they get the torches lit with Spencer and Keith taking control of the fire for each tribe.  They were neck and neck lighting the fires until Keith lost control of the torch and dunked it in the water - he had some trouble getting the torch re-lit and they fell behind - just getting out of the water as Ta Keo was placing their raft on the stand... And the camera focused in on the hidden idol (come on New Kelley!) But there is too much traffic around, she can't go for it yet... Old Kelly starts working on making the stick to go for the key and they're showing New Kelley keep looking at the raft, will she go for it? (No one's looking!  But the other tribe could see her... Argh, this is nerve wracking just to watch.)
-Okay, Bayon is finally back and Joe gets working on the stick...
- Old Kelly makes an attempt at the key but her stick is too short...
- Joe has a long stick but is it strong enough? (That's what she said).
- New Kelley is looking at the raft (go for it!)
- Joe gets to the key and as everyone is concentrating on the action at the gates, New Kelley finally makes her move and smoothly grabs the hidden idol and sticks it in the small of her back (Yay!)
-Meanwhile Joe has retrieved their key with a cool whip action of the pole and Spencer has taken over for Old Kelly working on retrieving their key, but it's too little too late and Bayon wins Immunity!

Old Kelly (Jeff's calling her Wiglesworth now, maybe that's better than Old Kelly :)) - says she feels 100% responsible, they had built a strong lead and they fell behind on the pole construction, that was her fault.  (You don't do that, don't throw yourself under the bus, they'll gladly do it for you... though she does seem to be getting the sympathy instead of the enmity of her tribe so maybe it is a good strategy.)  But then she's crying when they all say she hasn't let them down (come on, suck it up.)

-Then Jeff lays another bombshell on them - they are heading to Tribal Council - right - now!  No time to confer, no time to strategize - and they are all, understandably, freaking out.

TRIBAL COUNCIL
I'm calling a little bit of BS on the straight to tribal council because they are all wearing different clothes from the challenge when they get there.

-Spencer says Second Chance means a whole new element of heartbreak - you're not only letting down friends and family if you're voted out, but also all those people who wanted to see you have that second chance.
-Woo said immediately he could see the division happening between the Old School way of playing, let's build the shelter - and the New School way, let's go strategize, let's go talk... and it was very clear.
-Terry Dietz agrees with that - he's part of the Old School regime and they were busy building, not getting a chance to talk but then they did get down to talking, that is a big part of the game. It was an eye opener to see it happening that fast.
-PG says second chance is about - did you learn from your mistakes the first time, and correct them? (Hmm, why did they focus on Abi there? ;)) - PG says she's been trying really hard to split the difference between camp life and trying to get to know everyone - you can't get stuck making the same mistakes you did the first time.
-Abi says second chance is about growth, it's about learning from her mistakes - she says she's faced some situations where she could have been a firecracker but she's counted to ten and reached the next level of her confidence (huh? right.)
-Wigelsworth says coming straight to Tribal from the Challenge may have a huge impact because they couldn't talk - she says she's still trying to catch up.
-Jeff Varner pipes in that he thinks people know exactly what they're doing tonight, he doesn't care what they say - there has been a lot of work on this beach in the last three days.
-Vytas says he thinks that enough people have talked and know where they stand that it's definitely not going to be random tonight.
-Woo says tonight's vote is very critical, it's going to set the tone for the game and honestly, tonight, he doesn't know where he's going (sub-text there is, "No one's come to talk to me yet Jeff." Woo better get working.)
-Abi says she clearly sees the division now, clearly there is a male thing that's going on with them.
-Vytas says there is not a male thing going on, (Abi contorts her face like she is not buying that... but then no one's been talking to her either so she should be scared) Vytas goes on about tribe unity... blah blah.  Abi feels nervous, as she should be.
-Wiglesworth is picking up on some cues, she thinks she knows which way she's going.
-Jeff Varner says he's been doing nothing but picking up on cues in the last three days and he doesn't know about his other Old School counterparts, if they've been playing as hard as he has, but he's balls to the wall and can't wait to see what's going to happen tonight.
Jeff finally asks if there is an elephant in the room he's missing - Jeff V. says if there is, we're about to find out.  This is his second chance and he doesn't want to screw it up.

Time to Vote:
Abi votes for Vytas
Vytas votes for Abi
New Kelley votes Vytas
PG is disgusted by a millipede...

Tallying the votes:
No one plays a hidden immunity idol
Votes:
Vytas - 1
Abi - 1
Vytas - 2
Abi - 2
Vytas - 3
Abi - 3
Vytas - 4
Abi - 4
Vytas - 5... one vote left...

VYTAS is the first person voted out of Survivor Second Chance - and I made $10... Bye creepy yogi.
So with Vytas leaving - Richard B, Coleen T and Chandra K are out of the pool - but we get our stake back at least - and we can root for whoever we really want to win now :)

Next week: Abi is playing the same old game, getting right in PG's face - and Varner is trying to change it up, saying to Dietz that all these threats have got to go.  He doesn't like these people, he's had a wake up call to get off his @ss and play this game (oooh...)

Vytas' final thoughts - with a chuckle he tells us he originally said he'd rather not get picked than be the first out - it sucks.  He went out there and tried to pick the people he wanted to play with but it's a sign of respect, they were afraid of him and with good reason.  (Whatever, you creeped all the women out, so you are gone.)

They showed how everyone voted too:
Abi - Vytas
Woo - Abi
New Kelley - Vytas
Vytas - Abi
Wiglesworth - Abi
Spencer - Vytas
Shirin - Vytas
PG - Vytas
Deitz - Abi
Varner - Vytas
- So does that mean that Shirin is running this thing right now? I'm not sure if that's scary or cool - (as long as she keeps her pants on!)

Overall, I thought it was a good opening episode.  I have hope for this being an enjoyable season to watch.
