Monster Truck Heroes
It's the season finale so they started with a recap of the finalists journey's so far:
Blair & Hayley's blind date got off to a rocky start and got worse from there but they seem to have finally found a way to work together coming in first in the last two legs and securing a spot in the final.
Mike & Rochelle started out with a relationship goal, using the race as a fast forward for their relationship, but they have been tested throughout with the last leg proving especially challenging for Rochelle - but a surprise at the mat kept them racing into the final.
Jelani & Jenny had success right out of the gate but soon realized they had issues to work out (she's a control freak) but from then on a friendship formed and their consistent racing has kept them in the running.
Tyler & Laura's blind date started with positive first impressions and they quickly formed a strong bond, avoiding a disastrous mistake (forgetting the fanny pack in another teams car) with level heads quickly made them a force to be reckoned with, muscling their way into the final.
Final leg - the teams kept racing from Peru to Dallas, Texas - they all flew 3K miles north to Dallas and once they touched down had to make their way to AT & T Stadium to find their next clue. All four teams are on the same flight - the first three teams were surprised to see Mike & Rochelle show up... but whatchagunnado? Hayley tells Blair, "You're gonna listen right?" (The side-eye he gives her is priceless.)
Dallas, Texas - the flight arrives and they are all running for cabs - Mike & Rochelle managed to be the first team in a taxi, followed by Jenny & Jelani, Laura & Tyler and finally Blair & Hayley.
-Mike & Rochelle get to the stadium and get the clue to a ROADBLOCK - Who wants to score?
-Mike says he will and they let their cab leave. They head into the stadium and they show Mike getting harnessed up and he has a football uniform (dress 'em up!)
-The other teams start arriving at the stadium and searching the grounds for the clue box - looks like all the guys are doing this one.
-The girls are waiting on the field when the Amazing Race MIKE comes on the jumbo-tron and they set off fireworks, and the marching band comes in (it's true, everything is bigger in Texas) and there goes Mike running onto the field - first he has to retrieve his playbook from 300 ft in the air (so he's harnessed up and raised to the rafters) once he comes down he has to catch a touchdown pass and then kick the field goal for the extra point.
Once Mike is down, it's Tyler's turn to run in and get hoisted up, then Blair goes.
-Mike can't catch the football, their lead might be gone.
-Jelani is the last one hoisted to the rafters, but he also played football in school.
-Tyler played some high school ball too and he makes his first catch.
-Mike makes his third catch.
-Tyler makes the kick for the clue - they have to make their way to P2 Ranch.
-Mike also has issues with kicking the ball - it sputters along the ground (yeah, that would be me.)
-Blair makes his first catch to chorus' of Hayley telling him to go quicker (really?)
-Mike still can't get the kick, but Blair doesn't do much better even though he took his shoe off... and Mike is losing his pants (crackatoa!)
-Jelani easily makes the first catch and Blair makes his second kick making Hayley & Blair the next team moving on.
-Jelani misses the first kick though, and Mike's still kicking.
-Tyler and Laura get back out to their cab and he has no idea where the P2 Ranch is.
-Poor Blair is trying to change while Hayley is telling him to hurry up (shut up!)
-Outside the cab drivers confer and Blair & Hayley's driver knows where to go so Tyler & Laura decide to wait for Hayley & Blair to come out so they can follow them... Hayley of course thinks this is ridiculous, "How shady." Laura yells at her, "we're not taking your cab, chill out."
-Back inside the stadium Mike still can't get the ball in the air and Jelani isn't doing that much better no matter how much Jenny is screaming at him to kick higher!
-Out in the cabs, Blair & Hayley are telling their cab driver not to let the other team follow them and Tyler & Laura are freaking out at how much time their losing by just waiting for the other cab to go (why they are all still sitting around makes me think Hayley & Blair's driver really doesn't know where to go.)
-Mike finally makes his kick! YAY! And poor Jelani misses again, I thought Jenny was going to blow a blood vessel she was yelling so hard.
-Jelani finally makes the kick though and these two teams head outside where the other two teams taxi's still haven't left.
-Bad news for Mike & Rochelle is that their cab driver wouldn't wait there for them so they have to find a ride. Jenny & Jelani's driver was also waiting and the taxi'd teams finally leave. Tyler & Laura decide not to follow Hayley & Blair because they made such a kurfuffle... but everyone has to head to the same place.
-Mike & Rochelle do find a cab but they also went from first to last (Have I mentioned how I hate when cab driver's decide the winners?!)
-Hayley & Blair are the first team to the ranch and the clue tells them to join the cattle drive and corral some long-horns to receive their next clue.
-Cowboy Up - working with an experienced cowboys they must corral a herd of longhorns - when at least 6 are in the pen, the lead cowboy will give them their next clue.
-They dressed up again - western shirts, jeans, cowboy boots and of course the hat... (looks like the hats are disguising helmets) - Blair apparently has never ridden a horse (not the hands!...he's a doctor) - they head out to cowboy up.
-Jenny & Jelani and Tyler & Laura get to the ranch at the same time and they get suited up in their cowboy outfits... Tyler just seems so excited (there is something to be said for having a positive attitude, makes everything more fun.)
-Mike & Rochelle are in a cab, she says they are three minutes away from where they need to go and the cab driver tells them he needs gas right now - and heads in the opposite direction (WHAT? Are you kidding me? I'd be livid... so much for my positive attitude speech. LOL)
-Blair & Hayley with the help of the four or five actually cowboys doing the actual wrangling, are the first to get the cattle in the pen and they get the clue to head to the Reunion Tower to find their next clue.
-Laura is scared of falling off the horse - Tyler has a pretty cowgirl to help him along today... he's quite excited about that.
-Jenny apparently grew up riding horses in Orange County and Jelani's getting some lessons.
-They start out driving the cattle and there is one section where they have to ride through a pretty deep ditch of water - Jenny's horse tries to jump up the bank and slides back throwing Jenny off into the water - and almost kicking her - yikes! Experience cowboys, hello! She was alright though and got right back on (she's nothing if not determined.)
-Jelani seems to ride a horse like he rode the reed boat - almost lying down along it's back (when in doubt, get prone - I guess is his motto.)
-They are the next team to get the clue and head for the Reunion tower.
-Tyler and Laura head out on the range and Tyler is enjoying it, Laura is freaking out a little... Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! Once they get their cattle corralled Tyler's horse gets spooked and takes off RUNNING! They have to chase his horse down (hahaha... probably not so funny, but I laughed at #Giddyup they put on the screen.) Laura & Tyler also head off for Reunion Tower.
-When Mike & Rochelle finally get to the ranch, Phil is there to meet them and tell them that all the cattle had been rounded up, so they are ELIMINATED from the Race. Rochelle is teary again but they say they watched the other teams bicker and fight throughout the race and it made them appreciate all the more what they have - they couldn't have done this with better partners. They are still proud to be the Last Couple Standing... and Mike will finally get to meet her son.
-Reunion Tower - Hayley & Blair get the clue to another ROADBLOCK: Who has a sharp eye? Hayley does (actually all the girls will be doing this one as the guys did the first one.)
-They have to go to the top of the 500ft Reunion tower and find their next clue by looking for TAR flags as they rappel down (500ft???)
-Hayley is all strapped in and she can't even close her eyes if she gets scared because she has to spot the clue... She starts letting herself down slowly and looking around but she can't see the flags... she spots some red signs over by a parking garage, maybe that's it. Blair is yelling at her, asking if she's spotted the clue and she's like, "If he is yelling at me like I'm not doing this right..." (So what if she doesn't see the clue, does she go again?)
-Jenny & Jelani are driving up to the tower and they see Hayley coming down - Jenny is so excited to get to rappel down the tower. Laura seeing the same thing, not so enthused.
-Hayley says she's pretty confident she knows where they need to go... but I'm pretty sure she's not right. They are jumping in their cab to leave as the other two teams show up and the girls head into the tower. Tyler is so frustrated that Hayley & Blair are so far ahead, he really doesn't want them to win.
-Hayley & Blair in the cab, she's yelling at Blair to help her direct the cab driver but he doesn't know where they need to go... he basically tells her that and she's still yelling at him to help her make decisions (oh sweet jebus!)
-Tyler & Jelani are laughing about Blair & Hayley, Tyler wonders if they are bickering as usual and Jelani guarantees they are - and they are, he heard her already today, "kick it better Blair."
-Jenny & Laura are rappeling down at the same time and they are united in not wanting Blair & Hayley to win - Laura spots the flags right away but second guesser Jenny thinks it couldn't be that obvious and spots the same thing Hayley did on top of the parking garage... (NO!)
-Hayley is freaking out in the cab that Blair's not listening to her (same old, same old)... and she finally gets them to the top of the parking garage (he's pretty skeptical that's where it would be...) and he's right.
-Dangling off the tower, Laura is finally able to convince Jenny that the flags out in the field are where they need to go (good!)
-Hayley & Blair realize she's spotted the wrong thing and then she doesn't know what to do - "Do I have to do it again? They're coming down, maybe we can just follow them." (Who's being shifty now? Huh?)
-In the cab Blair wants to follow the tracks for a bit to see if he can find the flags and she's talking like she always is, "should I do it again?" When he doesn't answer her she starts yelling, "Will you help me make a decision?" (He should be telling her to shut up and listen for once - sheesh!)
-Tyler & Laura and Jelani & Jenny are heading towards the flags they saw from the tower. Tyler & Laura turn right after the train tracks and super over-thinker Jenny gets their driver to turn left because she wants to stay along the train tracks (well, can't accuse them of following or having any sense of direction.)
-Tyler & Laura are the first team to make it to the clue box and they see MONSTER TRUCKS - Tyler, "Please tell me I get to drive a monster truck!"
-They read the clue that tells them to: test your memory at the end of the bog pit, and test your driving skills to get there. They choose the snazzy bright green truck and just drive through a muddy channel (huh) - at the end they get out of the truck and face the final challenge: A Selfie Memory Test.
-First they have to unlock a shed, on the outside is a combination lock and the name of four locations they've visited along the race that correspond with leg numbers - the numbers are the combination to the lock - once they open the shed, inside is a rack of all their selfies that I'm guessing they'll have to put in order.
-Tyler & Laura are confident of the first and last leg number... the middle two, not so much.
-Jenny & Jelani have finally turned around and found the monster trucks (Jenny really is directionally challenged) - They drive through the mud slowly (Jelani drives like a grandma! Jenny's chanting "Gas it, Gas It" then she almost cracks her head on the windshield when he drives out of the mud (smooth.)
-Hayley & Blair have returned to the Reunion Tower so she can try again and she's still not seeing the flags, probably because she can't believe she was wrong and she has no one else to blame. (I'm thinking this is her Race Karma coming for her in the worst way possible.) And then finally - bing! She sees the flags over by the train tracks and books it down so they can jump in their cab and go.
-Tyler & Laura are still working on the combination.
-Jenny & Jelani have gotten to their shed and their combo is different so even if they wanted to cheat off each other they couldn't.
-Hayley is just repeating, "I'm so sorry." over and over to Blair, and he's being so Blair about it, even tempered and gracious telling her to stop, they may still have a long day ahead of them.
-Jenny & Jelani are the first team to figure out their combination and retrieve the selfies from the shed. They have to place the pictures along a read line drawn on a wall with the map of the world on it - putting the pictures in order from left to right.
-Jenny keeps saying hurry, hurry, hurry as Jelani is placing the pictures but Tyler & Laura still can't figure out the combo and get their shed open. (Grr! So frustrating.)
-Jenny & Jelani have a lot of the pictures up but they're not sure of the order on some of them... when Laura finally stumbles upon their combination and gets into the shed. (OH!) They figure out the first picture and he goes to put it up, telling her to find the next one...
-Jenny & Jelani are struggling to get all their selfies in order and placed in the right places on the time line.
-Tyler & Laura seem to be ripping through it - he says he wants to get back in his monster truck, so they have to finish - but Laura's not sure if he's doing it right. They have Big Don: Monster trucker/Judge come and look at their selfie timeline and he tells them it's not right (how would Big Don from Texas know?... I'm sure he has the answer sheet but still, seems weird.)
-Hayley & Blair finally arrive at the monster truck and she's yelling at him to buckle up, buckle up, BUCKLE UP! (safety first, even with a million dollars on the line - Can't fault her for that, but still, that voice.)
-Tyler has Laura re-read the clue to him and she says the pictures have to be in chronological order from right to left - he put their first picture on the far left because he thought it needed to be near the spot on the map... but he made that change and Big Don gives them the thumbs up! They run back to the monster truck and see Hayley & Blair have just gotten there so they are now super pumped knowing they are in first place.
-Hayley & Blair get to their shed just as Jenny & Jelani get the thumbs up from Big Don.
-Tyler & Laura get the final clue to make their way to the Continental Avenue Bridge and the FINISH LINE! They jump in their cab and he doesn't know where the bridge is (Are you new to Texas, sir?) so they jump out of that cab and ask one of the other drivers - he comes over and tells their driver it's the new bridge and then he's good to go!
-Jenny & Jelani are right behind them with Grandma driving through the mud again (come one Jelani, drive it like you don't have to pay to fix it! Oh, hold on, it's probably a standard transmission, now it makes sense.) They also get the clue to head to Continental Avenue Bridge and Jenny is directing the driver to go fast.
-Seems Tyler & Laura's driver still isn't sure, he tries to take them to a different bridge.
-Jenny is back seat driving, telling the driver to head towards all the people and his response, "I can't drive into this wall ma'am." (Haha.)
FINISH LINE... and it's TYLER & LAURA that win the 26th Amazing Race! (Yay, I really liked them as a team!) #CongratsTeamSoCal!
And with Tyler & Laura: Sia D., Kevin R., Cindi & Robert, Sharon R. and Bob L. have won $100 each in the pool!
-It doesn't look like there were any love matches among the final teams but they all finished amicably -Jenny & Jelani so close but not winners and Blair carried Hayley to the end on his back - she was still feeling like it was all her fault they lost and he said he had no regrets (he's probably not going to be single for long after this, her... they didn't do her any favours. She's pretty sure this is going to haunt her for the rest of her life.) They all agree they are still looking for love.
-Oh except Jeff & Jackie, who say they have gotten to know each other on a deeper level, he says they won each other... hmm, not sure if she agrees.
-Hayley said she'd run the race again with Blair, and he'd run it again with her if she promised not to yell at him as much... to which she said she wouldn't, if he promised to listen. Blair, "I knew you were going to say that."
Over all, I think it was a really good season, I enjoyed watching how the blind daters and existing relationships got along and dealt with the stresses on the Race.

Jenny's chanting "Gas it, Gas It" then she almost cracks her head on the windshield when he drives out of the mud (smooth.)
-Hayley & Blair have returned to the Reunion Tower so she can try again and she's still not seeing the flags, probably because she can't believe she was wrong and she has no one else to blame. (I'm thinking this is her Race Karma coming for her in the worst way possible.) And then finally - bing! She sees the flags over by the train tracks and books it down so they can jump in their cab and go.
-Tyler & Laura are still working on the combination.
-Jenny & Jelani have gotten to their shed and their combo is different so even if they wanted to cheat off each other they couldn't.
-Hayley is just repeating, "I'm so sorry." over and over to Blair, and he's being so Blair about it, even tempered and gracious telling her to stop, they may still have a long day ahead of them.
-Jenny & Jelani are the first team to figure out their combination and retrieve the selfies from the shed. They have to place the pictures along a read line drawn on a wall with the map of the world on it - putting the pictures in order from left to right.
-Jenny keeps saying hurry, hurry, hurry as Jelani is placing the pictures but Tyler & Laura still can't figure out the combo and get their shed open. (Grr! So frustrating.)
-Jenny & Jelani have a lot of the pictures up but they're not sure of the order on some of them... when Laura finally stumbles upon their combination and gets into the shed. (OH!) They figure out the first picture and he goes to put it up, telling her to find the next one...
-Jenny & Jelani are struggling to get all their selfies in order and placed in the right places on the time line.
-Tyler & Laura seem to be ripping through it - he says he wants to get back in his monster truck, so they have to finish - but Laura's not sure if he's doing it right. They have Big Don: Monster trucker/Judge come and look at their selfie timeline and he tells them it's not right (how would Big Don from Texas know?... I'm sure he has the answer sheet but still, seems weird.)
-Hayley & Blair finally arrive at the monster truck and she's yelling at him to buckle up, buckle up, BUCKLE UP! (safety first, even with a million dollars on the line - Can't fault her for that, but still, that voice.)
-Tyler has Laura re-read the clue to him and she says the pictures have to be in chronological order from right to left - he put their first picture on the far left because he thought it needed to be near the spot on the map... but he made that change and Big Don gives them the thumbs up! They run back to the monster truck and see Hayley & Blair have just gotten there so they are now super pumped knowing they are in first place.
-Hayley & Blair get to their shed just as Jenny & Jelani get the thumbs up from Big Don.
-Tyler & Laura get the final clue to make their way to the Continental Avenue Bridge and the FINISH LINE! They jump in their cab and he doesn't know where the bridge is (Are you new to Texas, sir?) so they jump out of that cab and ask one of the other drivers - he comes over and tells their driver it's the new bridge and then he's good to go!
-Jenny & Jelani are right behind them with Grandma driving through the mud again (come one Jelani, drive it like you don't have to pay to fix it! Oh, hold on, it's probably a standard transmission, now it makes sense.) They also get the clue to head to Continental Avenue Bridge and Jenny is directing the driver to go fast.
-Seems Tyler & Laura's driver still isn't sure, he tries to take them to a different bridge.
-Jenny is back seat driving, telling the driver to head towards all the people and his response, "I can't drive into this wall ma'am." (Haha.)
FINISH LINE... and it's TYLER & LAURA that win the 26th Amazing Race! (Yay, I really liked them as a team!) #CongratsTeamSoCal!
And with Tyler & Laura: Sia D., Kevin R., Cindi & Robert, Sharon R. and Bob L. have won $100 each in the pool!
-It doesn't look like there were any love matches among the final teams but they all finished amicably -Jenny & Jelani so close but not winners and Blair carried Hayley to the end on his back - she was still feeling like it was all her fault they lost and he said he had no regrets (he's probably not going to be single for long after this, her... they didn't do her any favours. She's pretty sure this is going to haunt her for the rest of her life.) They all agree they are still looking for love.
-Oh except Jeff & Jackie, who say they have gotten to know each other on a deeper level, he says they won each other... hmm, not sure if she agrees.
-Hayley said she'd run the race again with Blair, and he'd run it again with her if she promised not to yell at him as much... to which she said she wouldn't, if he promised to listen. Blair, "I knew you were going to say that."
Over all, I think it was a really good season, I enjoyed watching how the blind daters and existing relationships got along and dealt with the stresses on the Race.
