Survivor Worlds Apart - May 13/15 Episode Recap

My Word Is My Bond

Last week Carolyn sided with Mike in the vote and took out her closest ally (and only person that knew she had a hidden immunity idol) Tyler.  Oh yeah, and did you know it was Rodney's birthday?   And nobody gave up their Reward to him... can you believe it?

Merica - Night 32
-They returned from Tribal Council, which Mike enjoyed because he got to see the alliance turn on each other - but he also knows he either has to find another hidden immunity idol or win every immunity from here on out or he's the next to go.
-Dan is trying to get the fire restarted and Mike keeps asking, do you want me to do it?  Should I come in?  And Dan ignores him as he's telling us in voice over that he has no interest in working with Mike at this point, he has to be the hero and he's so arrogant and condescending - then Dan gets the fire going and shows Mike someone else can get the job done.  Dan is feeling all high and mighty with his advantage of the extra vote in his back pocket and he's sure his alliance of now 5 can get Mike out.
-Dan goes to Carolyn and confirms with her that he's all in but Carolyn doesn't trust Dan, his advantage makes him a huge threat and she's going to keep her options open with Mike.
-Carolyn goes and talks to Mike and tells him that Dan has to be the next one out... but they don't have the numbers.  She tells Mike that Dan's advantage is an extra vote and Mike's confused (Mike seems really tired after Tribal, let the guy have a nap) - but once he realizes what she's told him, he does understand how much of a threat Dan has become with that advantage - the next one will be a critical vote.
-Carolyn's got stuff brewing on both sides, but she still says if Mike doesn't win immunity, "he gots to go."

REWARD CHALLENGE- Day 34
They will be divided into two teams of three, on Jeff's go they will run through a series of obstacles then untie knots to release a doorway, then use a hatchet to chop a rope and release puzzle pieces, finally they'll have to solve a word puzzle: A Reward With All The Fixin's.  The Reward: picked up by chopper and taken on a tour of the country then touch down for a surf and turf meal before returning to camp to resume the game.
-Jeff tries to stir the pot asking Rodney how he feels and he says he's seeing stahs Jeff, he feels like he's in prison - maybe somebody will feel for him... Jeff asks if he means someone should give up the reward for him (how 'bout you try to win it you goomba?) and Rodney starts in on his litany of 'it was my birthday and a friend said they would do something for me and didn't... (Yes, Jeff, he feels that entitled.)... it hurt him.
Mike says it is hard to see him struggling but it's a Reward, you have to earn it. Win, then you'll go on it guaranteed. (Exactly!)

Teams:
Blue: Dan, Sierra & Rodney
Red: Carolyn, Mike & Will.

Off they go - They are pretty much neck and neck until the knots and blue goes ahead but not by much... they start sorting the tiles (not all of them have letters) - both teams start working on the puzzle and when Red looked over at Blue and saw one of their words, both teams started turning their tiles over of away from the other team...
30 minutes in and they are still stumped - it's the N' tile for fixin's that seems to be messing them up - Sierra said fixings but Dan shut that down as not enough letters.
45 minutes, Jeff has told them it's a six word phrase, telling them to think of all the phrases Jeff says over and over and over every season (that's not much of a clue) Jeff tells them don't worry about your grammar and Rodney says something about fix wishin' (ah, on the right track...)
1 hour in and this is now officially the longest word puzzle in the history of the show - Jeff asks, "What are you playing for? What does it come with?"  Dan asks what Jeff's saying, "is he giving us a clue?"  Sierra, "I'm not even listening to him."
-Carolyn is listening to Jeff however and finally, the Red team gets "A Reward With All The Fixin's!" (Suck it Rodney!)

-And then Carolyn's looking over at Rodney debating what to do...
Jeff lays it out that Rodney could be a vote for her if she gives it to him or he could be fed and revitalized and get rid of her... She decides to keep the Reward (when she didn't give it up on his Birthday, she was dead to him, this would have made no difference and I think she knows that... but it's better TV if she agonizes for the camera.)
Notice nobody talked to Will about giving his spot up... all staged if you ask me.

REWARD - Day 34
The helicopter ride was epic for Mike - and they pointed out there was a White collar, Blue collar and No collar on that reward.  Carolyn (who has been on every reward but one) said this was the best one.  They touch down in an open field where there is a meal laid out for them - and they talk strategy while their minds get sharper with every bite - Mike asks what they think of this as the final three - Carolyn agrees it would be a great final three but Will's not sold - he says he's entertained the thought of a final three with Mama C but not Mike because he's public enemy #1 - if Mike wins immunity til the end he has nothing to worry about (so don't you want to be on that guys side?) Nope, Will wants to get rid of the biggest threat and, to him, that's still Mike. (You couldn't just play along?  Have you seen this show before?)
-Mike just begs, please, don't let Rodney beat me in this game.  Carolyn says, Oh God no.  Even Will agrees his ass has got to calm down, he's starting to get on my nerves now (Ah! Common ground, they all agree that Rodney is annoying.)

Merica - Day 34
Rodney wants to whine about not going on the Reward again and Sierra tells him she doesn't want to talk about it... but he continues that Mama C gets to go on all the Rewards and he was screwed out of it (WHAT? This guy needs a swift kick.)  He tells the camera once Mike is out of their Mama C is next and revenge is going to be sweet.
-Dan takes off to try and find some kind of food and miraculously finds a couple melons growing nearby that they'd never seen before - he picks them and brings them back to camp, the concurring hero - (they looked like some kind of honeydew) - Rodney feels like he got a reward after all, he feels like he's in heaven now.  He starts to feel like the old Rodney, he's got his
hustle one.  Sierra, Dan & Rodney agree they are on the same page for voting out Mike and then Carolyn.  Rodney's ready to battle for the immunity, full force - so he better watch out.

Merica - Day 35
-Tree mail says something about hand eye coordination and a light touch to win immunity (I'm thinking Rodney's out.)
-Dan tells the camera they cannot let Mike win another immunity challenge, period, end of discussion. (so not quite period.)
-Mike makes a pitch to Sierra (and I got a look at her eyebrows - it looks like she has brown brows tattooed on under her actual blond brows... that's why it looks so funny... weird) anyway, Mike tells her that they have to take out Dan tonight because he can only win over Will and Rodney, he's not taking Sierra or Carolyn to the end with him... and if any of them make the top three... How will they ever vote.  Sierra agrees Mike makes a good point, she can't know what Dan will do, but the one thing she does know is that Mike has to go - going to the end with Mike would be shooting herself in the foot.  But she's smart enough to go along with him when he's talking, she agrees with what he's saying, but she's still voting Mike out.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
It's the suspended labyrinth - have to pivot the board to keep the ball going through the maze and not dropping through holes until you get to the middle.
-To start they have to use grappling hooks to retrieve three bags that each contain a ball.  Once they have all three bags they will use one of the balls to solve the table maze.  First person to get the ball to the middle of the maze wins immunity.

Off they go - and they are all getting the bags rather quickly - it is Mike who gets his three bags first though and starts on the maze first.   Dan joins him working on the maze and Dan catches up... Mike drops and has to start over - Dan is slower and steadier.  Sierra then joins them.  Dan drops and has to start again.  They have all dropped and started over... Will gets to the maze too.. and Mike just can't the ball in the middle... COME ON MIKE!  Sierra gets to the inner circle too, eeek!.. but Mike if finally able to get the ball home.  MIKE wins individual immunity and saves his bacon - it was the fourth of July inside him, fireworks going off - cause one of those five are going home.

Merica - Day 35
They get back to camp and Dan is so frustrated that Mike lives another day.  In Dan's pecking order, Carolyn is the next to go, he confirms with Rodney, Will and Sierra they are all voting Carolyn - though Sierra tells the camera if they vote like they have been to take out the biggest threats, it should be Dan tonight.(Carolyn is the biggest threat, she wins a lot too, but she's a woman, is that it?  Even from Sierra, for shame.)  She tells Dan that they are telling Mike & Carolyn it's him [Dan] so they don't get wind of it.

-Dan leaves and Mike & Carolyn come to the fire (well isn't that convenient) and Rodney says they are thinking Dan-o - Mike's good with that and Carolyn reiterates that he's the biggest threat with his advantage... no one says anything more and now Mike's not sure if Dan is the right move because they all seem to be on board - what if he gets rid of somebody else, just to mess with their plan? (Can't you just be happy? Of course his suspicious instincts have proven right on the money so far.)

-So Mike searches out Dan and decrees that Dan is going home tonight unless Mike does something to save him.
-Dan can't believe that Mike had the audacity, the unmitigated gaul, to say that he alone has the power to save him.  To Mike he says he doesn't believe him... but part of him is actually wondering if there is a chance they could turn on him.  Of course Dan is in a pissing contest with Mike, who can be the most uppity, and Dan's attitude makes Mike believe that they have lied to him and it's not Dan tonight so it must be one of the girls because Dan could only win if he takes Rodney and Will to the end with him.

-Carolyn is telling Sierra she believes what the boys told her and they are voting Dan tonight when Mike comes flying in and scares the crap out of Sierra (that was pretty funny) - but then he tells them to look at who is sleeping in the shelter - Dan & Rodney - right there, that is Survivor code for 'I'm not going anywhere' - those two know they are safe and don't have to do anything to scramble for votes - he 1Million% (still not grasping percentages) guarantees that they are voting for one of the girls tonight.

-When Mike walks away the girls agree that Mike is paranoid, he's psycho and that's what got him in this position in the first place...
-Carolyn is wracking her brain - she doesn't want to waste her idol, if she truly believes they are voting for Dan, she can save it for one more vote (oh no, you better play it, Lucy.)

TRIBAL COUNCIL
Jury comes in and Shirin is silently celebrating that Mike has the immunity necklace.

Jeff starts with Mike and asks him about trust among the other five - Mike says there may be a couple people that don't trust as much but they still have a common enemy, this guy right here (two thumbs to his own chest). However, they can't vote for him so there was some scrambling going on at camp.

-Rodney says trust is ahh... ahh... he's kind of out of his mind right now.  He says he's very depleted and having trouble with decision making and ah... what was the question again?
Jeff asks him again if he's at the point in the game where he trusts the relationships he's made?  Rodney says he's with these people 24/7 and he can't even be with his mother that much without wanting to ring her neck so at the end of the day you have to just trust in the alliances you've made and hope they are still on your side.

Carolyn - she says she wants to trust the people she wants to trust but she knows her head's on the chopping block tonight (that made Dan and Rodney gulp) people are going to tell you what you want to hear because they are all scrambling to save themselves.  I am very, very nervous tonight.

Dan- agrees that she's proven herself and Carolyn has every reason to be nervous but she's not the only one - his name has come up A LOT (he's an adopted child Jeff) - he's goes on about making a move or staying put - blah blah blah... there are still five of them there but not after tonight there won't be.

-Will says he's very nervous - Mike continuing to win immunity is digging into their numbers and Dan still has an advantage that they have no clue what it's going to do.
-Jeff asks Rodney about the advantage - he says it's kind of like a strong arm tactic, you say you're  going to use it tonight and let it be known or you keep it in your back pocket and not say a word about it... so it's scary cause it could be you who's going home.
-Sierra says there has been tons of talk [about hidden idols and the advantage] you don't want to walk out the door with something in your bag you could have played.
-Dan says tonight could be an excellent time to use his advantage, but the next Tribal Council might be even better.  Dan's a metronome going back and forth - he doesn't know what the right thing to do is.  (That made Mike roll his eyes.)

Time to Vote:
They don't show how anyone voted.

Jeff says he's going to go Tally the votes and Dan stops him, "Excuse me Jeff, I'd rather go down swinging than watch strike three go by.  I'd like to play my advantage please."
-Jeff tells them all that Dan gets an extra vote and sends Dan to go cast his vote.
-That has Carolyn shaking her head... (She better play her idol.)

Tallying the votes:
Anyone want to play a hidden immunity idol...?  And Carolyn says she's not taking the chance, and she hands Jeff her hidden immunity idol.  Any votes cast for Carolyn will not count. (Oh, Dan has a poopy diaper.)

Finally, Reading the votes:
Carolyn - does not count
Carolyn - does not count
Carolyn - does not count
Carolyn - does not count
Carolyn - does not count
Dan - 1, 2... and it's DAN joining the jury!  That was a great Tribal! It's so much fun when they can upset the apple cart - and I'm sick of listening to Dan.

But with Dan being voted out, that takes Natalie O., Jenn G. and Andria S. out of the pool.

Next week is the finale (May 20th), this is who is still in the running:

Carolyn: Donna P., Kevin C. and Chandra K.
Mike: Sunnie C., Judy C. and Susan N.
Rodney: Tam J., Sue & Hannelore and Tori K.
Sierra: Drew C., Emily H. and Kevin R.
Will: Bryon L., Sharon R. and Mike L.

The finale is going to be two hours - they show Rodney asking Carolyn why she didn't tell them she had an idol - her answer, "You all voted for me." ('nough said) There will be chills, spills and scrambling galore - I can't wait!

Dan's final thoughts: he came out there with three things to do:
#1 Have fun
#2 Be remembered
#3 Hopefully win this game
As long as he made the first two, he's still okay with that.  Everyday out there was a dream come true, he played a good game, a respectable game and he has no regrets. (Ah, we'll see how you feel after your wife sees how you treated some of the women... just saying.)

Have a great long weekend everybody.

Coleen
