Survivor Philippines - Oct 3/12 Episode Recap

This Isn't a We Game

Matsing - Blue Tribe -Night 6
They returned from Tribal Council and Angie is mad that Roxie threw herself (Angie) and Malcolm under the bus for being a couple.
Everyone else realizes it's just part of the game but Angie can't let the aspersion on her character go.  "They all know me & Malcolm are only friends." (Oh, do they?)

Russell believes that Roxy was absolutely right at Tribal Council about the couple and, since there are only 4 of them left on Matsing, he knows if Denise hitches her wagon to the young ones, he's dead.

Tandang - Yellow - Day 7
Brazilian Abi and Chesty McGee (RC) are laying out in the sand.  Abi just wants to rest, she's whining that she twisted her knee and just wants to take it easy.  RC wants to go look for the hidden immunity idol.  Abi's paranoia (and let's face it, crazy) kicks in - she thinks RC sees her a liability and she's trying to get the idol for herself.  It devolves into a polite girl-fight and RC goes off to swim with Michael (yes, Abi takes note - thinks they are talking about her I'm sure.)
-Abi goes and talks to their hot guy... oh yeah, Peter - Abi tells him that she and RC found the clue to the idol and now she doesn't trust her so Abi wants Pete to help her find the idol before RC does.  (Wow, do not trust the fiery Latina.)
-Pete doesn't trust RC now and he's looking to change up some alliances so he goes and talks to Lisa.  He sees Lisa as a weaker player he can use as a vote and he can easily get rid of later.  He tells Lisa that they were thinking of getting rid of her first but he'd rather blind side Mike and wants to know if she'd be willing to vote how he tells her.  Lisa says okay, but tells the camera she'd rather take out RC (Lisa is smart, she knows RC is the brains of the operation) but Lisa will go along with the cards she's dealt.
-Pete thinks it should be Mike, then RC and they'll take it from there.
Does anyone even remember the 6th person on this tribe - the black Mr. Clean... nope.  I'll have to look up his name later. [Artis].

Kalabaw - Red - Day 7
The tribe just noticed that the thing on top of the rice box lid is gone.  Jonathan plays dumb, "Oh, where'd that go now?"
-Baseball Jeff goes and tells Dawson and Carter that the top of the lid is missing and Carter says, "I bet that was the idol."  Jeff can just kick himself.  They looked at that thing and no one even thought twice, they bet Jonathan has it and Jeff can't even be mad, he gives him props, that is a veteran move right there.
-They hope they can still blindside Jonathan with the idol in his pocket if they don't lead-on that they figured out he has the idol and he isn't expecting them to vote him out first.

Matsing - Blue - Day 7
The shot opens on an empty raft seemingly out in the middle of the ocean - we come up to the beach and Denise says, "Hey, where's our raft?"  Oooh....noooo. (Way to go, that's a rookie mistake that Not-the-leader should have made sure didn't happen.)
-Denise and Malcolm confirm with each other that they are still an alliance and when/if the time comes to vote someone out again it will be between Russell and Angie.
-Denise is confident that Malcolm will still be loyal to their partnership and seems almost relieved that he had this public outing with Angie to take any suspicion off she and Malcolm as being in cahoots.  Denise seems to think he'll vote off Angie... I'm not so sure (boobs.)

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
It's out in the middle of the water... big raft with everyone on it - they must dive down to bring up puzzle wheels that are all attached to a line and submerged out in the water.  Once someone gets a wheel, they bring it back to the raft and the next person goes.  Once they have collected all 8 wheels(the last few wheels are down pretty deep, this is going to be difficult) they must feed the wheels on a horizontal pole like beads and then turn them so the letters on the wheels spell out a word (Treasure).  First two teams win immunity - first team gets a fishing kit including a canoe, second team gets a smaller fishing kit - last team gets to go to Tribal Council.

Red and Yellow both sit two women - off they go - Red & Yellow get their first piece and Angie is useless as usual (I think those floatation devices on her chest are making it impossible for her to stay submerged - I'm not joking) - they are way behind again.  (I don't see Matsing lasting much longer in this thing.) Oh, and Russell can't seem to climb the ladder to get out of the water - what the heck?
-Next thing I know, Mike Skupin is bleeding from the face - he says the diving mask shattered right in his face (how the heck did that happen?  Is this guy Survivor cursed or something?)
-The pieces are now getting pretty deep - RC is a machine, she gets 3 pieces in a row on her own.
-Russell comes up empty, he can't do it anymore - Denise is a strong swimmer, she and Malcolm are the only hope for Matsing but the other two tribes are done and working on the puzzle - while they are still collecting pieces - again.
-All tribes are working on the puzzle now, and... Red gets the word TREASURE, then Yellow gets the word... and Matsing is going back to Tribal Council for the third week in a row. (Oh, put them out of their misery -  already.)
Angie seems to think that Russell was clearly the weakest (yeah, you keep telling yourself that.)

Kalabaw - Red - Day 8
They return from their win at the Immunity Challenge and Jonathan, realizing that Baseball Jeff is leery of him decides to approach Jeff and confide in him that he, Jonathan, has the idol.  Jeff, clearly still mift that he didn't figure out the idol himself, says he appreciates Jonathan confiding in him and is willing to 'ride in his boat' if he must. (That really doesn't sound like an alliance agreement.)  Jeff tells the camera it's a Me game, not a We game and he's got to make sure he keeps his options open to do what's best for him.  He says he gave Jonathan a 4 finger handshake, meaning it doesn't count unless it's a full 5 finger manly shake (whatever, I'm starting to think Jeff's a douche.)

Tandang - Yellow - Day 8
We finally hear from Artis - he talks to the camera and let's his displeasure with Mike be known.  Mike dove face first with the mask and broke it, after telling Artis not to do that exact thing...Mike is in his (Artis') sites.
-Abi pulls Pete off with her and they start looking for the hidden immunity idol while the rest of the tribe is out looking for clams.  Abi finally thinks to pry the medallion off the rice basket and she yells "I found it!" (Really? I guess everyone was far enough away they didn't hear her but still...)
Abi runs right to Pete and shows/gives him the idol and now he thinks he's got this in the bag.  Abi is his right hand gal and he can get Lisa and Artis to do whatever he wants - so he can take out Mike and neutralize RC.

Matsing - Blue - Day 8
Dead tribe walking... Malcolm is feeling sorry for himself, being stuck on the goon tribe.  He thanks god for Denise, the munchkin of muscle - she commiserates with him - they can't believe Angie couldn't even get the first float and Russell couldn't get himself out of the water.  What the h*ll!
-Angie marches up to them and wants it noted that she never said she couldn't do it (run the tape back, she so did say that.)  Blah, blah, whine, whine - I'm the youngest and I'm trying hard...
-They reassure her that they thought Russ was pathetic today so they put her mind at ease but they're still not sure who's their best bet to go forward.
-Russell realizes he had a poor showing and he could be the one leaving if they decide to make a bold move and get rid of a strong player (dude, you're not that strong - you look strong, and you make talk strong, but the proof is in the pudding my friend.)  He prays - it may be God's plan that he only be there a brief time (again, I don't think God really takes much notice of Survivor.)
-Angie is talking to Malcolm and keeps going on about the challenge; that she didn't quit, she would have gone again but she would have been slow, then Denise just went... (just stop talking.)
-Malcolm says this is going to be the first tough vote for him, he hasn't talked strategy with Russell since day one and he has Angie in his pocket, he's not sure what's the better move for him.
-Then Angie said something to the camera but I find her clueless and annoying and I hope she goes.  She's going to try to put up a fight I think she said. (Who cares.)
-Russell is just off by himself all day - it didn't seem like he did any scrambling - he spent a lot of time talking with the camera it seems - he's got the weight of all his ancestors that struggled before him on his shoulders and giving him strength to persevere (come on man, it's just Survivor - he's a bit of a Drama Queen I think.)

TRIBAL COUNCIL
Then there will be three... Jeff asked them how big this is for them.
-Denise sacrificed time away from her husband and daughter as well as income from her practice and worry about her clients.  She's not going to just give up.
-Malcolm has wanted to be on the show since it started, when he was 12 (oof) - so it's more than a decade later and he's finally there and it's going this badly, he was between tears and screaming after the challenge today.  It's heartbreaking.
-Malcolm lays it out - not blaming anyone he says it was obvious who was suited for the challenge and who wasn't, they should have stepped up sooner rather than giving everyone a turn - those that can need to step up and those that can't need to go home.
-Angie is concerned it could be her going but she makes her weak argument saying she would have gone again but it was better for Denise to go since she was faster. (You are arguing that you were smart enough not to participate for the good of the team - so why do they need you?)
-She calls out Russell - says he couldn't get up the ladder and the second time he went in he gave up - I wouldn't have given up (you just didn't try) I'm a fighter.
-Russell's rebuttal is that he didn't quit, he made a strategic decision to stop what he was doing to give the tribe a chance to catch up.  Miss Angie cannot hold a candle to what he can offer the tribe going forward.  Thirty days left to go, she ain't ready, I am.
-She tries to spar with Russell but she's no match.  He says he was willing to die for this game last time he played, are you willing to do that? She almost giggles, Yes.  (Oh, that did it)  He rips her down about her revisionist history on the challenge - she didn't have the strength to get one piece out of 2ft of water, that's what happened - she was done.
-And he makes the little girl cry... (don't fall for it, be strong. Oh crap, now they feel bad for her.)
-They do agree she gave her all but she can't hold a candle to Russell.  Malcolm comes to her defense that she'd had to do more than the other young girls on the other tribes because of their situation (so what, she's still failing.)
-Denise says loyalty is important.  Malcolm says this vote is a balancing between strength and loyalty - they have to get to a point where they can win the game before loyalty becomes the deciding factor.  It's not something he thought they'd have to think about on day 8.

Time to vote:
Russell - votes for Angie - apologizes for making her cry but that's how the game is played (exactly!)
Angie - votes for Russell - I never give up (yeah, you keep telling yourself that.)

Tallying the votes:
No hidden idol (hey yeah!  Why hasn't Russell tried to find the idol?)
Angie -1
Russ - 1
Angie - 2, 3  - Angie is the 3rd person voted out of Survivor Philippines.  She doesn't seem too surprised and leaves like the beauty queen she is: Head high, boobs out and beaming smile.

So, with Angie's exit, the hopes of winning the pool are dashed for Ivor B, Susan M and Susan N.

Next week: Jeff Kent plays ball with Jonathan Penner and the fate of Matsing comes down to one defining moment - looks like the challenge may be intense.

Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone,

Coleen.

Oh crap, I forgot Angie's final words - It's sucks going home this soon - blah blah blah - I'm their biggest cheerleader - blah blah blah - I appreciate life so much more now (seriously? Ugh, I shouldn't have bothered.)
