Amazing Race 21 - Oct 7th Episode Recap

Long Hair, Don't Care

I was visiting family for Thanksgiving so I've only done a short form recap but I tried to hit the bright points.

The teams were told they had to head to Indonesia and that the winner of this leg would win the Express Pass.  Everyone went to the airport and got the same direct flight except for Monster truck, they decided to take a chance on a flight that left earlier but had a stop over in Hong Kong... they took the chance... but it didn't pay off.  Turned out it was a 4 hour layover so they ended up arriving last to Indonesia. (Yeah, might have been something they should have checked first... but Rob likes to ride by the seat of his pants - can't you tell by the hair?  That was sarcasm, his bluster kind of annoys me.)

The Rockers dudes, which the other teams called Long Hair, Don't Care, got a bit of a leg up by being the only team that made an earlier connection to their final destination city by going standby - someone said they'd have to start calling them Long Hair, DO Care - but as often happens, that didn't really make much difference either because they had to take numbers and wait until morning for the next task.

And that was to race bulls.  It was kinda weird.  The team members each had to ride behind a local driving a small motorcycle while they race a team of young bulls up a short track... there was no skill involved other than holding on - no one beat the bulls - but that didn't matter - as long as they did it, they got the next clue.

Everyone stayed in the same order when they went on to the ROADBLOCK - Who likes to party?
I just gotta say Phil had the cutest little girl with him during his explanation, dimples and Harry Potter glasses - so cute!
One team member has operate a pedal powered amusement ride with 4 little kids on it, and also has to make 4 balloon hats and 4 balloon animals for the kids on the ride... this separated the men from the boys (figuratively).   Rocker James was the first to go (the kids weren't too sure of him),
he had a hard time smacking his knees on the bar of the thing (Americans tend to be bigger people than the native Indonesians.)  The pedalling was no problem for anyone else, even the girl with prosthetic legs - it was the balloons that were the issue.
Lexi flew through the task the quickest and Lil Will could not get the hang of the balloons - he started to have almost a panic attack. Gary had to talk him down, he finally calmed down and got it done but they were way behind... and we had to hear them b*tching and moaning about how they blew their shot... (It's not over, sheesh Negative Nellies drive me crazy!)

Next clue directed them to Wijaya Motors to get their next clue - and eight of the ten teams seemed to find it no problem... two teams fell victim to one of the most deciding factors on the Race sometimes - the dreaded Lost Cab Driver!

At Wijaya Motors they got the clue to the DETOUR - Ice by the Pound: teams had to deliver ten 65lb blocks of ice from the ice factory to the marketplace. OR - Fish by the Barrel: at the market they have to sort 2 barrels of fish, arrange the fish correctly in the bins, smash the ice and set up the stall correctly.  Being a North American woman, I would not want to smell like fish all day - Ice seemed the only choice to me... and everyone else except the Twins.  Those Sri Lankan girls proved they had no problem getting down and dirty, one of them was even bent over head first in the barrel, getting her hair all soaked... but it paid off, they were the first team to get the clue to the Pit Stop.  Which was there in the market, they had to make their way on foot.

Bionic Amy & Daniel were one teams afflicted with a lost cab driver.  They finally got out of the cab, found someone on the street that gave them directions but they were so far away they had to get another cab to get back.  Monster truck was the other team and they were getting right nasty with their cab driver but he still wouldn't admit he was lost, finally they got out of that cab... and they ended up getting to Wijaya Motors at the same time as Gary & Will who had finally finished the balloons... the monster truckers were so relieved to see another team, realizing they were still in it. But Will & Gary, behind them still, think they are screwed.

Here's How They Finished:
1) Nadiya & Natalie - they give Phil a big hug - and his icy demeanor cracks a little - "Oh my God. You Stink!" Haha - they won the Express Pass.
2) Lexi & Trey - the twins hugged them too - Haha - sharing their stink with everyone.  Also, an unexpected pairing, the Twins and Texas (what they are calling Lexi & Trey) have struck up a friendship/alliance of a sort this leg, interesting.
3) James & Jaymes (Chippendales) - what a turn around for these two who were almost eliminated last leg.
4) Abbie & Ryan - first last leg but happy with 4th this time.
5) Josh & Brent - the goat farmers - felt being gay made the difference when it came to the balloon animals (uh...)
6) James & Abba - What happened to these two?  They can never hold onto a lead.
7) Caitlin & Brittany - they struggled through the ice task - good for them, it was really heavy for the girls alone.
8) Rob & Kelly (Monster Truck) - Except for him screaming at her there at the end, these two are kinda cute together.
9) Gary & Will - believing they were last they shlumped along, "I'm not running"... I kinda wished they were last.  They were so happy though.
10) Bionic Amy & Daniel - ELIMINATED - It was really sad, they just wanted to keep going.  They came in second on the first leg, I thought they were there for the long haul.  They were having such an awesome time on the race - they didn't want it to end.

So, with Amy & Daniel sadly being eliminated, Susan M, Kim B & Gail W, Tommy D, Kevin & Elaine R and Cheryl B are also out of the pool.

I hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Coleen
