The Amazing Race 27- Oct 2/15 Episode Recap

Get in There and Think Like a Dog

Last week was the premiere of the 27th Amazing Race, the beefcake Team Texas (Josh & Tanner)came in first place and Team TMZ (Kelly & Shevonne) was the first to be eliminated.

This episode started with the Green Team of Justin & Diana finally getting to meet everybody because they had been on their own for most of the first leg... and Justin's brashness immediately rubs the beefcake boys the wrong way.

-Team Texas, Josh & Tanner are the first team to head out at 9:40am the next day - they have to head to Buenos Aries, Argentina - the birthplace of Pope Francis.  When they arrive they have to search for their next clue at the church where Pope Francis was baptized.
-Team Texas is pumped to have the Express Pass, they are going to use it to their advantage in any way possible.
-Track Stars, Jazmine & Danielle, are the next team out at 9:44am - they are very happy with their showing in the first leg, made it known they are a strong all-girl team.

Every team is heading to a travel agency to get tickets to Argentina.  The other thing they all have to figure out is what church they have to go to once they get to Argentina.
-Chacattack is next, then Mother and Son, Denise & James Earl - they all get on the same flight at 8:25pm.

At the airport the Cousins, Alex & Adam use someone's smart phone to  research the church where The Pope was baptized. Basílica María Auxiliadora y San Carlos
-Looks like James Earl was able to borrow a laptop and he looked up the church with Justin & Diana looking over his shoulder - Justin immediately shouts it out, high fives Diana and decrees they won't share it with anybody else.
-Team Texas hears Justin saying that they got it and they slyly head nod James Earl over to give them the name of the church which he does with no hesitation, also Paparazzi Logan & Chris walk up at the same time and he's sharing with everybody.  This doesn't sit right with Justin who comes over and makes a snide remark about, "so much for our agreement."  Logan says she doesn't have an agreement with him, James Earl just ignores him all together and Josh has a gloating smirk on his face.  Justin just rubs him the wrong way, he's so outspoken and they know the Green Team is good so they want to take them out.

-Ernest & Jin are hilarious, they are doing a little hip swaying dance in unison, "Hi, welcome to the airport. Travel safe."  (You had to see it.)

-Finally they are flying to Buenos Aries and it's a race again to the church... which of course isn't open.  They have to grab numbers and when the church opens at 7:30am, they will be admitted in the order in which they arrived.  Justin & Diana are #1 (how do they always manage to be first?) Paparazzi Logan & Chris are #2, Josh & Tanner are #3 and not too happy to find out Justin was #1 again.

7:30am - They are allowed entry to the Basilica where a choir is singing beautifully - it's a gorgeous church - but a little odd in that the walls and columns are painted in red and white stripes, it reminded me a bit of an ornate big top...they walk through to a back room where the priest gives them their next clue - DETOUR:
Cartoneros - teams must pick up 100kg of cardboard from around the city like the cartoneros do to make a living.  There are only 8 carts available for this task.
Fleteros - pick up a statue from a local shop then transport it in pieces with one person in the back of the truck with the statue and one person in the cab of the truck directing the driver on where to go.  Once they get the statue reassembled in the gazebo or the park, they'll get their next clue.

Everyone chooses Cartoneros... Oh, paparazzi Chris chooses statues but then when they get outside changes to cardboard much to Logan's annoyance - just make up your mind!
-For Cardboard we have: Green Team, Team Texas, Chacattack, Paparazzi, the Cousins, the Dancers, Cheerleaders, Team Mom/Son, and Track Stars who are currently in last place (What the What?  How did that happen?  The Track Stars are my team in the pool, come on!)
-For the Statues - only The Reporters, Kelsey & Joey choose this one.

Carteneros - Team Texas & Team Green are neck & neck starting out the task - there are recycling bins all over the place, they are given a map of the area they can collect in - and off they go.  The first couple bins looked sparse for cardboard but we quickly see that the show has stuffed a few of the bins (why else would they be overflowing with bundles of pristine cardboard?)

-Joey & Kelsey get to the antique shop where they have to pick up the statue.  They call for a truck which comes right away - the statue comes apart in four easy pieces and then it's just a matter of getting directions to where they need to go.  Kelsey & Joey are very detail oriented being reporters and especially live reporters, they know the importance of getting things right the first time. (I think this task seemed totally simpler - is it just me?)

-Cartoneros - Texas cuts off Green Team on the way to the truck to get their loads weighed but Justin isn't too upset, it didn't look like they had enough in their cart.  After the first weighing, it becomes apparent they are going to have to fill the cart a few times to reach 100kg.
-Other teams keep arriving and I couldn't help but wonder if there is going to be enough cardboard for all of them to be able to gather 100kg (that's almost a ton of carboard... but, like I said, it looks like the show probably stocked the recycle bins.)  Of course, 8 teams doing this at once, competition is fierce at the bins.
-Cousins Adam & Alex get the last cart just before the Track Stars get there.  When the girls realize there are no carts left they whine, "This is not happening right now." And they just seem to stand around... (really? Get moving to the other task!)  They decide to go to the truck to see if there are more carts (what? The clue even told you there are only 8 carts... they may be fast but they don't seem all that swift if you know what I mean.)

-Justin stops while collecting cardboard to accept a drink from a local, Diana, who is still working, "Are you kidding me?" (I know right?)
-Finally teams are reaching the 100kg - Justin & Diana get the next clue to head to Bartolome Mitre - Josh & Tanner finish right behind them ... and run into the Track girls as they are leaving - the girls ask if there are carts down there and Tanner directs them where to find their cart - Huh, that was lucky, but do they really want to start this task after other teams have finished it?  I guess it is going pretty fast.

The Reporters are still in the truck - Kelsey is directing the driver and Joey's in the back, bored and cradling a head.

-The worst part of the Cartoneros task seems to be the smell, those bins are not always full of clean cardboard judging by the reactions of the teams - a few are pretty ripe.

Justin & Diana get to the next location and find the clue to the ROADBLOCK - Who wants to get sideways?
-One person will have to learn the steps to an Argentine Tango which includes rigging up and completing the routine while suspended sideways and dancing on the wall (what the???)  Diana will be doing this one.
-Josh & Tanner show up and it's the smaller one doing this (Tanner? I think).  Paparazzi get there and Chris dictates that Logan will be dancing and she seems excited when she reads they will have to dance sideways on the wall. (Yeah, this is crazy.)
-Diana is doing pretty well, concentrating and learning the steps.  Tanner, not so much, first he has to learn the female part... and he doesn't dance.

-The Reporters are finally getting to the park where they have to deliver the statue.

-All the other teams are running to get their cardboard weighed... and Cousin Alex drives their cart right into a motorcycle and knocks it over (oops.)
-Denise & James Earl are next to finish, followed by Team Chacattack.

-Kelsey & Joey get their statue assembled and get the clue to head for the Roadblock.

-The Cheerleaders finish the cardboard, followed by Ernest & Jin, Alex & Adam and finally Jazmine & Danielle.

-Roadblock - Cindy is doing the dancing for Chacattack - Kelsey will be dancing for the Reporters.
-Diana is the first to attempt the dance and she messes up right away... Tanner gets to try next and he's got two left feet.  But to add insult to injury, Justin is laughing at him to Josh, saying he [Justin] would be way better at this. (Yeah, you're a tool.)

-Mom & Son get there and she's making James Earl do the dancing.
-Logan makes an attempt at the dance and she's doing very well until it comes to the wall part and she gets all tangled up (oops).
-Diana makes her second attempt and passes with Justin hooting and hollering... which just rankles Tanner that mush more, "I can't stand 'em."

-Outside Justin & Diana read the clue to head to the Polo Stadium - the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.  They grab the cab that drops off the Cheerleaders and when Justin tells the girls it's a dancing challenge Krista squeals, she's a dancer and SO EXCITED!

-Tanner is trying his dance again... and messing up the footwork, again.
-Logan meanwhile, has it down - Paparazzi are the next to finish.
-Ernest & Jin show up and it's the bigger one - Jin - that is doing the dancing (they are both dancers so it should be easy, right? Krump translates to many styles, hahaha.)
-For the cousins, it's Alex, the wrestler, doing the dancing.

-Tanner still can't dance and the beefcake boys are getting disheartened.
-Cindy also fails her first attempt for team Chacattack.
-Tanner finally makes it up on the wall and they get a pass! Josh, "Twinkle toes, that's my dude."
-Cindy makes it on her second attempt and they head for the Pit Stop.

-Cheerleader Krista is enjoying learning the routine but even as a dancer she found the harness work tricky.
-Cousin Alex is the one afraid of heights so once he was on the wall he was terrified (oh, that doesn't bode well.)

-Out on the street, Josh & Tanner can't find a cab that knows where the Cathedral of  Polo is so they keep passing up cabs (huh?)

-James Earl is a Fred Astaire in the harness, he does great and they head out and grab a cab - passing Josh & Tanner who are still out on the street.
-The Track Stars finally show up and the taller one is doing the dancing (this will get easier for me once they tell me who is who - sheesh.) Oh, I found out it's Jazmine.

-Inside they are obviously making the teammate who is not doing the dancing talk to the camera and Cheerleader Tiffany tells the camera how into it Krista is and how they have been going through so much so they need this... (Umm, going through so much, like running the race, where everyone is going through the same thing? Okay.)
-Krista does prove that she has dance training though, actually making this look like a dance - and she passes easily.
-Kelsey is the next up, and she does a great job, finishing right behind the cheerleaders.
-Cousin Alex failed his attempt at the tango.
-Jin proves his dancing ability does translate and Ernest proclaims him the TangoMaster!  They head for the Pit Stop.
-Cousin Alex on his second attempt gets the routine down right and they get the clue to the Pit Stop.  Leaving my Track Stars as the last team at the Roadblock (How did this happen to my promising track girls?  I don't get it.)

-Dancers and Cousins are trying to find cabs that know where the Cathedral of Polo is (oh, could be the wording of the clue - they have to figure out it's referring to the Campo Argentino de Polo (Polo Stadium.)

-Jazmine makes her attempt at the dance and passes, and right away Danielle has their bags and is dragging her out the door - no time to put your shoes on even, we have got to go.  So poor Jazmine is running through the streets in bare feet trying to get a cab ahead of the Dancers and Cousins.

-All the teams get in cabs... of course we have no idea what order they may be in.  The Cousins hit some traffic.  The Dancers get dropped off a the wrong entrance...

 Here's How They Finished:
1) Justin & Diana - They won a trip to Morocco - and Justin is bugging me too - too much of a keener, crying again (ugh.)
2) Josh & Tanner - they got to the polo field at the same time as Denise & James Earl and Chris & Logan - and the boys sprinted to pass Denise & James Earl to get to the mat, with Tanner pulling his hamstring in the process - and they were still in second place. (Of course you were, you knew Justin & Diana were way ahead right? Team Texas is kind of pretty.) Tanner was upset he sacrificed a leg for 2nd place - duh!
3) Denise & James Earl - they just seem to be having a great time.
4) Chris & Logan - they had the most awkward, high-5/hug ever (I think she's over his high-handedness already.)
5) Cindy & Rick (Chacattack) - the polo guy with Phil said they'd have a short time of happiness when Phil told him they were newlyweds (I'm hoping that was a translation mistake because otherwise, what the hell?)
6) Tiffany & Krista - the Cheerleaders - Krista is still all smiles from her dancing and she gives the polo player a taste of the Tango. (Probably made his day.)
7) Kelsey & Joey - came in right behind the cheerleaders.
8) Jazmine & Danielle - the Track Stars - somehow they passed the Dancers and Cousins on the way to the Pit Stop - Way to go my girls!
9) Ernest & Jin - The brothers are crying - they don't have a home to go back to, they are each working like five jobs... but they are still in the race.
10) Alex & Adam - The Cousins - ELIMINATED - Alex is really pissed off they only got two legs... but they gave it their all - and couldn't be happier to have gone on the race.

And with Alex & Adam leaving that took Denise R., Alexis G., Sue S., Kevin R., and Bryon L. out of the pool.

Next week - the tension continues to build between Justin and Team Texas (because he's so annoying) and they're all dressed in polo gear so maybe staying in Argentina (?)

Have a great week everyone,

Coleen
