I Love Monkeys!
Last week an injured Dave & Connor were the first to the mat and Phil told them they were still racing... but will they continue?
-They read the clue that they are headed to Bali, Indonesia - once there they must make their way to the Monkey Forest where a monkey will reveal their next clue. Dave says they can't give up - yes, the pain has gotten progressively worse but you come in first place and you think - I can keep going.
-They've been in the top three each leg so far - Connor says if they can get another first place, that will really make the other teams look bad (you have no Express Pass left... let's see what Dad can do.)
2nd - Jessica & John are next to the Pit Stop -they take off the the airport.
3rd - Bates & Anthony (Hockey Players)
4th - Pam & Winnie (Asian girls)
5th - Joey & Meghan (You-Tubers)
6th - Caroline & Jennifer (Country Singers)
7th - Mona & Beth (Roller Derby Moms)
8th - Max & Katie (Newlyweds)
9th - Chuck & Wynona - they are the last team to arrive but they are still racing so not eliminated. They are disappointed in themselves but taking the second chance as a lucky break.
-Max & Katie ran inside at the Pit Stop and used a phone to call a travel agent and book tickets on a flight to Bali that will get them in at 8:30am the next day. They have to now go pick up the tickets at the travel agents before going to the airport (we'll see if that's an issue.)
-Dave & Connor are at the Flight Centre and they book tickets on the 8:30am arrival flight to Bali.
-Pam & Winnie also book tickets on that flight over the internet.
-At the airport John & Jessica and the You-tubers meet up and go to find ticket agents.
-Roller Derby Moms find out there are no ticket counters they have to find a travel agent. Hockey Brothers go to the same counter and find out the same thing - you can't buy tickets at the airport - have to find an agency.
-Country singers get tickets at an agency - Max & Katie breeze in, Caroline tries to tell them to get the same thing they got - Katie tells her they already have tickets, they called - and they breeze out again, tickets in hand.
-Joey & Meghan, John & Jessica are getting tickets that will get them to Bali at 12:05pm the next day. And it looks like the rest of them are getting this flight - Chuck & Wynona, Roller Moms & Hockey brothers.
-Once at their connection John & Jessica and Joey & Meghan were able to find another flight to Bali that will get them in at 10:35am.
Bali, Indonesia - the first flight arrives with Pam & Winnie, Dave & Connor, Country Singers and Max & Katie and they take off in taxis to the Monkey Forest. The clue tells them that they must choose a coconut, give it to a monkey and he'll reveal the next clue.
-The Country Singers' cab driver gives them flowers for their hair and they serenade him with a twangy Amazing Race ditty (they can sing.)
-Pam can't wait to see the monkeys and Winnie (as sweet as ever) "He better not, like, poo in our face." (Now I hope he does.)
-They all get to the Monkey Forest and Pam's a little scared, Caroline on the other hand, LOOOVES Monkeys, (she wants to hug it and squeeze it and call it George...) She tells us she's wanted a monkey her whole life, she's had a number of small animals and apparently a flying squirrel she used to keep in her bra... (huh?) But it died of loneliness (in her bra? That was the weirdest story.)
-They are all putting down coconuts for the monkeys and waiting for them to open them... Pam & Winnie, not so smart, they put their coconut right in the middle of the path and are telling the tourists to be quiet and not scare the monkeys away - why put it right in the middle of the path? I don't get it.
-Dave & Connor are the first to get the clue - a monkey ripped open their coconut and dropped the cylinder inside so the handler could retrieve it - they get the clue to the DETOUR: Sandy Bottom or Fruity Top
In Sandy Bottom: teams must collect sand from the bottom of the river (putting it into a basket balanced on their heads) then carry the full basket uphill for 200yrds to the brick maker - once they fill the container to the marked line, they will get their next clue (so they may have to make more than one trip - yeah, Dave could not do this one.)
Fruity Top: requires teams to construct an elaborate religious offering (made with fruit and flowers among other things) - once complete it will be carried in a traditional procession to the temple where it will be blessed by a priest and once it's placed on the [altar] they will get their next clue.
-Obviously, Dave and Connor are doing Fruity Top, they had no choice.
-The rest of the teams start to get their clues for the Detour as well, and it seems all of them think Fruity Top is the way to go (huh, I don't think this will be as easy as they hope.)
2nd flight arrives with John & Jessica and the You-Tubers - they know they are right in the middle of the pack so they aren't sweatin' it and are taking in Bali. Joey & Meghan are already thankful for their alliance with John & Jessica (they are enjoying riding their coat tails this leg anyway.)
The first flighters all get to the temple where they have to build their offerings, but first they have to put on a sarong. Then they all start counting the fruit on the example offering (they have to recreate it exactly) and gathering their materials. Pam is a set designer so she thinks she has this in the bag (I'm waiting for it to blow up in her face.)

And then they, thankfully, only showed us a couple seconds of Joey doing an annoying play-by-play of the monkey ripping open the coconut (he would seriously drive me insane - stop trying to be a STAR! And yes, that was with Jazz Hands.)
Last flight lands and the Hockey Brothers, Roller Moms and Mullet & Wife all jump in cabs for the Monkey Forest.
John & Jess and Joey & Meghan get the Detour clues from their coconuts and both decide to the Fruity Top (wow, lots of offerings today.)
It appears the Hockey Brothers drew the short stick when it came to cab drivers - the other two teams are at the Monkey Forest and the Hockey Player's driver is just driving. "You know where you're going?" "Yeah, yeah, yeah" (oh no, no, no.) He has to stop and ask directions (that's not good.)
Chuck retrieves the cylinder from the coconut, "It's a whistle." He says. No, it's not a whistle (at least she has some brains) she gets the clue and they decide to do Fruity Top - figuring he'll be good at it, like putting his deer heads back together (oh yeah, his hobby is taxidermy - gross.)
Meanwhile, at the Fruity Top, Pam & Winnie show they have the eye for detail and get the first okay - Max & Katie get a "no" which Katie is not very happy about - Dave & Connor also get an "okay" and Dave hugs the little Indonesian woman.
-Pam & Winnie are struggling to carry the offering (it's apparently pretty heavy) out to the street where a little Indonesian woman pops it on her head (uh, okay). They start the procession and Dave & Connor come out and another woman puts their offering on her head and they follow along as well.
Pam & Winnie are the first team to the temple, they get their offering blessed and place it on the altar, they thought it was the best cultural experience they've ever had. They get the clue: Route Info: they have to make their way to Uluwatu Surf Beach and search for their next clue.
-Dave & Connor are right behind them.
John is saying he's very detail oriented so he thinks the Fruity top will be right up his alley (but he's always got that car salesman toothy grin, I just don't trust him.)
-Max & Katie have finished their offering they join the procession - everyone is so shocked that the women carry that heavy offering on their head.
-John & Jessica are taken to the wrong place, they basically walk in to someone's home, the poor guy doesn't speak English, they see he has flowers set out and some small offerings arranged and think this is what they need to do ... the poor guy is looking at them like, why are these crazy white people making offerings? Finally they realize they are in the wrong place when (it looks like a delivery man who speaks English tells them they have to go to house #2...) Yup, they were just in some strangers backyard.
-John & Jess make it to the right place and are glad to see the You-Tubers are there as well.
-Finally the Hockey brothers have made it to the Monkey Forest and their monkey takes the coconut off into the trees... now what?
-The Roller Moms have decided to do Sandy Bottom - they figure it's more like grunt work and they're good at that. They get down to the river and see the women demonstrating digging the sand off the bottom while balancing a huge basket on your head... they made it look easy - it is not.
-At Fruity Top - John is saying this plays right into his anal retentive nature - Joey is saying they are used to building their own cosplay costumes just from pictures so they should be good at this - and the Mullet & Wife arrive and are happy to see other teams there.
Back at Monkey land, the Hockey Players are not happy to be in last place - they get the Detour clue and decide to do Sandy Bottom but when they show the clue to their horrible cab driver, he doesn't know where it is - so they switch to Fruity top.
-Pam & Winnie get to the surf beach and find the cluebox right away - ROADBLOCK: Who's ready to get totally tubular?
-One team member must go to the surf shop and search for a surfboard with an image on it they've encountered before (the Tahitian priest that blessed them in Bora Bora) - once they find the surf board they have to pick up their partner and head for the Pit Stop - they have to have the right board to be able to check in. If they don't have the right board, they'll have to run all the way back to the surf shop and try again.
-Winnie is going to do the Roadblock - there are lots of stairs and hills involved getting to the surf shop and over to the Pit stop, this could be a challenge for Hop-along Dave.
-Dave & Connor are the next team to the clue box and obviously Connor is doing the Roadblock - they don't know how much longer they'll be in the Race but they're going to keep at it as long as they can (eventually Dave's going to have to do a task and then they're sunk.)
-Winnie finally gets down to the surf shop and she finds the board right away - "this looks like the priest that gave us a blessing for safe travels on the second leg." (Look at the memory on Winnie.)
-Connor passes her going back up and he's now looking for a familiar something on the boards.
-Max & Katie get to the Roadblock and he's going to do it - and the Country singers - Caroline is going to do it (the shorter one.)
-Back at Sandy Bottom - The Roller Derby Moms have filled their baskets as heavy as they can on the first run - they dump the baskets in the container and it's not full enough, back down they go.
-John & Jessica get a 'no' on their offering - John says they should see it as an opportunity (oh shut it, this guy must have gone to some positive thinking self-help seminars, he has the Tony Robbins teeth even) she tells him it needs to be fatter and they should just start over...but first he says, "well, I don't know who did this..." (seriously dude, Mr. Detail-Oriented, YOU did it, and poorly.)
-The Hockey Brothers show up at the Fruity Top and are so happy to see other teams still there - now they at least have someone in their sites.
-Winnie can't find Phil and comes back to the surf shop - she tries to strike a deal with Connor that they look for the Pit Stop together if he lets the girls finish first - he says no, so fine, she's not going to help him find the board. Then she starts looking around the hillside for Phil and Connor follows her and peeks at the picture on her board (Oh Winnie, you have to be more cautious than that - obviously Connor is in it to win it.)
-Winnie is wandering aimlessly along the beach, she can't find the way to the Pit Stop (For smart girls, they're really directionally challenged.)
-Connor grabs the board and heads back up to Dad and they hobble on down to Phil. (Now that wasn't so hard.)
-Max finds the board by recognizing the guy that married him & Katie (Married, really?)
-And Caroline is now searching through the boards.
-Back at Fruity Top - Joey & Meghan finish their offering successfully and John & Jess' is a mess - they are fighting. It's not right and it's his fault and she's a sour sally... even suggests they switch task (which would be horrible for them at this point). But they are going to do it, switch tasks. In the car he wants to be smart and steady, she suggests they use the Express Pass - he says he's not even thinking that right now. (Huh, really?)
-Chuck & Wynona have completed their offering successfully as well. (Taxidermy has it's advantages I guess) and Chuck is hoping they can knock Bates & Anthony out on this one - they are really killing them on the physical challenges.
-Caroline isn't quite sure what they meant by "encountered" on the race - she grabs a board that says Bali, "we've all encountered Bali." (Oh no.)
-John & Jess strategize in the cab, if they get to the Sandy Bottom and the derby girls are still there, they'll have to decide what to do by how far they've gotten.
-Then they show the Derby girls just finishing the task - they get the clue to head to the surfing beach and jump in a cab.
-Country Singers get to Phil and he tells them it's not the right board, they have to go back. Jen is worried Caroline thinks it's something they've all 'seen' when it's 'encountered'... and Caroline grabs a board with a surfer on it, "We've all seen surfers." (NOOooo!)
-Caroline has herself a little cry when Phil tells them no again.
-Joey & Meghan are taken to the wrong surf beach. They start hoofing it to the right one.
-Roller Moms are in the cab, exhausted, ruminating on the fact that they've been at this leg for 4 days now - it's got to be the longest leg ever! But there's no crying on the Amazing Race.
-And they show Caroline, crying. "I'm just so tired." (And Dad/Dave has cried every leg, what-chu takin' about Beth?)
-Joey & Meghan are running up the hill when Chuck & Wynona pass them in a cab - they all get to the clue box and Chuck and Joey are doing the surfboards.
-John & Jessica get to the Sandy Bottom and she wants to use the Express Pass but he says no, we can do this one, it's a dream come true as opposed to building the ridiculous offering (Really? I don't think John is thinking so clearly right now.)
-Hockey Brothers finish the offering and are heading for the surf beach.
-Roller Moms are at the surf beach. Mona is doing this one.
-Chuck has chosen a board with a girl with fruit in a basket and a head wrap... but he can't find his way up to Wynona & Phil.
-John & Jessica deliver their first load of sand and she's whining her neck hurts (I'm sure it does... but there's no whining on the Amazing Race - Ha!)
-Hockey brothers get to the Roadblock and Bates is searching the boards.
-Joey finds a board and thinks he's met that guy... Mona takes one quietly... but she's wrong.
-Chuck is still running around, mullet flying, and Wynona can't call out, she's willing him to look UP!
-Bates finds the right board but he's not sure and keeps looking (Argh!)
-Chuck if finally on the right path back up to Phil, Mona passes him on her way back down - but he has the wrong board.
-Bates has a board but he also can't find his way to Phil - follow Chuck & Mona... he sees them but doesn't follow - Oh COME ON.
-John & Jessica get to the Roadblock and in the cab they said they might just use the Express Pass but then it sounds like it could be surfing, which he's good at, so they are going for it - (You guys are last, USE THE DAMN PASS!)
-John & Chuck are the last two, looking through the boards. Chuck chooses one and takes off - John is talking to the camera, trying to think of ways of being more efficient (I know, why not use the Express Pass before you get eliminated!?) Jess feels sick seeing Chuck & Wynona running off - they could be going home.
-John is in the dark, refusing to give up. He comes back up to Jessica, says he doesn't recognize anything on the boards but he believes there is a team behind them. "Who? Everyone is here." (Yup, he's gone off the deep end.) He grabs the wrong board, Phil says no, he tries to look at the other boards with Phil, "you're not allowed to look at those boards." He goes back, it's just the principle of the thing now - he won't give up.
1hr and 15 minutes later - he finally finds the right board.
Here's How They Finished:
1) Dave & Connor - They won $5000 each... and crying Dad is so proud of his opportunist son.
2) Pam & Winnie - She couldn't find the marked path...
3) Max & Katie - She actually smiled - it is possible.
4) Caroline & Jennifer (Country Singers) - Caroline just guessed, grabbed a board with some guy on it and it was the priest from Bali (lucky!)
5) Joey & Meghan - they got the right board and the Roller Moms had the wrong one at the same time - so Joey showed them his board (they are honouring their alliance and want to help them out.)
6) Mona & Beth (Roller Moms) - Chuck & Wynona come in right with them but with the wrong board and they don't show them the right board - Phil says, you're not showing them? No. (Oh, come on, Save the Mullet!)
7) Bates & Anthony - Way to go Hockey players!
8) Chuck & Wynona - and the mullet squeaked through again.
9) John & Jessica - **ELIMINATED** - Phil tells them they are the first team to be eliminated with an Express Pass. John makes some stupid speech about 'regretting past decisions he has no control over now doesn't make sense to him' (Blah, blah, blah - you made bad decisions, take responsibility, then move on... oh, no, I'm sure in his mind it was her fault.) For her, it's going to be really hard to get over. John says he has zero regrets. Phil, "Oy vey!" (Oh Phil, you funny.)
So, with 'No Regrets' John & poor Jessica leaving, that takes Denise R, Lois & Dave L, Lynne B, Donna P and Vikki M out of the pools. But No Regrets, right people? Haha.
I didn't get any preview of next week on my recording so we'll be going in blind next week.

-Back at Sandy Bottom - The Roller Derby Moms have filled their baskets as heavy as they can on the first run - they dump the baskets in the container and it's not full enough, back down they go.
-John & Jessica get a 'no' on their offering - John says they should see it as an opportunity (oh shut it, this guy must have gone to some positive thinking self-help seminars, he has the Tony Robbins teeth even) she tells him it needs to be fatter and they should just start over...but first he says, "well, I don't know who did this..." (seriously dude, Mr. Detail-Oriented, YOU did it, and poorly.)
-The Hockey Brothers show up at the Fruity Top and are so happy to see other teams still there - now they at least have someone in their sites.
-Winnie can't find Phil and comes back to the surf shop - she tries to strike a deal with Connor that they look for the Pit Stop together if he lets the girls finish first - he says no, so fine, she's not going to help him find the board. Then she starts looking around the hillside for Phil and Connor follows her and peeks at the picture on her board (Oh Winnie, you have to be more cautious than that - obviously Connor is in it to win it.)
-Winnie is wandering aimlessly along the beach, she can't find the way to the Pit Stop (For smart girls, they're really directionally challenged.)
-Connor grabs the board and heads back up to Dad and they hobble on down to Phil. (Now that wasn't so hard.)
-Max finds the board by recognizing the guy that married him & Katie (Married, really?)
-And Caroline is now searching through the boards.
-Back at Fruity Top - Joey & Meghan finish their offering successfully and John & Jess' is a mess - they are fighting. It's not right and it's his fault and she's a sour sally... even suggests they switch task (which would be horrible for them at this point). But they are going to do it, switch tasks. In the car he wants to be smart and steady, she suggests they use the Express Pass - he says he's not even thinking that right now. (Huh, really?)
-Chuck & Wynona have completed their offering successfully as well. (Taxidermy has it's advantages I guess) and Chuck is hoping they can knock Bates & Anthony out on this one - they are really killing them on the physical challenges.
-Caroline isn't quite sure what they meant by "encountered" on the race - she grabs a board that says Bali, "we've all encountered Bali." (Oh no.)
-John & Jess strategize in the cab, if they get to the Sandy Bottom and the derby girls are still there, they'll have to decide what to do by how far they've gotten.
-Then they show the Derby girls just finishing the task - they get the clue to head to the surfing beach and jump in a cab.
-Country Singers get to Phil and he tells them it's not the right board, they have to go back. Jen is worried Caroline thinks it's something they've all 'seen' when it's 'encountered'... and Caroline grabs a board with a surfer on it, "We've all seen surfers." (NOOooo!)
-Caroline has herself a little cry when Phil tells them no again.
-Joey & Meghan are taken to the wrong surf beach. They start hoofing it to the right one.
-Roller Moms are in the cab, exhausted, ruminating on the fact that they've been at this leg for 4 days now - it's got to be the longest leg ever! But there's no crying on the Amazing Race.
-And they show Caroline, crying. "I'm just so tired." (And Dad/Dave has cried every leg, what-chu takin' about Beth?)
-Joey & Meghan are running up the hill when Chuck & Wynona pass them in a cab - they all get to the clue box and Chuck and Joey are doing the surfboards.
-John & Jessica get to the Sandy Bottom and she wants to use the Express Pass but he says no, we can do this one, it's a dream come true as opposed to building the ridiculous offering (Really? I don't think John is thinking so clearly right now.)
-Hockey Brothers finish the offering and are heading for the surf beach.
-Roller Moms are at the surf beach. Mona is doing this one.
-Chuck has chosen a board with a girl with fruit in a basket and a head wrap... but he can't find his way up to Wynona & Phil.
-John & Jessica deliver their first load of sand and she's whining her neck hurts (I'm sure it does... but there's no whining on the Amazing Race - Ha!)
-Hockey brothers get to the Roadblock and Bates is searching the boards.
-Joey finds a board and thinks he's met that guy... Mona takes one quietly... but she's wrong.
-Chuck is still running around, mullet flying, and Wynona can't call out, she's willing him to look UP!
-Bates finds the right board but he's not sure and keeps looking (Argh!)
-Chuck if finally on the right path back up to Phil, Mona passes him on her way back down - but he has the wrong board.
-Bates has a board but he also can't find his way to Phil - follow Chuck & Mona... he sees them but doesn't follow - Oh COME ON.
-John & Jessica get to the Roadblock and in the cab they said they might just use the Express Pass but then it sounds like it could be surfing, which he's good at, so they are going for it - (You guys are last, USE THE DAMN PASS!)
-John & Chuck are the last two, looking through the boards. Chuck chooses one and takes off - John is talking to the camera, trying to think of ways of being more efficient (I know, why not use the Express Pass before you get eliminated!?) Jess feels sick seeing Chuck & Wynona running off - they could be going home.
-John is in the dark, refusing to give up. He comes back up to Jessica, says he doesn't recognize anything on the boards but he believes there is a team behind them. "Who? Everyone is here." (Yup, he's gone off the deep end.) He grabs the wrong board, Phil says no, he tries to look at the other boards with Phil, "you're not allowed to look at those boards." He goes back, it's just the principle of the thing now - he won't give up.
1hr and 15 minutes later - he finally finds the right board.
Here's How They Finished:
1) Dave & Connor - They won $5000 each... and crying Dad is so proud of his opportunist son.
2) Pam & Winnie - She couldn't find the marked path...
3) Max & Katie - She actually smiled - it is possible.
4) Caroline & Jennifer (Country Singers) - Caroline just guessed, grabbed a board with some guy on it and it was the priest from Bali (lucky!)
5) Joey & Meghan - they got the right board and the Roller Moms had the wrong one at the same time - so Joey showed them his board (they are honouring their alliance and want to help them out.)
6) Mona & Beth (Roller Moms) - Chuck & Wynona come in right with them but with the wrong board and they don't show them the right board - Phil says, you're not showing them? No. (Oh, come on, Save the Mullet!)
7) Bates & Anthony - Way to go Hockey players!
8) Chuck & Wynona - and the mullet squeaked through again.
9) John & Jessica - **ELIMINATED** - Phil tells them they are the first team to be eliminated with an Express Pass. John makes some stupid speech about 'regretting past decisions he has no control over now doesn't make sense to him' (Blah, blah, blah - you made bad decisions, take responsibility, then move on... oh, no, I'm sure in his mind it was her fault.) For her, it's going to be really hard to get over. John says he has zero regrets. Phil, "Oy vey!" (Oh Phil, you funny.)
So, with 'No Regrets' John & poor Jessica leaving, that takes Denise R, Lois & Dave L, Lynne B, Donna P and Vikki M out of the pools. But No Regrets, right people? Haha.
I didn't get any preview of next week on my recording so we'll be going in blind next week.
