Choir Boy at Heart
Last week Nicole and Travis successfully "negotiated" the 2nd Express Pass from Marie & Tim - who then ended up using their own pass and barely squeaking in first place. Also the Afghanimals and the Bearded Boys were U-Turned, which proved to be the demise of the Beards (Brandon & Adam.)
Tim & Marie are the first to depart from Poland at 8:33am - the clue tells them to take the train to Vienna, Austria - once there they must make their way to the opera house, meet Rigoletto who will escort them to the costume room and give them their next clue (Costumes!)
-Tim & Marie say they are happy with the way they used the Express Pass to keep themselves in first place and they wait for Jason & Amy (J-amy) who are a minute behind them. Amy says they have been 2nd three legs in a row and they are feeling like it's their time to come in first.
-Dr.s Travis & Nicole also a minute behind 8:35am are relieved to have the 2nd Express Pass as a cushion going forward. All three teams jump in cabs and head for the train station.
-Baseball Wives - 8:48am - they did great last leg - it wasn't super physical so they did well and feel they have a shot at winning.
-Okies, Tim & Danny - 8:51am - they made an aggressive move U-Turning the Afghanimals and they are okay with it - they could really use a million bucks.
-These first 5 teams are going to be on the same train arriving in Vienna at 6:40am the following day.
-10:10am - Afghanimals head out - they ended up U-Turning the Beards last leg and they felt bad about it but in the end, they are in it to win it. (And it worked out for them.)
-10:18am - Ice girls, Ally & Ashley are the last team to depart - they hope they can make it to the end and surprise everybody (I'm not holding my breath... but then you never know on this Race.)
-The last two teams are on a later train heading out the first leg of the train ride but there is a layover in Warsaw and they will catch up putting all the teams on the same train into Austria.
-The first 5 teams are not too happy when they see the Afghanimals in the Warsaw station and, to add insult to injury, Leo & Jamal totally lie - boldface lie - to everyone about U-Turning Brandon & Adam. Marie says, "You are such liars. We know you U-Turned them." Nope they are sticking with the lie... (but why? I don't understand. All the other teams know they are lying so it just makes them look that much worse... not how to make friends or influence people... or win a million dollars. Sheesh.)
Vienna, Austria - they are off the train and running for taxis. Then off to the Opera House - everyone arrives basically together and they go inside to see Rigoletto who leads them through the amazing theatre to the costume room and hands out clues to the DETOUR and a Fast Forward.
DETOUR: Light Brigade or Masquerade
In Light Brigade: they must dress up as court servants (white wigs, period clothes and gloves) then correctly assemble a crystal chandelier. If they complete it correctly they get the clue, if not, the chandelier will be dropped and smashed (so do they get to try again? It was unclear.)
In Masquerade: they must wear elaborate masks with only subtle differences then join a masked ball where the dancers are wearing masks with only slight differences - they must find the dancers wearing the same masks that the team is wearing to get their next clue.
Fast Forward: Donautrum - teams must make their way to the highest structure in Vienna, the Donautrum (it's a tower of some kind) they don't tell us what they'll have to do, but it is weather dependent. The Doctors and Jason & Amy are going for the FF. Everyone else is going to do the Masquerade.... in the cab Dr.s Travis & Nicole decide that since Jason & Amy are already ahead of them they are just going to head to the Masquerade instead.
Fast Forward: Jason & Amy see the tower thing and realize it's probably bungee jumping... and yes, they must each make a 500ft bungee jump to earn the FF. Amy is freaking out... (You can always buy new underwear with the million) but when they get to the top they are told it's too windy for them to safely jump. They can wait 10-15 minutes and see if the wind eases... Jason wants to abandon the FF but Amy wants to wait it out (she is so focused on coming in first she doesn't want to give up the possibility.) He thinks it's dumb but he's waiting.
At the Masquerade - Tim & Marie are the first team to find their matching masks and they get the clue to make their way to the Wiener Sangerknaben (I don't know) - but they go outside and can't find a cab.
-Leo & Jamal find their masks and get a cab right away. Ice girls also find their masks.
-Amy & Jason are still arguing and he finally convinces her that they have to abandon the FF and go do the Detour - she's not happy about it.
-Okies find their masks and leave - Doctors get their matches and a taxi - I don't know where Tim & Marie took off to, but they are still cab-less and she can't believe this is happening to them (Race karma maybe?) But they finally find a cab and take off.
-Amy & Jason get to the Masquerade and everyone is gone - they know they are in trouble.
Wiener Sangerknaben - Afghanimals and Ice girls are the first teams to get the clue to the ROADBLOCK: Who's a choir boy at heart?
Teams must join the Vienna boys choir and learn to sing Die Forelle by Franz Schubert (really? Why do they want to torture us so? Haha.) They will be judged on their pronunciation of the German lyrics and their musicality... when the choirmaster thinks they've put on a great show, they'll get their next clue.
-Jamal and Ally are going to be singing... Jamal doesn't do too badly with the pronunciation even though he's never spoken a word of German before - Ally, on the other hand, is foreign language deaf or something - oy.
-Baseball wives show up and Nicky is doing this one - the language wasn't a problem, her dad is Czech and speaks German... but, in her own words, "Literally, I could not have a worse voice." (And she wasn't kidding. Ouch.)
-Okies, Doctors and Marie & Tim show up - Okie Tim is horrible (he sings as well as he dances), Travis actually has a pretty good voice ... Tim & Marie are running around the palace looking for the clue.
-Jason & Amy, back at the Masquerade, have found their matches and head for the Roadblock... they're really hoping they can catch up.
-Tim (of Marie & Tim) is also joining the choir and he is also horrible.
-Jason & Amy show up at the Roadblock and are relieved to see that everyone is still there. Amy goes up to learn the song and Jason goes down to wait with everyone else. Nicole is asking him about the FF and he tells them it was bungee jumping and it was too windy for them to go - first to last again, just like that. Amy proves a quick study on the song - we'll see how this shakes out.
-Travis is the first to perform... he does okay for a few bars but then stumbles on the words and the choirmaster tells him to stop and go practice some more.
-Jamal is next - and he's such a ham... when he starts to flub the words he just keeps going, making it up as he goes... but that is a fail.
-Ally - fail (I think I heard dogs howling at the screeching.)
-Okey Tim - still practicing - still sucking - his instructor is trying everything - Pretend you're Justin Timberlake - Pretend you're an opera singer - lay on the floor - slap yourself in the face (he's just punishing him now.) They still have a ways to go (why did they give the guy with no musicality what-so-ever this task?)
-(Tim & Marie) Tim is the next to try it - he did make it further than anyone else but he still failed.
-Nicky - she does the best on the words but there is no melody... (I think everyone is going to be there all day.)
-Travis is giving it a 2nd attempt - he lowered it an octave so he could hit the high notes... and it worked! He got a 'pretty good' and the clue - make their way to Schondrunn Palace and search the garden maze for their next clue. They had their cab waiting so they could just leave.
-Nicky's second attempt - it was... acceptable... and they get the next clue. Jamal looks like he can't believe it (whatever dude, she can't sing but she took it seriously, unlike some people.) Nicky & Kim go to get in a cab but Jason & Amy's bags are in it and they can't touch another teams bags... but the cab driver doesn't want to wait anymore so he pulls their bags out... still Nicky & Kim want nothing to do with that, and they go to find another cab.
-Okie Tim is making his debut attempt - and he's told it's terrible (it really was) - he has to go practice more. His partner, Danny, "We're going to lose." (He twisted his ankle and has it raised, I think that's why he didn't take this task... but you don't need an ankle to sing - he should have stepped... or hopped up.)
-Jamal goes again - and he gets a very good! Then picks up the choirmaster like an idiot... they are third heading to the maze.
-Marie & Tim - Tim passes his 2nd attempt and Marie says "okay, let's go steal somebody's cab." And they do, they take Jason & Amy's cab. Marie is trying to coach Tim to lie and blame it on the Afghanimals but they have the name Pinky and No Brains for a reason (and it's not just her pink hair.)
-The cab driver realizes he's taken the wrong team but they assure him it's all good - we're all blue, it's fine (lie, upon lie...)
-Amy passes her attempt and they are now in fifth place, leaving the Ice girls and Okies the only two still trying to sing.
-Jason & Amy see their bags on the grass and she doesn't get it, how did their cab just leave? No, someone stole their taxi and she says when she finds out who did it, she's going to Flip Out!
Schonbrunn Palace - Doctors enter the maze followed by the baseball wives... and it's a maze... some wrong turns are made and the baseball wives are the first ones to the clue box - it tells them to head to the Pit Stop, the Gloriette (centrepiece of the garden.)
-The baseball wives run back out to the gate to ask where the Gloriette is but Nicole & Travis ask inside the palace so they don't have quite so far to run - it's up on the hill... (I'm tired just watching.)
-The Afghanimals make short work of the maze and figure the Gloriette must be up the hill (huh, they're not stupid, they just act that way.)
Back at the Choir/singing Roadblock - Ally fails on her second attempt and Tim is feeling demoralized just practicing. Both these teams are losing all hope.
Taxi drama - Jason & Amy get to Schonbrunn Palace and see their former cab waiting there - Jason runs over and sees it's Tim & Marie's bags in the back of the taxi - so they know who stole their cab... They can't believe their 'friends' screwed them.
Choirboy challenge - Okie Tim makes his 2nd attempt and murders it...not in a good way. Ally is just as bad. 3rd attempts, 4th attempts... finally Ally makes it! She gets an acceptable and they head out.
Okie Tim - feels bad cause he's last but Danny is encouraging and finally he gets the pity pass - they are the last team heading for the Pit Stop... but not too far behind the girls.
Here's How They Finished:
1) Doctors Travis & Nicole: they won a trip to Anguilla. Apparently their nickname is Power Parents... snoring.
2) Nicky & Kim (Baseball wives) - you go bunnies.
3) Leo & Jamal (Afghanimals)
4) Marie & Tim - still on the mat when J & A arrive... Marie, "we're in trouble." Awkward!
5) Jason & Amy - Phil says they snuck up on them and Jason says, funny, some other people could be called "Sneaky"... And they had words... Marie says they don't know what they would have done in their same positions but Amy yells back that they do know, they didn't steal anyone's cab, they went out to the street and hailed another one. Marie, we've been friendly with them but, at the end of the day, it's a race for a million dollars. Jason said it doesn't matter, he knows they're the better team and they're going to kick their asses. (Alliance done!)
6) Ally & Ashley - huge relief
7) Tim & Danny - ***ELIMINATED*** Tim had high expectations but for never having left the States before, he thinks they made it pretty dang far. They had a great time and have amazing memories that will last them a lifetime. (Aw, I'll miss the Okies, they were genuinely nice boys... who can't sing or dance to save their lives :))
And with Tim & Danny's elimination, that takes Ian G., Katie L., Chandra K., Shelley A. and Shane B. out of the pool.
Next week - teams head to Abu Dhabi and ride in race cars. Also Marie is in full on "Marie" mode, driving everyone crazy, Tim says she has serious mental problems (Uh oh, that doesn't bode well.)
