Survivor Caramoa Fans vs Favourites - May 12, 2013 Finale Recap

Finale - It's late, I'm tired, no edit just post... I'll fix it later (maybe ;))

Last episode Dawn & Cochran blindsided Brenda in one of the saddest exits ever, Brenda was hurt and left in tears.
But before they could even get back to camp - the game took another player when Erik was too dizzy and weak to walk, they brought in the medical team and they made the call that Erik could not continue - so the ice cream scooper, who made one of the most famous mistakes in Survivor history the last time he played, was denied redemption again. (Though I would argue he did play much smarter this time, he should have just come in with a little more meat on his bones to carry him through. Give that poor boy a sandwich.) So with Erik went the hopes and dreams of Susan N, Robyn A and Annemette J.
That leaves the final 4 as:
Sherri: the only Fan to successfully infiltrate Stealth R Us (I contend that is because Phillip 'liked' her and no one saw her as a threat). She thinks that everyone has underestimated her.  With Sherri are: Chandra K, Ivor B and Roxanne S.
Eddie: the sole amigo standing who charmed and, let's face it, dim-witted his way to the final 4 - did he play the better game by not dominating challenges and not being in your face guy... or is he just not that good at challenges and not that smart? With Eddie are: Bernice R, Lynne B and Bryon L.
Cochran: the survivor nerd has transformed into an all-around threat.  He has played the game the best in my opinion, and how can I not root for the nerd - under-dog all the way!  With Cochran are: Ryan H, Robert L and Fred & Gary M.
Dawn: the crying wonder - she has battled her emotions (that's an understatement) but she also was the instrument of a lot of people's demise, everyone saw her as weak and tried to use her vote - but once she knew their plans, she took them out... then freaked out and cried. With Dawn are: Drew C, Shane B and Katie L.

Enil Edam - Night 36
Erik's abrupt departure has given Eddie new hope - he thought for sure he was going home but now, it could be his game for the taking.  And Eddie proved he's not as dimwitted as I thought when his EMT training came out and he was able to explain to Erik everything they were doing for him (look at the medical training on Eddie!)
They return to camp two people less and it's a somber affair - there is some chit chat about how sad Erik's departure was but... Cochran is thinking about the game - he's more pumped than ever that he's made it to the final four.  His first thought is that he has to be the first to get to Eddie.  Eddie is the one most likely to win the next immunity challenge and therefore the one that will have to power to determine who goes to the final three... Next shot is Cochran & Eddie talking, their best shot is to take Sherri with them to the final three and they shake on it (oh, that was easy.)
-Eddie tells the camera the way he sees it they get rid of Dawn, Cochran comes in second and Eddie wins the million dollars (hmm, I don't see why he'd want to take Cochran to the end, but I like Cochran so I'm okay with that.  Maybe I have given Eddie too much mental credit.)

Enil Edam - Day 37
Tree Mail - they are so excited that the clue is to a Reward challenge - to win an extra edge, they are going to have to dig deep.
-Dawn is going to be so relieved to get her brain back when this is over.  She is feeling good about making the final four and actually playing the game and making moves but it's all she could do to keep it together.

REWARD CHALLENGE
They will have to hold a handle with one hand to keep a board balanced while simultaneously building a house of cards on the balanced board with the other hand.  The first person to build their house of cards high enough to reach the marker, wins an advantage in the final immunity challenge (That's HUGE, even better than food.)

Off they go - they all have different strategies and configurations of houses of cards... Cochran is the first one to lose his stack, he has to start rebuilding - then shaky hands Sherri loses her house and is rebuild

ding.  Cochran drops his again.  Dawn is pretty shaky handed too but she is almost there... nope, too much lean in her stack and they had to blur her swearing (Mormon mom of six - I'm shocked :)).  Eddie's in the best position at this point, until he puts one on and picks it up again - sending his house tumbling.  Now Sherri's made up the lead and the others are trying to catch her - Cochran loses his again!  But Sherri is super shaky handed and she loses half the stack.  Dawn loses hers again.  Eddie is getting closer but his house topples again.  Sherri and Cochran are now racing for it but the shaky hands can't compete - Cochran is steady as a rock and Wins the Advantage!
-Dawn is the first one to hug him... suck up!   She says they all know they have to win that final immunity or they are all on the chopping block (uh, yeah, that's generally how it works.)

Enil Edam - Day 37
They return to camp and Cochran tells the camera he is the challenge beast!  This is his third individual win, and this could be a million dollar advantage.  He was scared that Eddie might win it but he also didn't want Dawn to have it in case he decided Dawn should go instead.  He says the advantage is in the right hands, capable hands, and we'll see what happens.
-Sherri is talking to Eddie and says she'd much rather go to the end with him and Cochran than Dawn.  She's played the sympathy card like no other - six kids, adoption and crying... it could all help her win the game.
-Eddie says Dawn's going to win, in his opinion she would get all the jury votes.  Sherri agrees, she's not sitting next to that.
-Dawn & Cochran confirm that they are locked but Dawn is nervous about Sherri, why is she going off talking to just Eddie.
-Cochran is about fed up with her constant paranoia - he tells the camera, "Everyday I get to see a new freak out from Dawn.  There's the over the top weeping, sobbing, flailing of arms, asking to be left alone.  Fortunately today Dawn was leaning towards the catatonic breakdown and a lot of it stemmed from the paranoia of what if Eddie & Sherri take her out.  (Of course they're trying to take you out, there are only 4 of you left - sheesh.)
-Dawn says the longer she's out there the harder it's been for her mentally to stay positive and not be paranoid (broken record -we've heard this song before) She still needs constant reassurance from
Cochran.
-Cochran says Dawn feels like she deserves a fast pass to the finals, why exactly? I don't know. Everyday's a roller coaster with her and it's not fun, it's not funny - on day 37 she should be paranoid because I'm considering ditching her. (I love Cochran so much.)

Enil Edam - Day 38
Tree Mail - One last chance to control your destiny - they will go on the walk of remembrance (BOO!) and then go to the Immunity challenge.
Yeah, it's nostalgic for them and a right of passage of sorts but I'm going to spare you the flashbacks recap... save this: Francesca - unrealized potential, Allie - who? Blond #1, Hope - who? Blond #2, Shamar - Big baby, Laura - Blond #3, Brandon - scarily unbalanced, Matt - face dread, Julia - who? brunette, Corinne - likes the gays, Michael - the gay (sorry to pigeon-hole you dude), Phillip - the Specialist, Malcolm - hottie (Dawn kept calling all the guys a 'challenge beast' stop trying to make that happen!), Reynold - pretty boy, Andrea - smart flirt, Brenda - quiet powerhouse, Erik - I think he redeemed himself, (but in the name of all that is holy, please eat a cheeseburger.)
Then they set a big idol built of sticks on fire on the beach - How fun!

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
-They have to run up a long flight of stairs, untie a bag of puzzle pieces then slide down through water and rice, drop the bag and go back up - 3 storeys, three bags of puzzle pieces.  Once they have all the bags, they have to complete a fire puzzle - first person to get the puzzle completed, wins immunity and a guaranteed spot in the final three.
-Cochran's advantage - his bags of puzzle pieces are already untied - he doesn't have to worry about knots!
Off they go: And Cochran's advantage is proving to be a pretty good one - he's back quick with that first bag - then he falls down the ladder/ramp on the second bag (ouch, that is going to leave a mark) and all of them are landing pretty hard in the rice at the end of the slide - this is going to beat them up pretty good.  Sherri is having a hard time,  and she falls a bag behind Eddie and Dawn (her fake boobs look scary - what is that pit in the middle - gah!)
-Cochran has his three bags and can start on his puzzle when the others are just on their second bag.
-But the puzzle proves to be a killer and the others catch up, starting on the puzzle before Cochran has even found one piece correctly.  They
start putting on the pressure - Dawn is going great guns with three pieces in, Sherri is finding pieces,  Cochran finally finds a piece and he's found his rhythm, Dawn and Sherri are still placing pieces but Cochran runs away with it - COCHRAN wins Final Immunity!
-Dawn is, again, the first person to run over and hug him (why is she crying? Oh, she's so proud.)
-Cochran's in a very elite group having won 4 individual challenges,  and may have finally actually earned the right to be called by his last name.
-Cochran is in a position now that all of them want to work with him and he can have the pick of the litter - but he's got a little devil on his shoulder saying, "man, I just want to get rid of Dawn."

Enil Edam - Day 38
Cochran is thinking: Big question now, who deserves $100K for second place? It's not going to be Sherri, she may squeak out one vote but not enough for second place.  So the question now is, do I want to take Dawn with her constant emotional outbursts or Eddie, a chauvinistic 23-yr-old idiot.  It's so lonely at the top. - then he laughs, "these are horrible things for me to say, then I'll of course lose."
-Now he's got to face an afternoon of reassuring the emotional Dawn that they are locked.  Blah, blah, blah - she's he own worst enemy - (yeah, we get it, you're a paranoid ball of emotion - get over it!) Then she says part of her feels like she doesn't deserve to do good (and I feel like a total heel - that's so sad.)
-Next Cochran is talking to Eddie and he says honestly he's not sure if it's going to be him or Dawn. Eddie says it can only be one of them and he shouldn't take Dawn, she's going to play the mother card and cry, people give in to her when she cries.  Eddie says he's trying to appeal to Cochran on a logical level, not an emotional sense or a bullying sense - because Eddie really feels he has the best chance of winning this if he can get into the final three.
-Cochran says they jury loves everything Eddie says.  Eddie, "That's because I'm an idiot." (Haha!) He says he doesn't talk strategy, and yeah, he hasn't pissed anyone off but he's really only voted one person out. (Hmm, that's not the best argument there - that means everyone on the jury likes you... I think he nailed the idiot thing.)
-Until he tells us what he wants to do with the million dollars - he wants
to open a dog bar - not a bar for dogs, but a bar that is pet friendly, where you can bring your dogs and drink while they play in the doggie area. (I'm in!  I don't have a dog, but that sounds like fun, let's go to the dog bar!)
-Cochran is still weighing his options, he knows Sherri's going to the end because he can beat her but can he beat Eddie or can he beat Dawn?  I hopes he doesn't kick himself about this decision.

TRIBAL COUNCIL
Erik looks much better - all bright eyed and properly hydrated.

Eddie, did Erik leaving open a door for you in a way?
-It definitely stirred things up a bit because I think it was Erik, Dawn and Sherri who were the planned final three. (Cochran didn't like that) So I did have the chance to cause some commotion in the last two days.
Cochran, I didn't hear your name in that final three.
-Yeah, it's a little alarming.  It was probably a good thing Erik wasn't there because he was keeping me out of the potential final three but it was the circumstances that he went under that made it hard to celebrate it.
Challenges - first the reward is an advantage in the immunity challenge - Cochran wins his third individual challenge - you can't even resist, you feel so good right?
-It's bizarre to me because I thought I could maybe meet 1/3 of the Survivor challenge [out wit, out last, out play] with the out wit.  After the last time playing people thought he was worthless and he began to believe he was worthless but now I'm feeling more confident and the fact that I'm able to succeed now is remarkable to me.
Today's challenge - Cochran, what was the feeling when I yelled, "Cochran wins immunity!"?
-It was the most incredible moment in the game to me so far.  Not so much that I was going to be safe at tonight's tribal council but that I wouldn't have been capable of that a couple years ago.
So Dawn, one of you will become the final member of the jury - Cochran is safe and has some sway, what your argument to him [to keep you]?
-I've done a pretty good job of maligning myself with most of the people on the jury (really? I don't really see that - Brenda, yes) Eddie's so likeable, he hasn't sent anyone on the jury home except Phillip - they're going to love him.
Eddie?
-Yeah?
It's your game brother. [Uh, same question, pay attention, okay?]
-I would probably say the exact same thing. And not to put myself down but I really did only vote one person out on the jury so strategy-wise, how much did I really do out here? It's a game of deception not really a game of loyalty and honesty. Dawn made huge moves and changed how the game was played so I think taking Dawn to the final three is putting her right in front. (Well said.)
So Cochran, Eddie's saying you can knock him out by saying he's done nothing but been a nice guy...
-Eddie & Dawn both have great arguments - Dawn making herself sound like she's a complete villain which he doesn't think is necessarily the case - What it really comes down to is what criteria the jury is going to be using and my perception of what the jury wants in a winner is what I'm likely placing my vote on.
Sherri, what's it like sitting one of four and nobody really paying any attention to you? It's a foregone conclusion you're going to the final three.
-That's how they've been playing the game, that I haven't been a threat but I'm still here.  I've made alliances and everyone just seems to forget... blah, blah - Reynold is looking at her like she's mental.  She continues, "I may not say a lot, but I take in a lot." (So?)
-Cochran says he thinks Sherri maybe has done more to get to this point than is immediately apparent.
-Eddie pipes up, "I think your best chance is with me and Sherri."  Sherri agrees, awkwardly.
Dawn, put a little fear in you?
-Not more than today or yesterday or the 36 days before that (she is always afraid Jeff.)

Okay, time to vote:
Eddie votes Dawn
Dawn votes Eddie - Please go home!
Cochran says I think you're the only person out there that can beat me...

Tallying the votes:
Dawn - 1
Eddie - 1, 2, 3 - Dimpled Lisp is out of the game - bye bye Amigo!
Eddie's final thoughts - Sherri has zero chance of winning that's why she is going to the final three.  If he had gone to the final three first place was his (uh huh.)  As much as it sucks, he's pretty happy with how he ended up.

Enil Edam - Day 39
Filler, filler, filler - they get food, champagne, eggs, sausage - they eat.
Sherri says her husband will be so proud of her, she wasn't going to take anything less than final three.  She formed an underdog alliance and ran that alliance, that's why she's still there,
Dawn had an alliance with Cochran from the beginning but her real alliance was with her family at home - never a day she wasn't loyal to her family (yes, I rolled my eyes - I'm sure they are really proud of watching her on-going mental breakdown on TV.) Dawn's proud of herself for making it to the end, proving that she can play the game well and owning her decisions.  She feels like it's a storybook ending for Cochran and her but it's still game on for her and she's confident she can beat Sherri or Cochran.
Cochran - is sitting at the water hole posed like the thinker (ha, really?) in voice over he says the first time he's really felt frazzled out there was today. He wrote an award winning paper on the Survivor Jury System for law school but it's one thing to write about it and another to live it and he's struggling with that dichotomy right now.  Law school hasn't prepared him for this, "Sorry Harvard, but you really haven't taught me much on how to address a jury." (ha)  He's going to learn his lesson tonight.  He says whenever things are looking good for him he starts expecting and preparing for the worst.  He knows he's played a great game and has to be confident when presenting his case but when he's not feeling confident it's hard to do.

FINAL TRIBAL COUNCIL
Opening statements:
Dawn: I'm looking at the group of you and feeling humble because I know how hard you all played.  I know you all know how hard this game was for me, the emotion had to do with how hard it was for me to be duplicitous because when I came out here I made a couple promises to myself about how I would play.  First I was going to have one ally that I was willing to take to the end and strategize with and make decisions with and that was Cochran.  The second thing is, I wanted to be in control of my own game. And the third thing is, and the hardest part, i had to give myself permission to play the game and be willing to exploit the friendships and trust she built in the game, something she wouldn't do in normal life. "If this is football, I have to be willing to tackle." (Brenda looks right PO'd just listening to Dawn.) She's proud of her game because she made the hard decisions when she had to and that got them both where they are today.

Sherri: So you all know me as the stay at home mom and I have three children and have been married for 18 years - all this is true but I am also a very successful business woman - I have 75 employees, I run several businesses (Reynold looks like he's not buying it) and when I came into Survivor, I was going to play how I run my businesses, I was going to look at you like people I deal with on a day to day basis... (and then she loses it...) I'm so nervous - (yup, totally lost her train of thought and any momentum she had.  It was painful to watch her flounder.) Um, so, yeah, I had to make decisions and make myself pliable to get into many different areas (so you're putty?) She thinks she was successful because she's still sitting there.

Cochran: This is the culmination of thirteen years of passion for Survivor, half my life.  In high school I used to wear a buff every night that Survivor was on, I used to distribute a newsletter (there is nothing wrong with that! Ha), I wrote a paper about it in law school, this is an obsession.  And the fact that I'm here now is surreal and an honour.  I had no fantasy that I would become one of the top 10 challenge performers in Survivor history.  Socially I'm an awkward person, I have anxiety, but somehow I fell into the role of therapist, when paranoia was rampant at camp I would step in as a calming force.  Strategically I'm proud of myself, when the merge hit that's when the individual threats emerged and I know I can't out-muscle, out-charm or even out-strategize but I can beat people in timing and that is what this game has been for me is timing.  Whenever a threat emerged, I would strike before I could be stuck at.  I've lied along the way, I've deceived along the way and I'm proud of it and I want to own it and I want you to be aware of why I think I've played the best game.  So I'm looking forward to the questions, you can tear me apart but I want to prove why I played the best game.

Jury Questions:
Malcolm: congratulations - Sherri, I don't have a question for you.(Burn!) Dawn and Cochran, my vote is up in the air.  I think you both played a smart game - So Dawn, no question but I'm going to be your best friend tonight - he tells her to own her game.  You can't be warm mother of six now, if you were cold and played hard, own it and fight for it. I will vote for you.
Cochran, what quality do you have that I don't have that allowed you to be so successful and get you to the end?
Answer: A heightened level of insecurity.  When he heard people had their own plans he'd get very insecure and take them out so it manifested in a healthy way but he could not imagine Malcolm being insecure so that's something that Cochran has that Malcolm doesn't.
Malcolm - Thanks.

Eddie: Sherri, are you willing to admit that you got carried to the final three or do you still think you're here for a strategic reason?
-I don't think I got carried to the final three. (sigh) The jury all laughed at her (ouch.)
Dawn, what troubles me the most about you is you talked about how you played this strong game and were cold-hearted but whenever I saw you interact with anyone you were the weakest most fragile player out here, all the time. It was a daily occurrence of you running off to have a breakdown.
-Oh I think I've been strong but you're seeing the wear of the game on me.  I still want to own that I made those decisions, that I took friendships and exploited them, that I said we need to vote this person out of how I feel or what they did for me.
Cochran, you have come 180 from where you were last time you played.  I am judging you on where you are going to take this forward coming out of this game (what? What does that have to do with anything?) He asks him what he'd be like going to the bar with the three amigos.
-I'm going to be at the bar, there's no question - but a couple years ago I would have panic attacks just thinking about that.  I would be at the bar beside you, well, slightly apart because there would be two girls on either side of me. (He gave the answer Eddie wanted, probably not true to character but definitely the right answer for Dog-Bar owner Eddie.)  It's going to change the way he interacts socially with people well beyond the bounds of this game.
(Reynold also seems quite happy with that answer - so shallow the pretty people.)

Phillip: Sherri, the day you made the decision to join the favourites, that was a strategic move that got you sitting there today. However, as of today, you are no longer a member of Stealth R Us (what did she do to be stripped of her Tenacious title?) He rescinds her membership no explanation (but much to Malcolm's amusement.)
Dawn, we had to live with several times a day with her [paranoid freak outs] - I have total intolerance for somebody who wants to come out and play Survivor then suddenly cry or make all kinds of excuses during the game (who cares what you'll tolerate - she's in the final 3, you're not.) You made camp life for most of us very disruptive, I'd have a hard time voting for you.
Cochran, you've played a very strategic game, you did it in a straightforward manner, I didn't feel there was any malice toward anybody and I just wanted to say I enjoyed playing the game with you. You're a real class act. (WOW, high praise from the Specialist.)

Erik: Dawn, we helped each other through this and I thought we shared something that was so special but after what happened with Brenda, you crushed it.  It wasn't precious, it wasn't special, are you aware of the damage you caused when you played the game you played? (Seriously? That's sounding like the old Erik asking that silly question).
-I came into the game saying I would use the friendships I made to get me further in the game and she was more loyal to Cochran and that alliance.  They were all honest connections for her but she was playing the game to get further (Malcolm is smiling on like a proud papa, she's going what I told her to do... gag me.)
Sherri, I want to talk to you, in the same vein of awareness, do you understand why you're here right now?
-I'm here because I played the game hard.  I played the game how I wanted to play it now how you all think I should have played it.
No one is digging into your strategy, no on is asking you those questions are they? She's not sure why and he would like to enlighten her, "You never did anything in this game.  You were a seashell on the beach..." but his condescending tone sends her into rage bitch horrible boss mode - "I don't care what you think, I don't need your vote, obviously I'm not going to get it.  I don't need to listen to you, you can sit down."  And he does.  But she lost any sliver of a chance she had at votes. (Not that she had a sliver of a chance anyway. Oh, and I hope he didn't have anything for Cochran - yeah, the ice cream scooper is still dominated by women.)

Michael: Dawn and Cochran I knew you guys were playing the same game but I feel like Dawn you are getting more of the punch gut reaction.  Why is Cochran getting off scott-free and you are being called the villain?
-I think it's because I developed the relationships with people that gave the information that we needed to take people out.
So he doesn't have as much blood on his hands?
-I don't think he has as much blood, I don't think he had as much responsibility and I don't think he would necessarily be here if I hadn't developed the relationships.  In my opinion there were a lot of decisions in the game where Cochran didn't have to do anything but show up and vote.
Cochran do you think Dawn deserves the reactions she's getting?
-I don't know.  Honestly I'm happy she's getting these reactions - he's happy there's venom towards Dawn.  He disagrees that he wouldn't be in the game if it wasn't for her, certainly there is a reciprocity and symbiosis in their relationship.  The paranoia that ran rampant with you around camp was crippling (there was a little back and forth) still my answer - you were essential in gathering the information but I actually made the decisions.  If I hadn't become your therapist, I don't think you would still be in this game. (Oh, snap.)

Reynold: He disliked Dawn from day one, he saw her as a phony, over enthusiastic hugs and disingenuous.
-She basically says that's just how she is.  It's not fake, she's just a robot (ha ha, no, she didn't say that.)  He asks for her honest opinion of him and she says he's a chauvinist, he has a great sense of humour and he's very vulgar.   So now he's happy and he can believe her - Tell these people I kicked your ass.
-I kicked your ass in this game!  But I still do love you.

Andrea: Not bitter, no mean words.  You guys blindsided me with a hidden immunity idol in my bag and it was awesome.
Cochran, if you could choose one animal that you played this game most like, what would it be?
-A chameleon , I was able to change colours at the drop of a hat. It was
his adaptability and the timing (oh, coming back to his theme) of that adaptability that was crucial to his game.
Dawn, I'm really proud of you and I think you played a very strategic game and if I was in the final three I would have played similar to you, I understand where you are coming from.  Thanks.

Brenda: Let's do this.
Cochran, we didn't have an emotional bond like Dawn and I did. But I felt we bonded over the family visit - I feel like I gave you something and almost right away, you took something.  I want you to sell me on why I should give to you now.
- I have developed a sociopathic ability to separate emotion from the game and outside the game I will prove my gratitude for what I consider an emotional gift.  In terms of why you should vote for me, you were a threat to my game and I took out that threat.  It's cold but it's the truth.
Dawn, you know how strong the bond I thought I had with you was and getting voted off by YOU was where the pain came.
She goes over the missing teeth breakdown and asks Dawn, would she really have quit the game if she didn't get her teeth back, something cosmetic. Would you have quit this game if I didn't give you back your teeth?
-No.
Then prove it.  I want you to take out your teeth. (YES! Brenda gets the Sue Hawk award for dramatics - THAT'S AWESOME!)
-Dawn tries to talk her way out of it, "Yeah, I'm not going to do that."
But Brenda's having none of it - You're telling me I didn't have your fate in this game in my hand, that it was really no big deal, you were going to stay - if that's true, then take them out.
-If you want me to humiliate myself, I will do it...
Okay, let's do it. Let's do it
-Dawn kept blabbing on until finally, she did take out the teeth and grin with the big hole in her bottom teeth - (still has the big fake chicklets up top so no big deal.)
Brenda just didn't want her to minimize what she did for her, I wanted you to feel that because that's what I felt, a little bit of heartbreak...and I think she made her point.    (HA! That was fun.)

Time to vote:
Phillip voted for Cochran - thanks him for joining Stealth R Us (seriously?)
Malcolm says it's not the name he thought he'd be writing down tonight but they didn't show us who it was...
Jeff walks off with the votes into the night and then into the CBS studio...

And it's time to read the votes:
Sherri's pretty sure she has no chance (really? Why?)
Cochran, skin so translucent it burned instantly, hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.
Dawn, took us on an emotional ride... she doesn't think she's going to win but she thinks she'll be able to buy some new teeth.

Votes:
Cochran - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 - COCHRAN is the Winner of Survivor Caramoa, Fans vs Favourites!  And he had to sweep it or they would have shown someone else's votes.  Congratulations you glorious nerd you.
And with Cochran, the winners of our Pool are: Ryan H, Robert L and Fred & Gary M. (these two are the luckiest... but I'm not bitter, I've just NEVER won the pool myself, but it's fine.  Really.)

So, point form of the reunion:
-Malcolm won the Sprint player of the game vote and won $100K
-Malcolm also had a small bit part on the Bold & the Beautiful (he shouldn't quit his day job)
-Brenda is pregnant and wasn't there in person but she's still not speaking to Dawn and they gave Dawn a chance to apologize but she didn't (nor do I think she should have to.)
-Boston Rob wrote a rule book for life based on Phillip's BR rules - and he presented a copy to Phillip.
-And they teased about the next season, showing a drop of blood in water... the title of the next season, Blood vs Water. (Oh, is it going to be family members - PLEASE NO MORE HANTZ's!)

Another great season.  See you in September!

Coleen.

Survivor Fans vs Favourites - May 8/13 Episode Recap

Don't Say Anything About My Mom

Last week they doubled up on the tribal councils and we saw Reynold (no surprise) and Andrea (Big Surprise) go home.

Enil Edam - Day 35
Dawn breaks on a new day and Eddie is left truly alone, a sitting duck without his girlfriend or his boyfriend :(
-Eddie and Cochran are talking and Eddie says he knows he's next to go, Cochran points out he could win immunity, then who do you think will go?  Eddie says, you [Cochran] - and that gives him pause.  Cochran has always looked at himself as the scrawny useless guy that everyone would want to go to the end with, but now he's taking a step back and wondering if he can make it to the end of the game.

-Brenda & Dawn are talking and they confirm Eddie's take on things - if Eddie wins immunity Brenda thinks Cochran should go next and Erik's on board with her.
-Dawn isn't sure what to do, she thought she was a lock with Cochran and Sherri but now Brenda & Erik want to take her to the final three with them... she hopes, whichever way she goes, it proves she had options and she played a game that was worth a million dollars.

-Erik is having a really hard day - he's starving and feels trapped there - he's in a beautiful prison and the days are killing him.  He decides he's going to climb the highest coconut tree but then starts thinking he could fall out of the tree and break his leg... that would get him out of there and no one would think less of him... then he realizes he's defeating himself with thoughts like that (oh yeah, he's losing it.) He gets down out of the tree.  And whines a little more about wanting food.

Tree Mail - Eddie collects a Sprint smart phone and Dawn loses her shit just seeing the box.  Of course the tears start in earnest when they see the messages from their loved one's that are there - Brenda's dad, Dawn's husband (she is sobbing), Sherri's husband, Cochran's mom (aw, she hopes he's been using sunscreen), Eddie's dad (big man, he's proud to be his father ... crap, why am I crying?) and Erik's brother (he has really short hair - they don't look alike at all.)  Just seeing the video of
his brother has reinvigorated Erik and reminded him of why he's there - he hasn't been out there that long to go home with nothing.
They take a picture of themselves with the phone and can't believe how they look (yes, you are that skinny!)

REWARD CHALLENGE
They brought out the loved one's and I'm bawling! (Stupid crying episode! sniff
-Brenda thanks her dad for getting her this far because he told her to be humble this time around and she has been (AH! Yes, she was too cool for school the last time - listen to daddy!)
She even made Jeff cry and he said 26 seasons of Survivor and he's never broken - until now. (I know how you feel Jeff, sheesh.)
-Erik & his brother - bro-out
-Sherri & her husband - just crying and hugging.
-Cochran & his mom - so much crying (he says he's sorry he smells - aw)
-Eddie & his dad - his dad's so cute!
-Leaving Dawn to have and epic crying fit when she sees her husband - they run towards each other then stop before they touch... it was a little weird, but then they hugged and he told her the kids are all good and she  is still feeling guilty for not having money to buy her letters (at the auction? You have to get over that lady.)

So, the challenge: they will compete with their loved ones (Cochran's mom is apologizing already) they will spin around in circles unscrewing rails, once they have unscrewed all three rails and put them on the hooks between two posts, they will throw bolos (two balls connected by a rope) and attempt to get them around the rails.  First pair to land three bolos wins reward, which consists of the winning pair going back to camp where they have set up a floating backyard bbq - steak, burgers, beer, apple pie.

Off they go: and it's hilarious at first, gets better when they try to run when all dizzy but then Brenda's Dad takes a tumble (he was okay) and they are all getting tired so, not so much fun.  Erik & his bro and Brenda & her dad are leading the pack, everyone else is about even, with Cochran & his mom coming up the rear - "Don't you say anything about my Mom!" Cochran tells Jeff when he starts calling them out (What a good son.)
- Erik & his brother are the first team to start tossing the bolos - and they land one - but the rest get into it and Sherri's husband and Brenda both have two... it's a showdown and it's BRENDA & Her Dad who win the reward!  Of course Jeff tells her to pick someone to share it with - Brenda chooses Dawn.
-And just when I thought the crying was over, Jeff hands Brenda another Sprint phone and there is a video of... more loved ones that are also there.  Sherri falls to her knees when she hears one of her kids is there too (okay, that was a bit much - damn you tear ducts! Why you leak?)
-So, Brenda's choice now is, choose one other Survivor and their loved one to join the bbq or give up her love and the love she just teased Dawn with - and the other four Survivors and their loved ones will get to enjoy the bbq. (So hold on, love for her and Dawn or love for everyone else... that really sucks.)
-Brenda says of course she's going to give it to them (she really had no other choice, even with Dawn again sobbing uncontrollably beside her.)
I think Brenda may have just won this thing.

Reward: HOME SWEET HOME BBQ
-Eddie's Mom just wants to take him home and feed him.
-Sherri won't stop hugging her son, she is definitely embarrassing that poor kid.
-Cochran's dad is so pale! But he's sporting shades and manning the grill - Cochran says his dad is a neurologist and a bookish guy - this sunglasses and flipping burgers... "Since when are we doing that Dad?"

-And on the beach, Brenda and Dawn just get to watch everyone out on the barge having a grand ol' time.  Dawn is still crying - she's exhausted, she's hungry and she's pissed that Brenda got all the good favour today and she just got shafted.

-Erik makes a big heart with his arms and then the rest join in, yelling thank you to Brenda and saying it's not that great. (LIARS!)

-Brenda is urging Dawn to just get it out, she'll feel so much stronger afterward, and Dawn is moving into angry - she just wants to eat!  But then we're back to crying.
-Brenda hopes this was the right decision, despite what her stomach thinks and what Dawn thinks.  Every time you make a big move in this game, it's a double-edged sword.  They'll either keep you because they feel they owe you, or you're gone.
-Cochran is of the latter mindset.  Brenda's selfless act today immediately garnered favour but even his Mom recognized it could be a game winning move.  Cochran feels they're at the point where being likable is a liability and Brenda's going to start feeling that, if he has anything to say about it.

Day 36 - IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
-We're on a platform out in the water and they will be standing on a log, leaning out over the water, while holding onto a handle attached to a rope behind their backs - the handle is connected to a winch and Jeff will be cranking it down, lowering them closer to the water - last person left standing wins immunity.
-Off they go and Erik is asking if Jeff has any food to offer - nope, not this time - they all have to make a go of it this time.
-Eddie know if he doesn't win this immunity he's going home so he's not letting go if he can help it. -Cochran is also nervous, but he's also Cochran, and after 15 minutes he's not able to hold on anymore - he's the first man down.
-25 minutes in and Eddie is really struggling... and he's out.  The rest of them all nod and smile, that's what they were all waiting for, and Erik lets go, as long as Eddie didn't win he's not going to suffer longer than he has to.
-Brenda looks like she could stay there all day again - will Sherri or Dawn be able to outlast her?  Sherri is not up to that challenge - she's out.
-Dawn tries to strike a deal with Brenda, "Eddie's out and I haven't won one..." But no, Brenda is there to challenge herself and she's not giving up.  Dawn says she respects that (but I'm thinking she is resenting the hell out of Brenda right now, this is not going to make Dawn feel any better about missing the bbq - I think Brenda better hold out for immunity.)
-Jeff lowers them a bit more and Brenda looks to be struggling... DAWN wins immunity!  For the first time in her Survivor Career!
-Brenda tells the camera if it had been Eddie still up there she would have held on a lot longer but someone as paranoid as Dawn, gotta keep her happy, she jumped in the water and it was all good. (uh huh.)

Enil Edam - Day 36
Coming back to camp Brenda is talking to the camera saying in her mind it's a straight forward vote for Eddie tonight and then, the plan is to take out Cochran next. "It's the perfect plan if we can stick to it."
-Erik, Brenda, Dawn & Cochran are together and Brenda confirms it's the easy vote for Eddie, yes?  They agree but Cochran then tells the camera if he had his choice between Eddie & Brenda, he'd rather have Brenda go, it will benefit him, and indirectly Dawn & Sherri as well. (Personally, I don't think they should take any Fans to the end - both Eddie & Sherri should go - in my opinion.)

-Cochran realizes Brenda could be a hard sell with everyone so gung ho about taking Eddie out but he gently broaches the subject with Sherri and she says she was already there - it would be the perfect time to blindside Brenda because she would not be expecting it.
-Cochran then goes and talks to Dawn and she agrees that Brenda is a huge threat, everyone likes her, she garnered so much favour today (Yes, Dawn is well aware) but Dawn is still being wishy-washy - she's thinking if they don't take out Eddie now and he goes on a winning streak, he could upset all their plans.  In her mind worst case is they vote out Eddie and have this same discussion tomorrow.
-Cochran still wants to take out Brenda when it will be easy to do it - he knows she's brought up his name to go next - he's trying to gently coax Dawn to his way of thinking...
-Dawn is thinking - probably way too much.  She does know that Brenda is a big threat but she's leery of putting too much of her game in Cochran's hands, that's sent her home before...  She's really confused.

TRIBAL COUNCIL
Dawn, wearing the immunity idol for the first time - how does it feel?
-It's good to come to tribal council and just breathe - it's good to be safe but more than anything it's the feeling of "I did that." Bucket list thing.
Brenda, [talking about the immunity challenge] what's the feeling of 'you know you're at your end and there is just one person left'?
-In this case, it was okay because it was Dawn.  I wanted her to win it as opposed to me just jumping off.  I knew I had maybe 5 more minutes on this thing, then I fell off.
Eddie, on the other side, you felt the pressure that you needed to win.
-Absolutely, I knew if I didn't win I would probably be packing my bags for the last time...
And yet, how many times have you said that?
-I'm kind of like a broken record, but my one amigo fuse is running short.
So, the  other big event, the loved ones.  Brenda, you get to the loved one challenge and you win and you're faced with a big dilemma...
-Yeah, here I am standing with my dad and my sister's here then the dilemma, it was the two of us or the four of them - it was a no-brainer.  It was hard and easy at the same time.
Dawn, does a gesture by Brenda buy her anything in this game?
-I think it does buy her something.  Everyone was very happy.  I think the long term on that is going to benefit her in the game.
Sherri, would you agree?
-Definitely, everyone is looking at Brenda as a saint and you just couldn't do anything to her, right now.
Cochran, there is an easy vote right now, it's Eddie. But nothing about this season has been easy or predictable.
-Yeah, Eddie is the easy vote but the easy vote is not always the smartest vote.  It's about weighing short term gratification versus long term benefits - that's a constant struggle in this game.
Eddie, what are the odds tonight that you survive this vote?
-I really think this is the final send off for myself. But I've come to terms with it. Everything has been so unbelievable, I've just had the best time.

Alright, Dawn's not going home, Eddie's pretty sure he is going home - It's time to vote:
Sherri votes for Brenda (oh?)
Brenda votes Eddie...

Tallying the votes:
No hidden immunity idols.

And it's started raining - (oh, that's definitely a sign.)
Eddie - 1, 2
Erik - 1
Brenda - 1, 2, 3 - Holy!  Brenda turns around and says, "I was genuine with you guys.  I was honest to you guys."  And as Jeff snuffs her torch, she puts her hands over her heart, "It hurts." and she leaves crying.  (THAT WAS PERFECT! She took all the smug off their faces - Cochran and Dawn look a little gutted - ha! Even Erik throws them a "how could you" look. Awesome.)  Eddie's looking around like, What just happened?
Oh, and with Brenda's unceremonious departure, Cara & Alex L, Cheryl J and Ian G are out of the pool.

Next episode is the Finale on Sunday.
Here's who's still in the running:
Dawn Meehan: Drew C, Shane B and Katie L
Erik Reichenbach: Susan N, Robyn A and Annemette J
John "Cochran": Ryan H, Robert L and Fred & Gary M
Sherri Biethman: Chandra K, Ivor B, and Roxanne S
Eddie Fox: Bernice R, Lynne B and Bryon L

There are only 3 days left in this completely unpredictable season and they hint that someone gets taken out... medically? Jeff, in the dark, saying this game just got rocked again (OH! Who is it?)

Brenda's final thoughts: just crying - she's in shock, it just hurts so much. (Wow, no good deed goes unpunished in Survivor. Nice guys definitely finish last out there.)

Have a great rest of your week everyone,

Coleen

Amazing Race 22 - Season Finale Recap, May 5, 2013

Season Finale

The Final 4 teams and pool participants still in the running:

Roller Moms, Mona & Beth: Robert L, Kim B, Janine S, Jenn G and Jessica C.
Country Singers, Caroline & Jennifer: Miranne D, Laura W, Lee G, Bernice R and Krista H.
Hockey Brothers, Bates & Anthony: Sue & Hannelore, Cara & Alex L, Roxanne S, Bryon L, and Ian G.
Horrible Honeymoon, Max & Katie: Tamara J, Drew C, Pat T, Sandy G and Cheryl B.

The teams are heading out from Edinburgh, Scotland - Max & Katie depart first at 4:07pm - they read the clue to head to the capital of Northern Ireland - they have to take a train to the coast, then a ferry over to Belfast NI, then pick up a car and drive themselves to a park where they'll find their next clue (trains, boats and automobiles, oh my!)  They hop in a cab and head for the train station.

-Bates & Anthony are next out at 4:15pm - it's raining and they can't find a cab - but they figure they may be able to walk to the station.  The brothers say they think the Roller Moms are the strongest team still there and they have to go (hmm, I wouldn't go that far.)
-The boys get to the train station and get on the same train as Max & Katie.

-Country Singers are heading out at 5:27pm - they are excited to be in the final 4 and they attribute their success in getting so far to their positive energy, they are having so much fun and they believe in each other. (Teams that flirt together, stick together?)

-Roller Moms last out at 7:27pm - Last leg was rough for them but they know they make the other teams nervous so they weren't surprised to be U-Turned.  They are really good friends but their whole relationship has centered around competition and they think that has given them an edge.

-First two teams get to the ferry terminal and find out the next boat doesn't leave for Ireland until 7:30am - so it looks like they are sleeping there... and all the teams will be on the same ferry in the morning.
-In the terminal Max can't help being a jerk and asks the Roller Moms how they felt when they only saw two cars in the parking lot on the last leg [when they realized they didn't have the lead like they thought] and Max & Katie were the team that U-Turned them too, so he enjoys pouring salt on that wound.
-Beth says it's a game, she would have done the same thing too - but to the camera she says she doesn't understand why they would be helping the strongest team [the hockey brothers] if they want to win themselves. (Well, they were behind Bates & Anthony so they couldn't U-Turn them... but I don't think they would have anyway.)

-On the ferry all the teams are using the Internet and getting directions to the places they need to go.  Once the ferry lands they all take off running for the shipyard where the cars are parked.
-Mona & Beth start out leading the pack but Max & Katie and the Hockey boys pass them in traffic.
-Hockey Brothers are content following Max & Katie but she is doing her backseat driving and second guessing Max's every move - she thinks they've gone too far so she gets him to turn around - Bates & Anthony follow.
-Mona & Beth don't think they went the right way so they are going to keep going the way they think it should be -  The Country Girls are following them.
-Max & Katie and the Hockey Brothers are the first teams to the park.
-Mona & Beth and the Country Singers realize they need to turn around.
-At the park, the two teams first there read the clue to the ROADBLOCK: Who wants to be bogged down?  They will have to participate in a bog snorkeling competition - something conceived over a pint at the pub (Nooo, really?)  Katie and Anthony will be doing this Roadblock.
-They must take a kiddy train out to the marsh, don a wetsuit, snorkel & flippers, cannonball into a mud pit then swim 100m through a murky bog in under 4 minutes.  Once they complete it in time, they'll get their next clue.
-The other two teams arrive at the Park and Jen & Mona are going to be snorkeling - but they have to wait for the train to come back first.

-Once at the bog, Anthony and Katie (who is already complaining about having to do this, of course) have to suit up, with some difficulty (wet suits are ti-ight.)  Anthony is the first to go, he jumps in the mud, filling his mask, then he gets into the swimming lane and finishes the swim in 2:18 - they get the clue to drive back to Belfast and find 'the thing with a ring' (it's a sculpture).
-All the girls are complaining about this task.  Katie says it's not part of the honeymoon.  Mona says two things she hates are being cold and dirty water (wah) - Jen is hoping they don't have to get in the water (what?  Sigh, she's pretty.)
-Katie is off, she jumps in and Max has the pole to help her out but he is just holding it for her to pull herself out on - she snaps at him to pull her out - he's also pretty - she runs over to the swimming lane and almost wipes out running in flippers but she is off and swimming hard... then not so hard, then on her back... then stopping.  (oh no.)  Her excuse was that her mask fogged up and she didn't know how much farther she had.  Max was afraid she would panic but she made it back in 3:08 - she said good thing she made it because she wasn't doing that again.
-Mona was very afraid of this challenge but she attacked it head on but also kinda freaking out the whole time.  I've never heard someone whimpering in a snorkel before, I felt a little bad for her.  She came in in 2:53 - not bad. But was still having a panic attack trying to get the wet suit off.
-Jen was the last to go and Caroline tells us Jen can't really swim but she had to do this Roadblock since Caroline had already done more of them.  Once Jen got to the cut off point of the swim, she was supposed to turn around and go back - she got out of the water, and jumped into a mud pit on the other side of the bridge thing... What the heck?  She's panicked, she doesn't know what to do (and obviously didn't listen to or understand the directions. Oy.)  She goes over the 4 minutes and says she can't do it again.

Out at the parking lot, Max is asking a local woman what 'the thing with the ring' is, just as Mona & Beth are running by - she starts to tell Max where it is really loudly, he tries to shush her but Mona comes on over and listens in... Ha!   The Roller Moms follow Max & Katie.

-Jen's second attempt, Caroline is running along beside her in the water to urge her on but it doesn't work - Jen says she can't breathe and she gets out of the water. (So, you're just giving up on a million dollars? Really?)  Caroline says they are not quitting.

-Bates & Anthony are stuck in traffic in Belfast.
-Max & Katie find the sculpture on the bridge and have lead the Roller Moms right to it too.  They get the clue to the DETOUR: Tray it or Spray it.
-In Tray it, they will have to descend into the dry dock where the Titanic was built.  One person will have to serve a 5 course meal to a dining room (set up under tents in the dry dock) full of guests while the other person helps prepare the dishes in the kitchen.  The server has to remember and serve the dishes in the right order and to the right passengers.  Once everyone has been served correctly, the captain will hand over their next clue.
-In Spray it, they have to go to a skate park and complete one side of a graffiti art piece using only a picture for reference (I would so do this one).  When the crew feels they've completed it correctly, they'll get their next clue.
-Katie is thinking Tray it.
-Mona & Beth are going to Tray it.
-Anthony & Bates get to the sculpture and they are also going to Tray it (huh.)

-Back at the Bog Snorkeling, Caroline is not going to let Jen quit... but Jen is really wanting to quit.

-Max & Katie are the only team that walked over to the Dry Dock and they are the first ones there.  They grab a seating chart and head into the tent to collect the dishes to serve.  The seating chart for their table only lists two dishes under each person - but the clue said 5 courses... they are about to take out the wrong things when Katie goes and looks at the menu again and realizes three of the courses are set and only two have options so the two listed on the seating chart are the two options their diners chose. (Oh, sneaky.)  They reset their tray with the correct first course and head out to serve.  Katie is the server and she has to run down 6 flights of stairs then over to the tent then back up to get the next course (seriously?)

-Back at the Bog, Caroline and Jen pray together and Jen says they had promised they would not quit, so she had to do it, for Caroline and for herself.  On her 3rd attempt she finally makes it in 3:43.  Way to go Jen!

-Max is working on setting the tray for the second course, but none of the dishes are marked and no one would tell them what the dishes were so they had to figure out what the dishes were and give the right dishes to the right diners... this is a tough challenge.
-The Hockey brothers have now arrived and they haven't figured out the menu/choices thing.  They are sending out the 2nd course first (no!)
-When Max went to hand off the tray Katie tells him they should switch and he agrees - they are much better off is he does the leg work and she does the thinking (good to know your role, I guess.)
They have their second course successfully delivered.
-Bates has run down all the soups and the Maitre D' tells him this is not what the diners ordered.  Meanwhile Anthony has figured out the 5 courses and knows they sent down the wrong dishes first. Bates has to haul it all back up.
-Mona & Beth have also arrived and they do the same thing - send down all the soups first (wrong!)

-Country Singers stop at a local junk shop to ask what 'the thing with the ring' is and the cute old shop keeper is quite taken with them, even though they don't understand his accent.  He draws them a map and Caroline has another husband prospect in Belfast :)

-Bates is now delivering the correct first course and Max delivers their third course correctly.  Beth, however, has to run the soup back up... and the girls still don't get it - they send down more soup and the deserts - nope.
-Max & Katie are delivering their last course when Anthony trips on the train tracks and dumps his tray - he has to go back for more food and Bates has to wait... which gave him a bit of a breather but still, he wasn't happy.

-The nice old shop keeper has sent the Country Singers to the completely wrong place, a circular field of some kind.  They ask young people there, who point them in the right direction, to The Beacon of Hope.  Jen says they need a beacon of hope right now.

-Mona & Beth still haven't figured out the courses, yet they are still sending the wrong food down over and over. Maybe they should go paint.
-Max is rejected on his last course, he yells up to Katie something was wrong.
-Bates has successfully delivered the third course and is taking down the fourth while Katie fixes their fifth course (they had to know that chartreuse is green not red, sheesh, this task is a killer.)

-Country Singers have finally made it the clue box and are going to Spray it (maybe they are not so dumb.)

-Bates takes down red instead of green desert... and he's mad at Anthony for single-handedly losing this for them (I've never seen them lose the joking manner before, you can tell this task is is beast.) And Anthony switches out the wrong deserts (Oh NO.)
-Katie has sent Max with the green jelly and they are the first team finished.  They get the clue to the PIT STOP, Ulster Hall.

-Country Singers are still looking for the skate park - they find it on the map but there are no street signs.

-Anthony is talking to Beth while she's waiting for Mona to bring her tray of food and he tells her their is a list of courses.  Beth asks Mona if she's looking at the list and she's adamant that she's giving her the right things on the list (but she's not.)  Anthony's smart enough to keep his mouth shut and not explain further.
-Bates has finally delivered the correct deserts and they got the clue to the Pit Stop.

-Jen & Caroline are still lost.  Caroline misses a turn and has a little cry in the car (suck it up ladies!)

-Beth also has herself a little cry when she tries to deliver soup - again - and is wrong - again.  (I blame Mona for this, why isn't she trying to figure out what the 5 courses are?  They should switch tasks.)  Mona finally listens to Beth about what Anthony told them and she finally sees the menu, "Man, we're idiots!" (We?)

-Hey, the Country Girls finally found the skate park!  Caroline is still ready to cry and now it's Jen who has to bolster her - these two have switched roles from the last task - it's exhausting keeping up with the mood swings.

-Beth is finally serving the right course - "She wasn't reading the MENU!"
-Both lady teams are working their tasks - Mona & Beth have finally delivered their 5th course correctly and Caroline & Jen have finally received the thumbs up by the street artist... they are all heading for the Pit Stop.

Here's How They Finished the first half:
1) Max & Katie - won a trip to the Dominican Republic.  Max is getting cocky, they have taken the last three legs, now they just have to win this thing.
2) Bates & Anthony - Not if they can help it.
3) Mona & Beth - They are both crying! So excited to have made the finals.
4) Caroline & Jennifer - **ELIMINATED** They enjoyed every minute of it and realize their friendship is a gift.  Get ready for some travelling songs from these two.

Last Leg:
Belfast, Northern Ireland - Max & Katie are the first team to head out at 5:04am - they have to travel by ferry across the Irish Sea to Liverpool, hit a certain pub and order a pint to receive the next clue which will give them their final destination city.  They think the honeymoon has been stressful but if they can't make it through this, the rest of the marriage should be easy. (These two do seem to deserve each other.)
-Bates & Anthony depart at 5:05am, Bates has played in the Stanley Cup finals and lost, he's not going to lose again.  But they do like their chances of finding a bar, they seem to be good at that.
-Mona & Beth are heading out at 5:47am - they tell us they are representing everybody - the Roller Derby community, their kids, their families, women, moms... see everybody.

-Next ferry isn't until 10:30am - so they will all be on the same boat.  The other teams hoped the Country Girls would be the final team but they have to pretend to be happy to see Mona & Beth.  They have an eight hour ferry trip to pretend to be nice...

-Once they land in England the pub is right there - Mona & Beth and Max & Katie order their pints and get the clue (where are the Hockey Boys?)  The final destination is Washington, D.C., once they touch down they must figure out their next clue is on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have A Dream" speech.
-Roller Moms and Horrible Honeymoon jump in cabs to Heathrow airport.  And the Hockey Boys finally find the pub and get the clue.  Bates lived in Washington for a while so he likes the sound of that being the final destination.

-11:30pm, the first two teams get to the airport and find the marked counter - it doesn't open until 5:15am - so they will all be back together on the same flight.

-Landing in Washington, they all sprint for the taxis and take off for the Lincoln Memorial.  Max & Katie are the first team on the spot, and a well dressed gentleman gives them the next clue, to head to 1100 Pennsylvania Ave where a secret service agent will escort them to have their picture taken with the President of the United States, Barak Obama (What? Are you kidding? That's crazy!)
-Beth & Mona are right behind them and Bates & Anthony are third.
-They all hop in their cabs and they are wondering if it's for real that they will be taking a picture with the president.  Everyone is excited by that prospect, except Max who is a huge Republican... (you don't have to vote for him, sheesh) He says he will leave his politics alone for this. (What a douche.)
-At 1100 Pen Ave - Max & Katie choose a Secret Service agent and head inside, through a metal detector.

-Mona & Beth have told their cab driver to take them to the White House which is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave - he tells them he can't take them any closer, they'll have to get out and walk. (Oops, that's not where you should be.)

-Bates & Anthony have given the right address and they are the second team to 1100 Pen Ave.
-Max & Katie are being led through... a mall.  They get to the gift shop where they will be photoshopped into a picture with the president (awww, Katie thought it was real, pouting princess wants her some Barak Obama - but Max was relieved he wouldn't have to compromise his politics (blah!)  The back of the picture tells them to make their way to the marked car near the paddle boat dock at the tidal basin.  Once there, they must knock on the darkly tinted back window three times to receive a briefcase and their next clue.

-Beth & Mona are realizing they have run the wrong direction and are probably in a lot of trouble. (You are 5 blocks away... grab a cab or get running.)  They grab a taxi.

-Bates & Anthony are led to the picture place and are quite let down it's not real.  Bates gets a great hat head shot with the president :)
They take off for the paddle boat dock.

-Mona & Beth finally get to 1100 Pennsylvania Ave and head inside.

-Max & Katie find the marked car, get their briefcase and the clue - ROADBLOCK - it's an Amazing Race Switchback.  There are 50 'agents' with briefcases positioned around the tidal basin.  They will have a phrase they have to say to the agents, the one that answers them correctly has their briefcase and will give them the clue to the combination - the order they finished in 3 of the legs... (Oh crap!)
-Katie wants Max to do it but he's worried it could be memory and she should do it... but they think the running will be physical so he's doing it.
-Bates & Anthony get there and Bates is going to do this one.
-Both guys take off yelling weirdly random phrases at the 'agents' - Max, "Where can I get a good half-smoke with chili?" and Bates, "I did not dress warm enough for this weather."  Getting a lot of cannot help yous.

-Mona & Beth are getting their souvenir photos taken, they also feel a little gullible for having believed it would have been real.  They head off for the paddle boat dock.
-Bates is the first to find the answer to his query, "Perhaps you'd like to borrow my gloves."  He gets the briefcase and the agent tells him the combination is the order they finished in New Zealand, Indonesia and Vietnam.  We'll see if Bates has Memory power.
-Max is frustrated to see Bates get the hand off first.
-Bates pulls out a little notebook and they've kept track of everything - so he knows what place they came in on every leg.  He does get it wrong once but rechecks and fixes that - Katie thinks Max is an idiot and they are going to be last.

-The Hockey Boys read the clue to make their way to the 'Home of the Nats'.  Bates: Who?  Anthony: The Nationals, baseball.

-Roller Girls just show up as the Hockey Brothers are leaving, typical.  Beth is going to do this one for them, "The cherry blossoms are beautiful here in April."
-Max is halfway around the basin and he doesn't see anymore agents - he doesn't know what he's done wrong and he's heading back.  Katie still thinks he's an idiot who has no idea what he's doing. (Yeah, their marriage is going to be great.)

-Bates & Anthony get to Nationals Park and find out it's time to "PLAY BALL!"  One team member will be suspended to a zip line above the stadium.  The other team mate will be dressed as a baseball (mascot costume) on the ground.  The suspended player will fly across the field and will drop/throw a ball down to the baseball who must catch it in a glove.  (Ha ha, this is ridiculous!  But I love it.)  They have to keep trying until they successfully catch the ball, and then will be given the next clue.
-They miss on their first attempt, Bates says he couldn't see out of the costume, it was like trying to catch with one eye closed - no depth perception.

-Back at the tidal basin - Beth finds an agent who will have to bring his mother there next spring and she gets the clue to the combo... we'll see if she remembers.
-Max finally finds the agent who has heard there is a great place on U Street. (Where the heck have you been?)
-Beth runs her briefcase back to Mona and she also checks their notes to find out the order they finished in the specified cities.
-Max runs back with his and Katie tells him he still has to do it - they also have notes and both teams are trying for taxis - Max jumps in front of the girls and gets the first taxi.  They're heading for the baseball field.

-Bates makes the catch!  The clue is written on the baseball - Hains Point.  The cab driver knows where that is.  They take off.

-Max & Katie get to the stadium and right to the clue box - Katie's going to throw and Max's going to catch.
-Mona & Beth get to the stadium too but have a wander around, they don't see the clue box.

-Inside, Max is having a hard time catching the ball and I can't say I didn't enjoy watching him falling down in the baseball costume.
-From inside, Mona & Beth finally spot the clue box outside - Beth used to play softball so she's going to catch.

-Bates & Anthony get to Hains Point - they find a big box full of globes.  Each of the globes has a highlighted country on them.  One person has to get in the box and find 10 globes that have one of the countries they visited on the Race on them. Throwing them out to their partner as they find them.  They must then put the globes in the correct order before they can get their next clue.

-Back at the baseball field - Katie, "Oh my God!  You suck at baseball." (Thanks for your loving support, honey.)  Once Mona & Beth showed up it must have been the push Max needed because he caught the ball.

-Back at the adult sized ball pit - Anthony is buried in globes and he can't find any with the right countries marked.  He's getting frustrated  - until he finds Tahiti... then Vietnam.  They said they've been sitting on planes memorizing maps looking at the countries - before this race, there would have been no way they'd know where anything was.

-Max & Katie are taking off for Hains Point and Beth is kinda digging the baseball outfit: "How does my butt look in this baseball?"  Then they start to try the catching and it doesn't go so well... until the 17th attempt, success!

-Bates & Anthony can't find an Indonesia marked ball... finally Anthony finds one and the centre globe opens with the clue to the Finish Line: The Home of the First President.   They hop in a cab.

-Max & Katie get to Hains Point and Max jumps in the ball pit and disappears.
-Mona & Beth get there and Mona jumps in the ball pit as well.
-Max & Katie decide to switch places at some point - but they get all the balls and take off for the finish line.
-Beth & Mona also decide to switch... I think Mona just wanted to belly flop into the balls.

Here's How They Finished:
WINNERS: Bates & Anthony!   Anthony can buy himself some new false teeth now.  There is no one else they'd want to race with, and no one else they would have done so well with.  It was Amazing!
SECOND: Max & Katie - the Race really reinforced that they are a really really great power couple (Max's words) and they can really do some great things together (Really?)
THIRD: Mona & Beth - They hope their kids think their moms are bad asses.  The Race has been life changing for them, it is a prize in itself.

And the winners of the pool: Sue & Hannelore (Hannelore, it's not your son & husband this time), Cara & Alex L (Bob & Katie, your kids aren't allowed in anymore ;P), Roxanne S (patience pays off), Bryon L (it's better not to get the cute little blondes sometimes) and Ian G (first time winner.)  Congratulations everyone!

Apparently, next Sunday is the finale of Survivor... and Mother's Day.  I'm almost on pool holidays!

Have a great week everyone,

Coleen

Survivor Fans vs Favourites - May 1, 2013 Episode Recap

The Beginning of the End

Last week was the Survivor Auction, Cochran bought an advantage that won him individual immunity and Malcolm bought a clue that didn't pan out - leaving him vulnerable and, ultimately, the person voted out.

Enil Edam - Night 30 (At least the tribe is still named after Malcolm's mother :)
Eddie and Reynold are back where they started - but they are taking the fact that they are still there as a positive. You never know what could happen.
-Reynold is talking big, saying he could see himself winning every immunity which makes Andrea nervous and sends her running to talk to Cochran about making a plan to get him out.
-Cochran is not the little Harvard nerd trembling in the bushes this time, he's ready to suck up all the power and take control of the game with no reservations. (Meaning Reynold better win immunity or he's gone.)

Enil Edam - Day 31
Tree Mail tells them its another immunity challenge today and they will be going to tribal council.  Erik is disappointed, he was hoping for reward but they know they have to keep Reynold from winning and vote him off.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE (Already?)
They must balance on a triangular platform in the water with their feet perched on very narrow footholds - at regular intervals they will move up, bringing their legs closer together and their bodies higher out of the water - making it more difficult to balance.  Last person standing wins Immunity and, in addition, they are playing for Reward in the form of information - Jeff has a little scroll in his hand (there is still another hidden immunity idol out there after all, since Malcolm couldn't dig it up.)

-They get going and almost immediately Jeff offers anyone who wants to step out of the challenge a plate of donuts and a glass of milk.  Eddie and Erik agree to both take Jeff up on the donuts and they jump off their platforms (Seriously? Eddie, what are you thinking? He's SMRT that one.)

-15 minutes in they are allowed to sit for a second to adjust their feet and move up to the next ledges.  And Jeff offers three hot dogs and a soft drink.  Cochran says he's going to take it, okay? (Are you asking or telling them?  That is not how you take control dude.)  No one but Reynold supports Cochran's decision but he's out anyway - leaving it to the ladies to beat Reynold.  Cochran knew he couldn't last that much longer so he might as well get something.  As long as one of them wins...

-30 minutes elapsed and they move up to the top of the triangle and it's hard even to stand on - everyone is having to check their balance... and a big gust of wind take Dawn out... then Sherri is out... leaving Reynold standing against the two little girls, Brenda and Andrea.  Reynold nearly falls a couple times, he has to make a few huge recoveries but finally he can't hold on anymore and drops.
-Brenda looks over at Andrea and says he's gone, what do you want to do?  Andrea is not jumping off, she'll be happy for Brenda if she wins though - so Brenda asks if she's nervous or something?  Brenda's not going to quit either... basically they are both very polite but the game is still on, the ladies are fighting for that necklace.

-3 hours in they are both standing solid and Brenda & Andrea decide to add a 4th level just to get this over with - they decide to lift one leg... and Brenda loses it, leaving Andrea who wins Immunity and the clue. (There was talk of them sharing the clue when they were negotiating, I don't know that it still stands with Andrea winning fair and square.)

Enil Edam - Day 31
They return from the challenge and Reynold is feeling sorry for himself, he says this is the perfect time for one of the Favourites to make a move and blindside a power player (but I don't see that happening, and I don't think he really does either.)
-Andrea thought once Reynold fell out Brenda would just let her have immunity but she didn't, proving that she is a big threat to her.  Andrea is really regretting promising to share the note with Brenda (oh, so that was still a thing...) It's the clue that Malcolm had to the hidden immunity idol - and Andrea decides in order not to appear suspicious she's going to share it with her alliance (so much for sharing it with Brenda only huh.)
-They all trek out to the water hole and start digging and Erik is the one to find the idol... and immediately hands it over to Andrea (oh)
-Cochran is thinking great, I can tell Erik when to play the idol and he'll listen... then Erik gives it to Andrea and Cochran's thinking, "Did he learn nothing?"

-Andrea is all flush with idols, wondering if they should blindside someone now before they see it coming.  Blindsides need to happen before they happen to her.
-Andrea is talking to Cochran and Sherri and broaches the subject of who they should get rid of from their own alliance - she is thinking Brenda because of the fight she put up today, and she's really good in the water challenges and then Dawn, (cause she's so gosh darn nice?)
-Cochran finds the shift interesting; how self interest is rearing it's ugly head and people are more worried about winning the end game than the group winning.  He just wonders if the timing is right.
-Andrea also talks to Dawn about blindsiding Brenda, sites her threat in challenges and she hasn't pissed anyone off... Dawn really wants to see Reynold go to ease her mind but she also seems okay with taking Brenda out (but who's going to find your false teeth for you then?)

TRIBAL COUNCIL (#1? It's only 20 minutes in, there must be two Tribals this episode.)
Malcolm looks so pretty with his clean flowing locks :)

So, Eddie & Erik opt out of the challenge early on for food.  (Oh, Phillip didn't like that, apparently only a deep seated childhood trauma should make you opt out of a challenge.) Eddie, being on the outs, what was your rationale?
-Honestly, I knew I wasn't going to be able to stand on that thing for very long so I sacrificed security and self pride for some donuts.
So then Cochran drops out of the challenge then Dawn & Sherri and finally Reynold... why, if it's such a tight group of six, did Brenda & Andrea stay up there for so long?
-Brenda - When do you ever get the chance to test yourself like that?  Not that it was fun, but I'm glad that I got beat as opposed to jumping off.
Reynold, did you see them not making a deal and jumping down as a sign that maybe they are not so tight and maybe there is a chance for me in there somewhere?
-Yeah, I'm a guy that everyone assumes is going home but I could be a great instrument for anyone to use for any moves you want to make.
-Cochran agrees it's timing, the trick is to make a move the second before a move is going to be made against you - and it takes a lot of self awareness to pull off something like that. (Brenda is nodding with a 'heard dat' look on her face... but I don't think she really did.)
Dawn, no matter how comfy you feel, there's always the possibility it's you tonight.
-Always, that's why the longer I play at both sides of something the harder it is to trust because I know I've not been trustworthy at times.
Andrea, what Dawn said is the most honest thing ever said - the paranoia stems from the fact that you know what you're capable of.
-Andrea agrees, you start to think that all these very capable people around you could be flipping at any moment - it only take one person to flip and I'm gone.
Eddie, best thing you can hear. That they are questioning people in their own six?
-Absolutely - blah, blah, blah, maybe I can squeeze in.
Andrea, we're on the cusp of when you start thinking, who do I want left in this game.
-Definitely, Reynold & Eddie, they're backs are against the wall and they are two votes you can use to vote out an Erik, Cochran, Dawn ... or Brenda. (Oh, a little pause before she said Brenda...)
Or Andrea.
-Or Andrea, but not tonight. (She's got a big ol' necklace on to prevent that.)

Time to Vote:
Brenda votes for Reynold and says she thinks things would have gone better for him if he had been a bit more humble in this game. (Ha, masterful understatement there.)

Tallying the Votes:
No one plays a hidden immunity idol.
Erik - 1
Sherri - 1
Reynold - 1
Eddie - 1
Reynold - 2
Eddie - 2
Reynold - 3, 4 - And finally we get rid of the used car salesman - see you buddy!
He's got to make a statement: It's been a blast, can't wait to see what happens. (Just go.)
So with Reynold going that takes Gillian H, Susan M and Lois & Dave L out of the pool.
-Reynold has last remarks but do we really care?  Nope.

Enil Edam - Night 31
They return from voting Reynold out and they are all feeling a huge relief to have him gone (even Eddie since he's still there.)  Andrea is talking about blindsiding someone again - she tells Cochran this may be the time to do it.  She's thinking Brenda (see above) and Dawn because she will turn on anybody at any second (that's a new argument after tribal) - she's thinking B should go first.

-Cochran tells the camera that Survivor is a game of big moves and Andrea is willing to make a big move but once again, it's a move he doesn't agree with.
-He goes and talks to Brenda and Dawn and Dawn says the next target should be Eddie, easy, done.  Cochran says Andrea won't vote for Eddie and she's talking you two right now.
-That gave them a little pause - but Brenda bounces back quickly - Andrea wants her out, she now wants Andrea out.  She says they have to get everyone together and blindside Andrea.
-Cochran is just worried about her having the hidden immunity idol - he says she's one of the last independent thinkers (as they show her lightly scratching Eddie's back... the question is, does he scratch hers?) and that is a dangerous thing.  If she doesn't win the next challenge or play her idol, she may be going home.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE #2
-They will push a buoy through a series of obstacles to a post holding a key, once they have the key they will unlock a chest containing puzzle ladder rungs.  First person to complete their ladder, climb to the top and raise their flag, wins immunity. (No reward)

Off they go and Brenda & Erik are off to a quick start - Erik and Cochran are the first to start on untying the knots to get the key... everyone gets to the post - Erik and Andrea are the first two to the chest but the rest of them trickle over, leaving Cochran the last on his knots.  Andrea and Brenda are doing the best at finding the ladder rungs but everyone starts catching up... Erik finds his groove and he takes the lead again - ERIK wins Immunity!  (That guy needs a cheeseburger, yikes, looks like his belly button is hitting his spine.)

Enil Edam - Day 33
They return from the challenge and Erik says he's learned from his past mistakes, he knows the immunity idol is a safety blanket that will keep him in the game (don't give it up!)
-Andrea is still working the Brenda blindside angle, (threat, nice, yada yada, you get the drill) - she tells Dawn & Cochran this is what she wants, Eddie will vote however she says, and she thinks she'll have Erik and Sherri.  She tells the camera, "this is what I wanted, I talked to everyone and now Brenda's going."  She tells Dawn & Cochran she's going to hold on to the hidden immunity idol in case she feels threatened, she will play it.  But she's pretty confident her ducks are in a row.

-Andrea is talking to Cochran about worst case scenario: If they go to the final three with... Eddie, lets say...
Cochran says: We'd lose.
Andrea: Do you really think so?  I think we'd have a better chance than with Dawn or Brenda (no way!  He's the last standing Fan - Dawn & Brenda have been followers throughout - I'd still vote for Cochran but I think Eddie could get out-last votes.)

-Cochran says he hasn't been able to bring up Eddie's name for the past 10 days without Andrea saying he's harmless, she controls his vote (exactly, you don't want her to have two votes - sheesh.)
-Cochran goes and tells the rest of them that Andrea is talking about Eddie sliding into the final three and they are all convinced she has to be the next to go.
-Cochran tells the camera that Eddie is moving up on Andrea's priority list and Cochran doesn't seem to be on it.  He wants to be on everyone's list.  He admires Andrea for having a plan but, if he's not a part of her plan, then she's not going to be a part of his.

-Cochran talking to Sherri, Dawn & Brenda says as a precaution they could split their votes, in case Andrea does play her idol then Eddie would go home - they are all okay with Eddie going too.
-Brenda knows she's in huge danger but she just has to let it ride.
-Cochran has to once again put his trust in the Ice Cream scooper that gave up his idol [Erik] - Cochran tells Erik the plan to vote Andrea out - and says they may split the vote but he wants to make Andrea feel completely comfortable so she doesn't play the idol.

-Andrea also talks to Erik, the Ice Cream Scooper - tells him the vote is Brenda tonight and she's glad he won - she would like to go to the end with him.
-Now the Ice Cream Scooper has some plans of his own.  Andrea has promised him final 3 and he thinks she means it (yeah, you learned a lot) Cochran hasn't offered him final three.  If they split the vote, he could take out whoever he wants.  Erik feels like he's the one in control (don't let it go to your head!)

TRIBAL COUNCIL #2
Reynold comes in with a ridiculous moustache... where did that come from?

Eddie, you're the last one from outside the group of six, if they want to get rid of you it's easy but they could also make a move tonight and keep you, cause you'll still be in the same spot tomorrow.
-Absolutely, Cochran talks about timing and if it were to happen, tonight would be the perfect time for it.
Brenda, if you don't make a big move tonight, what happens tomorrow?
-Something's gonna happen.  People are going to start lying to each other and doing all the things that come with Survivor.
Sherri, do you believe people are not lying to each other right now?
-Oh, I definitely believe people are lying to each other (uh duh).  She's pretty sure she's been lied to.
Cochran, do you feel you've been lied to?
-Oh absolutely.  Multiple people have told me they want to go to the end with me when they probably don't want to go to the end with me and I've made similar promises that are similarly dishonest.  So I'm just as guilty as a number of people here are.
Andrea, how does Cochran saying that make you feel?
-That makes me nervous.  But she admits she's no different.
What was in the clue you got for Reward?
-Whatever, I have the hidden idol, but everyone knows that.
Cochran, that's huge, having an immunity idol on day 33 with 7 people left.
-Just as big as the necklace Erik has around his neck right now.  You can usually only play it until the final 5 so there are limited chances for her to play it if she chooses to do so.
Andrea, is that the big question? It's a huge advantage if you use it wisely.
-Exactly, if I ever feel paranoid I can just play it - and my paranoia is  pretty high so I could play it and they could be going home.
(Dawn, Cochran and Brenda have "oh crap" looks on their faces.)

And it's time to vote:
Andrea votes for Brenda - tells her the balancing challenge proved she was a threat and needed to go.
Brenda votes for Andrea - says she's a sneaky, sneaky girl, always ready to blindside someone - but I don't think you're ready for this one.

Tallying the Votes:
Anybody playing their hidden immunity idol?
Nope.  (That made Brenda & Cochran smile.)

Brenda - 1
Andrea - 1 (oh, she didn't like that)
Eddie - 1, 2
Andrea - 2 - "WHAT?" Andria shrieks - but she's smiling (to cover the tears?)
Brenda - 2
ANDREA - 3 - That's enough, ANDREA is voted out. "Oh you guys!  That's good.  That's really good."  (Somehow, I don't think she really means that.)

So, with Andrea leaving us unexpectedly (but excellently) that takes Jeremy N., Vikki M. and Donna P. out of the pool. (But it was fun!)

Next week: Brenda is talking about taking out Cochran.  Erik is withering away and needs food.  And surprise visits from home undo Dawn & Sherri (great, another crying episode - ugh.)

Andrea's last thoughts: She was confident about this plan she had cooked up but she should have known when you are the most comfortable is when you get voted out.  She is keeping the hidden immunity idol around her neck as a souvenir to remind her about trusting people too much. (Should remind you not to be so cocky.)

Have a great rest of your week everyone.
